A multi generation book about a family filled with secrets. Just when you think you have all the details there is another turn. Between the ill Grandmother, Rebelous granddaughter and estranged sisters there is definitely enough drama To keep you entertained. I’m interested in other books by this author.

I really enjoyed this family drama. The plot is believable and well- paced. It is both poignant and heartwarming as the estranged sisters care for their mother and come to terms with their past.

This book, this book is about the journey that your life ends up being, when it doesn’t go as you planned. How the woman that you are, the women that are around you, the people who love you, are as fragile and as strong as you are. Love, and need to be loved, as much as you do. Have the same pain, the same hopelessness, the same despair, and share it all with you. They may know why, they may not know why, but they are connected to you. You care about them, and they care about you, and the moments make the relationships, good and bad. The women in your life, they will be there for you, you just need to let them in. The men in your life, they are unique, and deserve to be judged on their own merit. And the good ones, they are worthy of your love, and love you too. Every sister, every mother, every daughter, makes mistakes, but it is never too late to talk about them. It is never too late to heal and be whole

This book, this story, is as dark and murky as the great lake it is set on, and it is just as powerful and profound. It had been engrossed in it from the beginning, and I was invested in the outcome with every word, each viewpoint, and it did not disappoint

The McAvoy Family Sisters Book of Secrets is a well done women's fiction novel that focuses on family--which I know sounds oh so familiar but it's a rich, rewarding read with thoughtful, well-developed characters. I really enjoyed this and thought the ending was particularly solid, which is such a bonus as a lot of books in this genre tend to rush toward/wrap up too fast. I'll definitely be talking this one up to fans of light but thoughtful family books.

I am just a sucker for a good family story. This book is about how families can pull apart from one another, and what it takes to come back to one another again. It's about family secrets and lies, and how the very thing that destroys a family unit, can actually be what ties them together again. I loved Lindy and Delia, and learning about their stories. It was just light enough to be a great lead in for summer reading, but heavy enough to add quality substance to the reading experience. I I recommend it to those who enjoy reading by the pool or at the beach, (pina colada in hand)

I’m a big fan of Fader. This book almost read like a different author it was written with a different voice. I enjoyed the book but it was a bit downbeat. The McAvoy family has a lot of secrets and the revealing of those secrets takes much of the book. I didn’t love any of the characters. They are good people dealing with a whole lot of current issues and eventually the secrets that have torn their family apart.

The book is well written and realistically takes on issues everyone can relate to.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This novel focuses on two sisters who are at odds and their struggles in taking care of their ailing mother. Forgiveness prevails. The ending is great

I really enjoyed this multigenerational story of the McAvoy sisters and their family. The relationship they had, how it was damaged, and how they came back together is engrossing and kept me interested until the last page. Delia and her sister Lindy have to come back together to deal with their mother's stroke and Alzheimer's even though they haven't had a relationship in 17 years. The tragedy of the past and weight of secrets have been toxic to all the family members over the years. How they choose to confront their issues and resolve them make this an outstanding read.

This is a family story and I LOVE A FAMILY STORY! I think part of it is being nosy – I am so curious about how other people do regular life things. In this family, Lindy the wild sister, left home at seventeen and never looked back. Her sister, Delia, stayed in their small Pennsylvania town to run the family business, take care of her aging mother, and raise her family. The problem is that this isn’t how it was supposed to be. Lindy always wanted to run the family business and Delia wanted to explore the world, go to college, and follow her teaching passion. Out of the blue, Lindy receives a phone call from the chief of police and comes home immediately. Both sisters are unsure about how to rebuild their relationship, become friends again, and best take care of their mother and the family business. Small town characters and history all have a part in Lindy and Delia’s attempt at reconciliation. I really liked this window in to the relationships of the McAvoy women. **Thank you to NetGalley. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

This was my first book by Molly Fader and I look forward to reading more from her in the future. I was attracted to this book for the "sister" aspect and it did not disappoint. The book is woven with love and loss and at the heart of it, family. I think the characters were beautifully developed and likable- which is not always the case! I was surprised by the ending and I would love to see a sequel to this book!!! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

This novel has all the elements that, for me, create a great women’s lit book. There is tension among characters, a lurking past covered by family secrets, and many erroneous assumptions. There is consistency in the relationships and in their unfolding troubles.
It is a very well executed novel and I hope to see more of its kind from Ms. Fader.

The McAvoy Sister is a book about secrets (obviously) but it's also about trust, finding yourself, and how 3 generations of McAvoy women are badass!

I wasn't sure what if I would like this book, as it's a step away from my years of living in the romance world, and while this does have a little bit of romance, this book is more a women's fiction, which is a bit of a new genre for me.

So let's start with the matriarch of the McAvoy family; Meredith, after losing her husband at sea in a terrible storm, she still has two daughters to raise and needs time to grieve. Fast forward to present day, and 6 months after a stroke, Meredith is still struggling, especially with her memory, and after getting lost in confusion, and picked up by the chief of police (and thankfully family friend) Garrett Singh, she asks him to call her prodigal daughter Lindy to come home.

Delia McAvoy is struggling with life, a husband, a new daughter, a teenager, a disabled mother and the guilt and pain of the past, especially when it comes to her sister, that she kicked out of all of their lives, but that all comes to a head then Lyndi comes home, and Delia has to deal with the past.

Lindy McAvoy was the black sheep of the family! After leaving in the middle of the night 17 years ago without saying goodbye, got the shock of her life firstly when Garrett Singh called her, and then secondly when she found out her mother had a stroke 3 weeks before, and her sister never bothered to call her! But Lindy knew she would be opening a can of worms up by coming home, but her mother needed her, and after having her ex rain her clothes down onto the sidewalk, Lindy headed for home.

Brian is the teenage daughter of Delia, she is the kid that was immediately ignored by her mother when the new baby arrived unless she did something bad! And well hell! Bad attention is better than no attention at all right!?

So we venture into the small Pennsylvanian town of Port Loraine, and into the lives of a family that is deeply hurt by things from the past, but can they let it go before it destroys their future too!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
I love relationship stories, especially between mothers & daughters & sisters. This was a wonderful story with just enough secrets to keep me turning the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, from Lindy & then police Chief to her sister Delia & Brin, but especially loved Merideth the mother, who you just knew was the toughest and feistiest.
Wonderful read, highly recommended!

It took me a bit to warm up to this women’s fiction novel, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Lindy left home abruptly seventeen years ago and has been estranged from her sister Delia, ever since. Which also means she hasn’t gotten to know her niece, Brin. When Lindy gets the call that her mother has had “a brain incident,” she returns to her small Pennsylvania hometown.

She’s quick to bond with Brin, a sixteen-year-old who has been acting out since her brand-new baby sister arrived on the scene. Other relationships are much harder to mend because of the secrets they’ve been keeping for all these years. As the secrets are revealed, healing becomes possible.

Thanks to NetGalley and Graydon House for the opportunity to review this book, which RELEASES JULY 16, 2019.

This one is fun and meaningful women's fiction. I am a sucker for books about the relationships between sisters, especially. I loved the characters and their relationship, with all of its foibles. As a woman of 40, I can relate to the sisters and their struggles with their mom's progressive illness. I highly recommend!

Wow...This book was so good! Don't be fooled by the "chick lit" cover, there is some real heft to this beautiful novel. Two sisters, Delia and Lindy, have been estranged for years. Delia, the oldest sister, has stayed in their hometown, and continued the family business. Delia is married to her high school sweetheart Dan, and they have two daughters, a 17 year old, and an infant. Since the birth of the infant, Delia has struggled to feel like herself. She feels burdened by continuing the legacy of the family business (a fish chartering business and shop) and has now had to start taking care of their mother, who just recently had a stroke and suffers dementia as a result. Meanwhile, Lindy moved away from home years ago, and is completely unaware of her sister's struggles, and most importantly, totally unaware of her mother's stroke and new memory problems. She has her own problems, with a history of meaningless relationships and a string of jobs as a bartender.

One night, their mother manages to get out of the house and wanders away to an abandoned mansion, and is found by the police chief, who unknowingly calls not Delia, but Lindy, setting into motion Lindy's return home. Upon her return, Lindy finds that her sister is struggling to hold it all together. Delia's 17 year old daughter Brin has her own issues and is rebelling against her mother, especially since the arrival of the new baby. Delia's marriage is also struggling due to her mood changes and stress level. Lindy takes over taking care of their mother, and the two sisters work to repair their relationship. But for them all to move on and heal, something that happened 18 years ago must be acknowledged, and then, confronted, by all three of them.

This book stands as both literary fiction about the relationships between these four women and what it takes to heal relationships after years of estrangement, but it also has elements of mystery. Why were they estranged in the first place? What happened to their father? Why is their mother obsessed with the abandoned mansion on the ocean? Why does Brin feel like her parents are hiding something from her?

The bottom line is I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone and everyone who appreciates a solid family story well told, with characters that felt like real people, with real problems, that I wanted to see happy at the end. Just read this book!

Recommend this to your readers who enjoy mother/daughter/sister stories with some drama, but not too heavy. Think Elin Hillenbrand, Sarah Morgan, and Susan Mallory. Not really for those who want some sassiness or humor from the main characters. Very good read, with beautiful Ohio setting.

The McAvoy Sisters Book of Secrets by author Molly Fader is a wonderful story about how facing and revealing family secrets can often help to heal broken hearts and relationships.

This was my first read of author Molly Fader and I'm excited to see what other books she has written. This book was all about family, love, loss, and growth over time. I really liked all of the characters in the book and I was shocked by the ending. I could have never guessed the "secret" or why the sisters were not friends anymore. Beautifully written story and I would love to know how their lives continue on.
