Another great addition to the “My Favorite” series. Appealing, color photographs along with simple text make for a fun read for beginners. What child doesn’t like animal photographs—especially small animals? Where do ponies live? How do they play? What do they eat? This series includes “Do You Remember?” questions throughout the book. These questions are based on facts just told/pictured on previous pages. Answers appear in the back, along with a glossary. Ponies grazing in fields, friendly ponies, feeding ponies, and riding ponies—it’s all here. Five stars.

Victoria Marcos has written many books in the "My Favorite Animal" series, and is now writing "My Favorite Pet" series. These books follow a similar make up. There are some great facts and wonderful photographs of Ponies to illustrate the information. This book teaches children about caring for ponies, what they enjoy eating, and where they live. There are also some fun and easy quizzes to review and reinforce what was read. This is a fun series for very young readers, and the layout is interesting, with questions throughout for readers to discuss with adults. A good non-fiction book for young readers and listeners to learn about ponies. The relatively easy and repetitive text makes this a great reader for beginning readers to develop their confidence. The back of the book has a table of contents and glossary to assist children in the reading and understanding of the book. This would make a nice addition to class and school libraries. The publisher, Xist Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions are my own.

Made for the preschoolers, this little book features large photos and some info about ponies. . . but you know that from the title, right?
There’s some incredibly simple quizzes, but then this isn’t supposed to be challenging, just informative, as is the small glossary.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5

This little reader, part of a larger series with pet themes, is a solid one. It has some more complex language than some of the others I’ve read, and works to reinforce new words by using them in multiple sections of the book.

As always, international parents and teachers need to be aware this book is in American English (if the alternate spelling of “favourite” doesn’t give that away!). For example, children will learn that ponies live on a “ranch” – not a term used in other countries.

Even so, this is a solid reader – just make sure to get it as a paperback for a better reading experience.
