Enjoyable devotional based around Bonhoeffer, treads the usual ground, but would be good as an intro to Bonhoeffer.

An interesting book based around some of the sayings of Bonhoeffer. A martyr to the Nazis in the Holocaust.
I found this book difficult to understand in places but felt it was worth the effort.
I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is a favorite of mine. There’s so much to be learned through the writings/teachings of others. This author takes some quotes that Dietrich has expressed, ties it to a Scripture, and adds his thoughts. It is a 100-devotional book that is separated into 2 categories with more splits underneath those. The first part is about believing as a Christian and the second part is about living it out.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book contains 100 bite-sized introductions to the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Each reading begins with a Scripture passage, followed by a related quote from Bonhoeffer, followed by a few paragraphs of a meditation from McKim. This book, I think, is best for someone who is not an armchair or professional theologian. It's an excellent introduction. For those already deep into the study of theology, it will leave you wanting to read the source material. The organization by topic is very well done, and the quotes are extremely compelling. The Scriptures match well.

This is a lovely little devotional that takes you through the writings of Deitrich Bonhoeffer and what he has to say about various topics in the Christian life. Each day's devotional begins with a quote from him, followed by the author's expounding on said quote and topic, ending with a Scripture verse to look up as a reference. They are simple and brief---perfect to start the day off!

"Faith is trust. It is trust in Jesus, even when He seems to be asleep in the boat. Through all conditions of life---in calm seas or dangerous seas, faith trusts Jesus. It does not rely on its own strength. Faith believes only in God. Faith overcomes fear because God saves those who are perishing. We are people of 'little faith.' But Jesus is with us. He calms our fears. He gives us faith."
(Bonhoeffer, Chapter 13)

I'm a collector of inspiring and influential quotes from a variety of people, and this devotional is LOADED with them. Each one serves as a great reminder of Who we are to live for and why. And they're scattered with tiny historical snippets of Mr Bonhoeffer's life, where he preached at the time of the quotation, and the like.

I would recommend this little devo to anyone familiar, or unfamiliar, with this great teacher of God, and anyone searching for a brief 5-minute something to go along with their quiet time.

This was an interesting glance into Bonhoeffer's life, sermons and writings. I enjoyed the fact that the devotionals are short enough to read several, if you'd like. Also helpful was the fact that they are undated. So, you can pick and choose however you'd like. There are prayers at the end of each devotional, which is helpful for those who like to use prepared prayers or have a specific amount of time to share.

The issue I had was the book seemed to have more from the author, Donald McKim, and his perspective, rather than Bonhoeffer. I felt as though it wasn't quite what I was expecting. However, there is enough information about Bonhoeffer to create an interest in the reader to seek more out.

I appreciate the advanced reader PDF and chose to take this opportunity to review. Thank you #NetGalley, for the chance to read.

I think of this book as breakfast with Bonhoeffer: a taste of the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer with scripture and a concept to digest for the day. If you are not familiar with Bonhoeffer, this work is a good starting point. Reading like a Cliff's Notes devotional of his work, you are introduced to his writing in the midst of great turmoil in Europe before and during WWII. These timeless words are still relevant to the world of today and no doubt for the future.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

I am reviewing a copy of Mornings With Bonhoeffer through Aningdon Press and netgalley:

In Mornings With Bonhoeffer we will get a deeper understanding of his theological beliefs and perspectives, allowing us time to reflect on what his thoughts could mean for Faith and the Christian experience.

This devotional of sorts includes short excerpts and from his sermons, along with daily devotions, these offer timeless reminders of God’s love.

I give Mornings with Bonhoeffer five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

In the beginning of the book, the author tells us that the book will be focused on using quotations of Dietrich’s thoughts and considerations and the these are used to understand how the meanings of his words can be used for the church and our Christian life today.
This book can be used for groups or individuals, and it is organized by having
1. A daily scripture,
2. There is a list questions in the beginning of the first chapter that leads the reader to ask how the reflections can affect our lives today (These questions ask - What has Bonhoeffer said in this passage? How can they affect my life? Am I being called to change my attitudes or actions? How can I put Bonhoeffer’s thoughts into practical use in my life and in my church’s life?
3. Pray that the Holy Spirit will use these words to speak to us.
4. How can our actions show that we are being changed by what we are reflecting on each day?

The first reading is about the Holy Scripture being God’s Word, and how the purpose of the Scripture is to lead us to Jesus, God’s Son.
The Scriptures tell us what God has done in sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross for our sin, so that we can be forgiven and have eternal life.
The second reading give us the precepts of what our faith should be grounded in, why believers hereon earth, and how believers should mirror God on earth by giving glory and honor to Him.

This book is s useful tool for any believer, young or old as it reminds us of what God wants us to do, Who He is, and how to show the world who God is.
