Always a Kat Martin fan, and this was no exception. Crazy quick read that could probably be longer and sell even more. Kat Martin is at her best when she mixes suspense and romance- this has both! Once you read one of her romantic suspense books, you'll want more!

A romantic suspense in Ms. Martin's usual fast paced style with curved balls around many a corner.

When April wakes up in bed with a terrible headache next to a dead colleague after a night she doesn't remember she turns to Jonathon Wolfe from the Maximum Security Agency. As the police follow the dots it appears that April was a victim of an attempted rape which resulted in her killing her attacker in self defense. While this might be the easy way out, April refuses to take the easy way out.

Jonathon is hard pressed to keep April safe when it's clear that someone does not like her continued plan to investigate the events and get at the truth. Of course the attraction between Jonathon and April also heats up during this process giving us a short but excellent story.

April wakes up naked in bed with a dead man and needs help of PI Jonah to get to the bottom of what happen mixed with falling in love. Characters were great and while the prequel was short, it was packed with adventure, deception and sex. Kat Martin knocks it out of the park again.

WAIT UNTIL DARK – Kat Martin

Maximum Security prequel

Romantic Suspense

Dallas, Texas – Present Day

Private Investigator Jonah Wolfe agrees to take on the assignment of proving that April Vale didn’t murder a man. April woke up that morning in bed with her co-worker dead from a shot from her gun—and she doesn’t remember how she got there or what happened. After talking to her, Jonah decides that he believes her, but is he allowing the attraction he feels for her to cloud his judgment? However, once he starts digging into what went on that night and any possible motives, someone in a car tries to run over April. Is there a connection?

WAIT UNTIL DARK is a short story that is a prequel to Kat Martin’s newest romantic suspense series, Maximum Security, about the men of a private investigation agency. The moment Jonah lays his eyes on April, he’s attracted to her, something he has to keep under control in order to not jeopardize his investigation. April works for the mayor of Dallas in his re-election campaign, as did the dead man. There was bad blood between her and the man, but was it enough for her to want him dead? And why can’t she remember what happened?

While WAIT UNTIL DARK is short, a lot is packed into it. We have a car trying to run April down, shots fired, and a couple of sizzling hot love scenes. And of course, the answers to what happened and why. Everything is laid out perfectly, with a couple of twists. As the tempting and enjoyable teaser to a new series, readers will be clamoring for more about the men of Maximum Security.

"Wait Until Dark" is a great way to introduce readers to the "Maximum Security" series. Hot sexy investigator Jonah Wolfe is just the type of guy you want for protection. Add in feisty April Vale, the woman that needs Jonah's protection, and the sparks begin to fly as they fall in love and weave their way to a HEA. Filled with drama, suspense, and mystery, you have a complete novella that has it all. Looking forward to reading more of the series, I would like to thank NetGalley and HQN Books for gifting me "Wait Until Dark". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.5 Stars!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read the first book in Kat Martin's new series. This one is more of a short story about a private security firm. I love the location of the story - I live in the area and I enjoy reading about it. Jonah Wolfe is a private investigator with Maximum Security. April Vale is in trouble. She is an accused of killing her co- worker. But she was drugged. She wants Jonah to find out what really happened. This is an exciting taste of her new series. Looking forward to the next full-length novel.

Wait Until Dark by Kat Martin
Maximum Security Series #0.5 – Prequel

This novella length introduction to a new series presents a few of the members of the team as PI Jonah Wolfe is called on to help April Vale figure out what really happened the night before she found herself in a bloody bed with a deceased colleague. The story is short and easy to read with a fairly predictable plot but worked well enough to interest me in reading the first book in the series when it comes out.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQN for the ARC – This is my honest review.

3-4 Stars

A nice short start to a new series by Kat Martin. Jonah Wolfe and April Vale are both interesting characters. When April is set up to take the blame for a murder she turns to Jonah. The result is an exciting story with enough twists and turns to keep the story interesting while keeping the ending a surprise. Nice start to a new series.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Quick story, the action is fast paced, the characters are fun and enjoyable. It is a novella so it's not very long or in depth, but a good read just the same.

I am a Kat Martin fan and enjoyed Wait Until Dark, the prequel to her new series: Maximum Security. However it just was not long enough. I wanted more scenes and more character development. Don’t get me wrong Kat was able to create plenty of action and chemistry between the characters in this novella. However Jonah deserves a full book.

April wakes up naked in bed with a dead coworker. She is the campaign manager for the mayor. It is not a political book. April hires Jonah because a friend had referred her to him. She wants him to help her figure out what happened. As they start asking questions people want her dead.

There is a lot of action and although it is a short book there is closure and no cliffhangers.
I am really looking forward to this new series.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

April Vale is awoken by the police covered in blood next to the mayors campaign manager. She has been drugged and doesn't remember what happened the night before. She looks for help at Maxium Security. Jonah is a private investigator who help April seeks. Did she kill the mayors campaign manager or was she set up to take the fall. This is the first book that I have read by Kat Martin. It had a little of everything adventure, murder, and romance.

When April Vale wakes up in the bed of one of her co-workers who've been murdered she has no idea how she got there. As the campaign manager for the mayor, she's close with the major players of mayor's campaign team. She's at a loss as to who would try to set her up for this murder.
The police have a theory one that she's not about to accept, she heads over to Maximum Security and meets with P.I. Jonah Wolfe for help. When she meets with Jonah the sparks fly! The closer they get to the truth the more dangerous it gets.
This prequel to Kat Martin's new series "Maximum Security" I can't wait to sink my teeth into the series. It's set in Dallas which makes it more appealing for this reader.

Disclosure: I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me an e-galley of this novella for my honest review. The opinions I posted above are my own regarding this novella.

If you’re in the mood for a good Murder Mystery, a bit of Suspense and definitely Romance then the prequel to the new Maximum Security series, Wait Until Dark will check off all the “need to follow this series” boxes.

April wakes up, or rather comes to, in bed covered in the blood of her very dead co-worker. She has no idea of how she got there as the last thing she has a clear memory of is being in a car with him. Of course, she’s the prime suspect. She’s not going down without a fight and hires Jonah Wolfe of Maximum Security to get to the bottom of who actually is the murderer framing April for their crime.

Wait Until Dark is a fast paced novella that is packed with suspense, tensions, steamy moments, and definitely romance. April is not only being framed for murder but now she is the target of a killer as well. Jonah and April’s relationship, although it comes together quickly due to the length of this novella, is realistic and believable for the circumstances. I was fully engaged in their story, and finding out who wants them dead. I am a reader who enjoys prequels, the setting up of the coming series with a touch of background helps me decide if I’m going to follow the series as well as a good feel for the dynamics of what will be coming. Wait Until Dark did that very well, and now I need to know more so I’ll be picking up The Conspiracy on publication day. If you enjoy intrigue, mystery and really good romances that are believable within the circumstances, then you’ll want to check out this novella that will lead you into what looks like a very good series. I’m definitely wanting to know more… so mission accomplished.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

A breathtaking start to the Maximum Security series!
Murder, chaos and suspense and that was just the beginning. April and Jonah are great characters with a dynamic support cast around them and a well-developed storyline this one was a dream read that I highly recommend.

I don’t know why it has taken me so long to read Kat Martin, but I can say I will definitely be reading a lot more.
