I usually love Kat Martin but this story wasn't up to her usual standard. There was plenty of suspense but I found the romance lacking. There was talk of mutual attraction but not much action going on until late in the book.. Then, it seemed rushed

I received a free copy of WAIT UNTIL DARK (Prequel to the Maximum Security Series) by Kat Martin in exchange for an honest review. April Vale wakes up to the police knocking down the door to the bedroom. More disturbing, April is naked, covered in blood, lying next to a murdered coworker, and does not remember how it all happened. April decides she needs help, so she goes to Maximum Security where she engages Jonah Wolfe to find out what really occurred. Despite the need for professionalism between the pair, attraction blazes between the two. Did April kill her coworker? Will April’s insistence that she was not responsible for the death result in hers?
This novella seems to be designed to give background on some of the characters who will appear as series regulars in later books. It was quick, entertaining, and full of action.

Wait Until Dark is a light romantic suspense novella. Quick paced and condensed, the story feels like a lite romance, almost a diet romance. The story is fast paced and a quick read. The action covers much of the plot. April Vale wakes up beside her dead coworker and at first it looks like she killed him. She doesn't believe it and soon finds out she was drugged. The police are trying to pursue the case as self-defense but April's not having it. She hires private eye Jonah Wolfe and his Maximum Security firm to clear her name. Sparks fly between the two and the danger levels ramp up. The story concludes rapidly in a somewhat predictable fashion and ends with a HEA. Overall the story is fairly good just very bare bones. Not my favorite Kat Martin book but a passable way to pass a couple of hours. My voluntary, unbaised review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

I loved this prequel to a new Kat Martin series! April and Jonah had great chemistry and the story was fabulous, but it wasn’t long enough! It could have easily been a full novel. Ah, such is the nature of a novella... I will be anxiously awaiting the first book!

A fascinating prequel to the new “Maximum Security” series by Kat Martin. April Vale wakes up naked and confused as police break in to the apartment. She doesn’t know where she is and next to her is David Dean, a coworker, who is also naked and very dead. April doesn’t remember anything after getting in to her car, the night before, to take a very drunk David to his apartment. After being taken to the police station and tested for drugs, April contacts Jonah Wolfe a private investigator with Maximum Security. April needs to know what happened to her and who killed David. The attraction is immediate between Jonah and April as they investigate who would have wanted David dead. Can Jonah put a hold on his attraction to April in order to keep her safe? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

4.5 Stars!
Wait Until Dark was a fun, quick read with the perfect amount of suspense and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
When April Vale is woken up by the police in bed next to a dead man, April struggles to remember what happened and how she got there. Knowing she needs help, April hires private investigator Jonah Wolfe of Maximum Security to find out what happened and who’s trying to frame her for murder. With several attempts made on her life, April and Jonah are in a race against the clock to find the real killer before it’s too late.
The murder of April’s co-worker provided a great suspense storyline and the investigation into what happened was perfectly paced with just the right amount of action. I liked that April was determined to get to the bottom of the murder even when it became clear everyone wanted her to stop looking into it. The final reveal was well done with several clever twists that resulted in a very satisfying conclusion.
The romance between April and Jonah is well done and never felt rushed despite this book being under 100 pages long. He’s determined to protect her while she’s adamant she won’t hide for the rest of her life. These two complement each other very well and I liked watching the push-pull in their relationship. Their physical relationship had the perfect amount of steaminess and the physical scenes never felt out of place given the situation they were in.
Wait Until Dark was a great introduction to the Maximum Security series and I’m excited to read more from this author in the future. I definitely recommend this novella if you’re in the mood for a quick, satisfying romantic suspense read.

Nothing like waking up naked in bed with a dead man....but that is exactly how this storyline goes for April. She needs the help of PI Jonah to get to the bottom of it and at the same time fall in love. I loved the characters and the story might have been quick but it was jammed packed with adventure, deception and sex. Another great read from Kat Martin.

Full review to be published online in late November.
WAIT UNTIL DARK is a very short prequel novella to Kat Martin’s new “Maximum Security” series. As with all of Martin’s RS stories, there is intrigue and sexy characters. The heroine wakes up naked next to a dead co-worker and doesn't remember what happens. She hires a private investigator and together they figure out the real killer while giving into their attraction to each other. It was a quick, entertaining read that would make a better book if it was longer and fully fleshed out. As it is, it reads like the brief outline for a story. Still a good read for fans, though.

A compact novel with lots of steaming action of different kinds, it's a great introduction to a new series. Good plot, great characters and well written, except too many repetitions of certain details.

Wow, I loved this riveting, fast paced, romantic suspense. April hires Jonah to find out what happened , after she wakes up next to a dead man and is arrested. I am a fan of this author. I have read most of her well crafted series. As with her other books, this book has a fast-paced, riveting storyline with wonderful characters. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and I would definitely recommend this book.

April Vale wakes up naked in bed with a dead man with a bullet hole in his chest. April’s gun was used in the murder. April has no memory of how she got there. She hires Jonah Wolfe to help her figure out what happened. April is determined to get at the truth but someone out there is just as determined to stop her.
This is a prequel to a new series, Maximum Security. It is a novella so it is a fast read. The story moves along at a fast pace. It has action, suspense and romance. I look forward to reading other books in the series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Novella with characters from a previous book plus the forthcoming book Until Midnight. April wakes up in bed with a dead man. Did she kill him?

For a novella this book packed a lot of action, romance and sizzling dialogue. I can't wait to start reading this series. For romantic suspense you can't do better than Ms. Martin.

This is a novella that introduces the reader to the author’s new series about the members of a security company.
This one belongs to investigator Jonah Wolfe and April Vale, a woman that wakes up naked, covered in blood with a naked dead man next to her. After being let go by the police, she goes to Maximum Security to find out what really happened and clear her name.
It’s fill with fast paced action, suspense and of course romance.
For a novella, it was fairly well developed, as well as a good introduction to a new series.
I was entrusted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This prequel makes me anxious for the series to start! This taste of a new series gives the reader an early connection.

I actually read the ARC of book 1 before reading 0.5. This was a good introduction to the new series. Although it was short, I thought the author did a great job of telling a complete mystery.

Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very short novella. Lots of intrigue and hot, sexy characters. The heroine wakes up naked next to a dead co worker and doesn't remember what happens. She hires a private investigator and together they figure out the real killer while giving into their attraction to each other. It was a quick, thrilling read that would make a great novel if it was fully fleshed out.

Wait Until Dark, is a fantastic novella that gets to the point quickly. It has a complete story for such a quick read. Had quite a few wow moments.
