Excellent, photographic introduction to the Thanksgiving holiday. Appealing color photographs along with simple text make this a great picture book for beginning readers. The history of Thanksgiving, how it became a national holiday, customs, turkey, side dishes, pumpkin pie, travel, meals together, outdoor decorations, football and more—it’s all here.

This is a very easy to read, easy to understand book about Thanksgiving. It doesn't go into a great deal of depth, but it's a good basic book.

This is a level 2 reader with a simple vocabulary and short sentences, appropriate for those who are mastering their reading skills. The book is illustrated with photographs of families enjoying the holiday.

The text explains the origin of Thanksgiving and many of the holiday's rituals and customs. This book will help newcomers to the U.S. to learn more about an iconic holiday, while those who already celebrate, will be reminded of why they do so and what they most enjoy about the day.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this seasonal read.

This is a level 2 reader about Thanksgiving and the traditions that go with it. This book is based on the American Thanksgiving, but being Canadian, I still read this to my grandchildren, but just added the information that is different in Canada such as the dates. This is a great book to teach children the basics of Thanksgiving, from the history, decorations, family traditions and of course food. The book is filled with photos to go with the facts rather than illustrations. I loved the crafts shown and the yard decorations. Because this is a level 2 reader, this would be a great book for a beginning reader to read alone or aloud to their family. It would make a great addition to a school library or a class, especially in a unit on celebrations. The publisher, Xist Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays people around the world hear of Americans celebrating (and see in movies and television shows), but it’s not something most of us ever experience.
Told in simple language, this is an excellent introduction to the holiday for younger non-Americans, as well as being a solid reader for children in the US.
As long as parents and teachers take note that the book is (of course!) written with American spelling, Discover Thanksgiving would be a good library addition for children anywhere.

Like most if not all of the books in this series, there’s less drawings and more photographs, in this case full of turkeys and families gathered around the table. From the history to the traditions to the food to the traffic to football, it’s all in here, a lot of stuff considering the few pages.
Parents should be wary of the last photo, or they might find their little ones demanding pumpkin pie.

Teaches kids a very happy and sanitized version of the history of Thanksgiving, as well as Thanksgiving traditions. Not that kids reading this book are old enough for many more nuances, but I found it a bit meh.

This is a level 2 reader about Thanksgiving and the traditions that go with it. Filled with photos to go with the facts and ending with a nice piece of pumpkin pie. This is a great book to teach children the basics of Thanksgiving. I really like the Pilgrim and Indian toilet tissue people and it gave me an idea for my Granddaughter for a Thanksgiving centerpiece, that she can contribute to our table. I really like the Discover books (this is the second one I have read) as they are light reading but fun.
