This story is filled with angst, love, trauma, and newly found secrets. Ultimately, redeemed love, and redemption of a broken family is the main focus. It’s told through the views of Meredith, the mother, and three sisters, two grown with lives of their own, and one a teenager.

The sisters are estranged at the beginning, and harbor a lot of hurt and anger. The family resentment is palpable when they are all brought together due to the need to care of their ill mother. Though this family is imperfect, as most families are, the effort of forgiveness and eventual open communication, brings hope for this broken family. This book is not an easy read at times, however, there are some sweet and light moments. But, there’s also some very disturbing parts of this story that may be a trigger for some readers, such as rape, and dementia issues.

All in all, The McAvoy Sisters Book of Secrets is a well written, and fulfilling read.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Great book of reconnecting with family, forgiveness, laughs, love and caring for family when it’s needed the most. I highly recommend this great read.

This was a wonderful story about family secrets, growing apart and coming back together. The story is told through four different family members; the mother, Meredith, the two adult daughters, Delia and Lindy, and Brin, Delia’s daughter. I could relate to all of the characters and their beautiful, yet imperfect bonds with each other. It definitely made me wish I had a sister or daughter to share this story with.

After seventeen years of staying away, Lindy comes home after finding out her mother needs some extra care. This stirs up old memories, good and bad and ultimately helps the family to heal from the past. The events of the past aren’t completely clear from the beginning and are pieced together as you read along.

I received this advanced copy from NetGalley and Graydon House Books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. This book will be published July 16, 2019

I enjoy reading books about sisters and family relationships. This one kept my attention, but it did seem to drag on a bit with the same thing over and over when I think it could've been done a little more succinctly. Overall, it was a good read about 2 sisters who have mostly been estranged for 17 years. It also is told from the POV from their mother, and Delia's teen daughter, Brin. It has a bit of a plot twist at the end so it ended on a good note.

It was hard to put down this novel about family, missed opportunities, truth and lies. Lindy left town abruptly, as Delia went on creating a life with her husband, teenage daughter, new baby and her Mom. Brin wants to understand why her aunt left so suddenly, but her Mom seems to have secrets that run deep. Lindy returns after her Mom has a stroke and the old hurts, lives and secrets reappear for the McAvoy family, as Lindy and Delia try to repair their relationship. Some surprises await in this well written novel. Thanks to Netgalley for the galley.

I honestly thought this book was just about a dysfunctional family - two sisters who were close through their childhood, and teen, sharing secrets always supporting one another, but never sharing their innermost thoughts.
,Their mother who was the mainstay of the family after their father died has ' a brain event'. But since Lindy had left town amid hard feelings, Delia never called to say their mother needed help. Lindy returns home and stays with her mother, Everyone has their problems, and their resentments that continue to build until a climax that I sure didn't see coming. This book kept me going long after my bed time. I thought the book ws aone of the best I have read lately.

Delia and Lindy have been, for all intents and purposes, estranged for nearly twenty years, but now their ailing mother brings them back together. The two sisters realize how much they need each other and work on a way to mend their broken relationship, but their past gets in the way and the only way they can go forward is to face what really happened all those years before. Anyone who has a sister (I have 3), will be able to relate to this book. They can be your best friend or your worst enemy, but underneath it all, they are still your family
