I'd like to thank Netgalley and Andrews McMeel for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

This book is so adorably wholesome. I'd seen some of the art uncredited on social media so I'm thrilled to know who did it.

The book is very sweet and motivational and just wants the reader to be happy.

There is an index at the end where you can find entries for things like "joy" and motivational penguin"

Loading Penguin Hugs is a collection of one-page uplifting and positive comics by Jacqueline Chen, aka Chibird. Published by Andrews McMeel, with an expected release date 13th Nov 2018, it's 88 pages and available in hardcover format.

The style is extremely sweet and naive (see cover). Reading the book in one sitting admittedly felt a little saccharine by the end, however these would be perfect for one-a-day positive notes to read before bed or even have a bedtime feel good minute with your kids. I could also imagine these in single doses in a classroom setting or frankly whenever one needs a little boost.

In a world where every.single.second of news coverage feels like a fresh knell of doom, these little glimpses of positivity and kindness are truly a breath of fresh air. I loved all of them and I have to say the hedgehogs and manatee comics made me *squee* a little bit :)

Four stars, lovely and sweet!

I’ve been following Chibird on Instagram for over a year now and I LOVE her comics! I was so excited for her when I found out she was coming out with a book! Thanks for Netgalley for giving me an early peek at this wonderful book.

Jaqueline Chen’s book is so cute and heartwarming, good for anyone who is having a bad day. The cute animals and sweet messages are wonderful pick-me-ups. I recommend this to anyone.

Loading Penguin Hugs is one of those monumentally adorable books that you can’t help but love. It’s not very long and contains just a small collection of motivational comics to help you get through a hard day. Ironically, I’d seen some of these comics around the internet before and didn’t even realize that there was a book collection of them about to come out. Chalk full of exceptionally cute illustrations with truly uplifting commentaries, readers can find themselves relating to and feeling good about the message Loading Penguin Hugs gives.

It’s an extremely light read and doesn’t really delve too deeply into any one subject, though I did deeply appreciate the one comic regarding the level of energy required to go out. It’s a quick read that will likely only be picked up in brief moments and forgotten about more often than not. It almost feels easier to have a screenshot of the most uplifting comic already available online than to have a physical copy of the book, however the appeal comes from being able to hold the wonderful artwork in your hands.

I’d definitely say buying this book is a great way to support the artist, though I personally don’t know how much it offers the typical reader. Very much geared toward those who feel down about themselves, this collection is a nice read but is also something that can be pretty easy to find online. While I did enjoy it, I don’t particularity find that this is the sort of book I’d buy. Still, if you’re looking to have some adorable lift me ups on your shelf, this is definitely a book worth getting.

Very cute book, and loaded with a lot of positive vibes. Can be a very fast read or a very slow one depending on what speaks to you. Thought the illustrations were very balanced and not overwhelming the message.

Absolutely as adorable and inspiring as expected. Although I am not usually a person to search out positive affirmations like the ones here, I just cannot resist the adorableness of the drawings--especially the penguin! Each page has a doodle with an adorable animal or human friend wishing you positivity, encouragement, or a word of advice. They provide your daily dose of cuteness *and* inspiration, and it's the best. I'm not sure how many of these have already been published online and how many are new to the book, but if you love these little comics, or know a friend who would, it's the perfect addition to your bookshelf.
