A quick read with lots of chemistry, hot times, suspense, a bad guy to find, and a suck-y ending. They got a HEA, but boom here it is and done.

It's been a while since I've read a Kat Martin. This was the perfect read for a short afternoon. Her books have the right combo of romance and suspense for my taste and this one didn't disappoint. Will have to look for others in this series.

So as an introduction to a new series and only a novella this was always going to be a bit rushed (not a huge fan of short stories) but it was certainly entertaining enough to grab your interest. Although there was not a whole host of secondary (but bound to eventually have their own books in the series) characters introduced it was enough to make me want to read the "first" book in the Maximum Security series

"Wait Until Dark" would have very easily made a fantastic full length book. A little more suspense and a little more romance and it would have been great. As a novella, it ticks all the boxes without fully nailing any of them, but that's okay for me. I accept the limitations of a novella length book and I loved this one and look forward to the new series.

April Vale has been accused of the murder of a coworker. She has no memory of anything after getting into her car with him. Scared and afraid of what really happened she hires Maximum Security's Jonah Wolfe to help her figure this all out. Jonah knows that he is going to have trouble keeping his professional distance from April and that could be trouble.

This is a quick yet highly entertaining introduction to Maximum Security that is filled with danger, mystery, heart pounding action and emotionally thrilling moments..... could not put it down.

Jonah Wolfe is a smart, sexy, strong and determined private investigator for Maximum Security and is more than a little unsure when April Vale storms in to his office looking for help.... she is accused of murder and has no memory of the time in question... Loved the witty banter and exciting twists and turns.

An enjoyable short story by Kat Martin, I enjoyed the premise and action. There was repetitive descriptions and it felt rushed. The blurb indicated it was kicking off a new series but I didn't feel like it introduced the Maximum Security group as a whole. Not her best work but still interesting enough that I'll check out the first novel in the series.

Jeez Louise. Obviously, she didn't do it, people.

The mayoral candidate is already acting corrupt.

Chauffeurs are people too.

Yikes! Thank goodness for defensive driving. Maybe she shouldn't have stirred up the hornet's nest.

Surprise villain.

“Tox screen. Drugs. Her pistol and a dead man.”

In Kat Martin’s novella, Wait Until Dark, the reader is dropped right in the middle of a crime scene. April Vale awakens naked and in bed next to a co-worker who has been shot with her gun. BAM! Got your attention? From there, the story unfolds with her hiring a verra hawt Private Investigator, Jonah Wolfe, with the Maximum Security firm, to help her uncover the truth behind who the murderer is…even it turns out to be her!

This reader looks forward to more stories from this author, and highly recommends this quick faced paced romantic suspense!

An exciting and explosive small package, this story is Intense, gripping, exciting, and more. It totally captivates you into its action-filled pages that are filled with intrigue mystery and some hot sexual vibes. I find the ending a bit rushed but it didn’t detract any of the entertainment from this book, an exciting and entertaining read, I would say this is a must read, it’s short and full of high voltage excitement.

Easy read. Not a great read but easy and uncomplicated. Kat Martin has written many books but this one wont stick with me. It was a short read. I really don't feel like there was much to this book. Want a quick read with no real depth than this is the book. I didn't really know the characters. Overall the book just kind of fell flat. In other words I maybe recommend this book. So three stars on NetGalley but really 2 stars for goodreads because it was ok.

Short story but very fast paced and enjoyable! This is a prequel to Kat Martin's new series. It was definitely short but I liked it. It looks like this is going to be a great series.

Wait Until Dark (Maximum Security #0.5) by Kat Martin This is Jonah Wolfe and April Vale’s love story, the prequel of the new, Maximum Security Series. This is a fast paced murder mystery ... thanks to #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. We have a strong sexy hero and an equally strong female. Their romance is fast moving and steamy... and gets us to a HEA. I am looking forward to this new series.

This is Jonah Wolfe and April Vale’s love story, the prequel of the new, Maximum Security Series, a happily ever after, action filled, love story with sizzle.
This is a well written, very face paced, action romance, with a strong male and female lead. April, a woman on a mission to find the truth despite the danger she faces and Jonah, an investigator, hired to help her. As this is a very short story, the romance and action are fast paced. Kat Martin is a master of action romances and this one is well done considering the brevity of this book; because of the brevity, for me, I rate it closer to 3.5 stars which rounds up to 4 stars.
I look forward to the Maximum Security series.
I received a copy of this story through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

She hires PI Jonah Wolfe to help find the killer and prove her innocence. Now she is on the run from a killer who wants to tie up loose ends. Lots of action, suspense, and romantic chemistry makes this a great read.

Nice introduction to a new series by an author I previously haven't read! Quick paced action, some suspense & romance. I'll have to check out other titles by Kat Martin. Thank you NetGalley!

2* Not very deep, not very suspenseful or exciting. Seemed rushed and too easily resolved.

Pretty much everything I think about this tale is in the title of the review. The romance felt rushed and at the same time, felt like an aside to a not very deep murder-mystery. At the end, I didn't see or believe the leads as a couple, as all they seemed to have in common was to fancy the other as each was attractive, and the murder-mystery to tie them together. I didn't feel an attraction, or see their love, because there wasn't time for anything to develop. TBH, I didn't know either of them and didn't care about them, not even at the end of the tale.

The motives for the murder were shallow and shaky at best, and the possible bad guys were not believable. It feels like everything should have come out in a final wash, but instead, little bits trickled in in drips and drabs and it wasn't satisfying.

I'd recommend this author's historical novels, though. They're hot, sexy and well done.

Wait Until Dark is a short novella written by Kat Martin which is the prequel to her new series, Maximum Security. The heroine April Vale, wakes up in bed next to a dead coworker and has no idea how she got there. The police immediately suspect she is the murderer. She goes to the office of our hero Chase Garrett and asks him for help. She feels she can trust him since good friends recommened him. There is suspense and action and a smooth flowing storyline. This has definitely whet my appetite for Book #1 in the series, The Conspiracy.

April works on the Mayor’s re-election campaign. While out one night with coworkers, she drives her friend home. When she wakes up, she’s naked, covered in blood, and the police are in the room. A date rape drug is found in her system. The police figure David, the dead man, tried to rape her and she shot and killed him. The thing is she remembers nothing after getting in her car. She doesn’t believe that is what happened so she hires a private investigator.
Jonah works for a prestigious security firm and work as a private investigator. As soon as he sees April he knows he’s in trouble because he has a thing for redheads. He takes her case but promises himself that he’ll keep his hands to himself until after the case. First she is almost run downed, then they are shot at after leaving a charity ball. Jonah will do whatever it takes to protect April. Can he keep her alive long enough to see if they have a future?

Very good story. Sexy PI plus beautiful woman equals some hot sex. Plenty of action, suspense and mystery. I will definitely check out the rest of this series.
