This was not an unputdownable, edge-of-your-seat, “can’t go to sleep till finished” type of book, but it was enjoyable and it was worth definitely worth the read. All in all, a solid read if not life altering. But do we always need those? Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this ARC opportunity !

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had an undercurrent of tension throughout the book. I hate the use of the word "twists" when reviewers talk about books as a reader can keep waiting for the "twists" and be bitterly disappointed when it doesn't meet expectations so I won't mention "twists". This book is unpredictable (always a good thing) and moves at pace. The reader can empathise with the poor mother and her sense of helplessness. Worth buying and reading.

A great story with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing which you come to expect with a K L Slater book.

I’m catching up on the books I’ve missed from K L Slater.
I have to say this was a slow burn at the start but when it got its momentum it surely took off....

There are plenty of reviews that give out the gist of this story and whose who so I’m not adding to it incase you haven’t managed to read it yet.

My advice with any thriller type read, go into it blind. It’s much more enjoyable.

I’ve not read any of my bookish friends reviews until now AFTER I’ve read it.

The story is light to follow, then the intensity with the daughter gives you a lot of concern.

Every Mom worries about their children yet when you have perfect reason to, it’s intensified.

The ending was fab.
I say 3.75 stars rounded up to 4 for the ending.

Closer by KL Slater is a domestic tale with unlikeable characters. Several twists and turns and enough to keep fans of this genre entertained.

I love this author's writing and Closer certainly didn't disappoint. The tension builds slowly in this psychological thriller, and keeps on going until the end reveals everything in a shocking climax.. Brilliant character development as always and expert use of red herrings which keep you guessing. Highly recommended.

I would recommend this story to all thriller lovers .This book took me by surprise. It kept me interested throughout the story and I needed to see what was going to happen. I truly enjoyed the pacing of the story and the well written characters.

K.L. Slater is one of my favorite authors! Despite some opinions of the cliffhanger ending, I always love how masterfully this author draws you in to her story but doesn’t always guarantee it will be a happily ever after ending! Well done!

The Closer is a book written by K L Slater, a writer Whose books I have enjoyed Previously. I really thought I was reading a s riot for a lifetime movie. While the plot is great the ending left a lot to be desired. I have to say that I probably would not even call this a psychological thriller but rather a woman scorned or a family drama. I was really surprised that the writing seemed different than her other books. The problem is that when I finished I was left hanging. Without giving the ending away, I just want to say that I was very disappointed. Everything else was great though. So I would give this a 3 out of 5.

Thank you to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.;

Look at me being all smug through most of the book, thinking that I knew what was going on.

I had a lot of trouble putting this book down so I could work today.

Thanks to the author, the publisher, and netgalley for a copy of the ARC.

Oooh I was so looking forward to reading this following all the rave reviews, however, I didn’t enjoy it. I feel it definitely wasn’t a psychological thriller, more of a family drama dealing with a lot of serious issues, and the anorexic issue was covered too much for my taste. The ending was a bit of an eye roller and left you hang'ing.

Closer starts off on the slow side for me and then picked up speed. There is some good tension here in the story that had me turning the pages and I read this one quite fast. I do enjoy K.L Slater's writing. A little high on drama, especially the teen drama and I might have turned those pages a little quicker than the others.

I recommend for an easy and fun read that will keep you entertained while keeping you guessing. Warning, there might be some drama eye-rolling going on!

I've gone on a real "must read/listen to everything written by K.L Slater" at the moment. I travel 2-3 hours for work daily so I've been listening to the stories and I'm just hooked.

I’m a real fan of this author now as well. It a was a story that really resonated with me as I’ve got a daughter the same age and she’s been experiencing the nastiness that girls can give. So my heart broke into a million pieces for poor maisy 😢 I have to give the author kudos too because the twist I didn’t see coming at all! What the hell was that ending. I’m still trying to decided whether I liked it or not because it sure as heck shocked me 🤭

I await the next story!

Emma and Shaun split but still love their daughter Maisie. Shaun meets somebody new who turns out to be Emma's boss Joanne! This causes issues in itself but when Piper who is the same age as Maisie is so awful to her and accuses her of bullying her and takes her friends away - Maisie starts to withdraw - Emma is desperate to find out what's going on. The writing is so good that you can feel your heart breaking for Maisie and how she must feel that her happy secure life and good relationship with her father all goes wrong. The ending was a unexpected, as with all of K L Slater books I enjoyed this one too.

A thrilling read which kept me turning the pages, characters you care for and just brilliantly written. Great novel!!

I received a copy of this from #netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book starts with a glimpse into someone's past - but it is unclear who! It is apparent early on that Joanne has a secret past and is hiding something, but it takes a long time for it to be revealed to the reader. For the duration of the book we are left wondering if Emma's concerns are justified or not.

This book was fairly slow initially, setting the scene for the main action of the story to happen. I did expect it to be faster paced than it was. That said it was an enjoyable story, and that ending certainly packed a punch! My jaw dropped 3 chapters from the end!! I will definitely read more work by this author in the future.

I love this authors books and have read every one before this one and this one didn’t disappoint!

Basically Emma and Shaun have split up but still live together as they’ve got a 10yr old daughter Maisie.

But then Shaun meets a woman allied Joanne and it all goes out the window from then on, Joanne is Emma’s boss for a start and has a daughter the same age as Maisie called Piper (who isn’t very pleasant really)

Poor Maisie hates Joanne and piper and Emma believes that Joanne is far from innocent and seems quite sinister really, Emma thinks Joanne has plenty of skeletons in the cupboard, or is she just jealous? I couldn’t stand Joanne or Piper and really felt for Emma.

It’s a great book and I whizzed through it as per usual and can’t wait for the next one!
