A very nice sampler of items made with different stiches. I'm looking forward to trying Tunisian Crochet!

I loved this book! I was able to make the pineapple scarf pattern and it turned out beautifully. There were many more projects in here that I loved, so this book will definitely be added to my collection! The photos are beautiful. Charts were included, which help tremendously when doing lace patterns. A great addition for any crocheters library!

Delicate Crochet: 23 Light and Pretty Designs for Shawls, Tops and More by Sharon Hernes Silverman
Light, airy pieces crocheted in fine yarns show off the beauty of your crochet stitches and are a dream to wear! The shawls, cardigans, tops, and other designs in this collection are light as a feather, super soft, and made to drape beautifully across your body. These lacy pieces are fun to crochet and very versatile. Change up the yarns to create looks for day or night, work or play, city or suburbs. Pattern contributors include Kristin Omdahl, Robyn Chachula, Marty Miller, Amy Solovay, Vashti Braha, and others known for their innovative, gorgeous crochet designs. Each of the 23 patterns includes full written instructions and charts as needed. All special stitches are fully explained and skill levels range from easy to advanced.

Delicate Crochet is a well written collection of patterns, and the special stitches are well explained. I liked some of the patterns very much; the Flirt Cardigan, Lacy Sleeveless Cardigan, and Lotus Wrap were my favorites. I also liked some of the lace stitches and borders that were used elsewhere. The beadwork in the necklace pattern and the Tunisian crochet are skills that might be new to many, and are not something I have yet mastered- however only because I have not invested the time into the process. I also have to say that a lace or open crochet stitch skirt is something I never thought to make or wear, even to wear with leggings, except if one were wearing it more as a wrap or something with a dress or pants. So, at least one of the patterns was a hard no for me.

However, none of the patterns rally struck me as completely new or fresh. For crocheters that do not have access to resources like Ravelry this might be worth the investment, but for most crafters I would recommend visiting the local library to borrow this book to learn a few new stitches and try their hand at some of the patterns.

There’s wraps, shawls, scarves, gloves, and sweater/cardigans in this one. Along with a necklace design. There are 23 designs to choose from. I enjoyed the names of each item. In just their titles, it drew me in. Each pattern told me what level it was rated and all the supplies I needed to have to accomplish that design. I would say these are in the lace family of looks. I think my favorite designs from this book are the Palmy Cardigan and the Lacy Sleeveless Cardigan.

This is a nice addition to the crochet library. Instructions are clear, and the combination of written direction and pictorials should leave little room for error. The best aspects of this book are the number of lightweight designs and the number of Tunisian pieces. My favorite project is the New Wave Cowl, a new Tunisian design. I found it to be very attractive and wearable.

So light and delicate, these shawls and tops are so pretty with their eyelets, picots, etc. As a knitter, I recognize the skill needed for these designs, but the patterns are well explained, with many for the less experienced knitter. Gorgeous for spring and summer wear.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Stackpole Books for my unbiased opinion of the book. I loved this book!!! I made the cardigan designed by Robyn Chachula and scarf designed by Sharon Silverman. I appreciated all the detailed instructions and pictures. This is a great reference book for gifts for special family and friends in your life. I will be using it for years to come.

Lacy crochet patterns, nicely illustrated, but no charts were included in the advanced reader's copy I reviewed, despite the inclusion of a section on how to read charts. i would have liked to see more daring patterns, rather than the standard crochet pattern types, but the inclusion of Tunisian crochet makes the book stand out.

I was lucky to receive a copy of Delicate Crochet: 23 Light and Pretty Designs for Shawls, Tops and More. This pattern book is gorgeous. The creations are beautiful. There are 23 patterns here from 11 designers so there is a nice variety. The patterns range in skill levels from advanced beginner to the advanced crocheter. I’d say most of these patterns are more on the challenging side, but that is a good thing. The techniques and the yarns used give the pieces a delicate, sophisticated look. I love experimenting with stitches and yarn because the possibilities are endless.

One of my favorite patterns is the Yveline Wrap made with the Tunisian stitch. Frills are added on top of the Tunisian stitches for a finishing touch, I love that idea. Tunisian is one of my favorite techniques and I would love to make this one day.

The patterns seem clear and easy to follow, there are plenty of photos for reference and help as you go. There are cardigan patterns, finger-less gloves, shawls, vests and cowl patterns all using beautiful stitches and techniques that are a little more on the advanced side.

At the end of the book there is a techniques section explaining the different stitches from single through triple crochet. Also, there is a guide to color changing and adding new yarn and a section explaining Tunisian crochet as well as blocking. There is a section on how to read the patterns and symbols as well, all with photos for reference.

Delicate Crochet: 23 Light and Pretty Designs for Shawls, Tops and More is a beautiful pattern book to add to your collection or to give as a gift to the intermediate-advanced crocheter in your life.

This is such a beautiful collection of contemporary crochet patterns. Not for the complete beginner, but not explicitly for the experienced, either. Wonderfully photographed with written instructions to follow. I am so excited to complete each of these projects!

I received this book in exchange for a honest review from NetGalley.

Overall I thought that this book was hastily put together and had far too many errors for even a review copy. Many of the the patterns were borderline unreadable. I made one of the items and it came out fine but I was very glad that I had a good deal of experience with crochet and could read the patterns despite the issues with the formatting. The items themselves are interesting and from some big name designers and that is awesome. I really liked that the patterns used fairly interesting and on trend yarn. I hope the final copy is much better edited.

Crochet can be many things. All of which are beautiful, useful, warm and cozy. It is art made with a crochet hook and usually yarn. When I think of crochet I think of warm blankets, hats and mittens. I have crocheted each of these items over my years of enjoying the art of crocheting.
Delicate Crochet has introduced me to a whole new kind of crochet. Light, lacey, feminine crochet that is delicate and elegant. Of course I have seen the lace doilies my grandma made with cotton thread. They are beautiful and I have many of them she made over the years. But I have never seen shawls, scarves and other garments made of soft, lightweight yarns.
In Elegant Crochet, eleven designers created lace crochet patterns using traditional crochet stitches that any experienced crocheter would have no problem following at home. The projects vary from wraps to mitts to a Tunisian crochet cardigan. Each of them has detailed instructions, with charts as needed. There are full color pictures that highlight each project.
If you feel more comfortable working with patterns that remind you more of traditional crochet, the v-neck cardigan may be your first choice. It is created with openwork motifs (read beautifully lacy granny squares) and raglan sleeves. This is the perfect take along project with beautiful results.
At the end of the book, basic crochet techniques are spelled out completely with accompanying pictures. That being said, as comprehensive as they are, this book is not filled with patterns that are for beginners. But I you are ambitious and have never picked up a crochet hook in your life but feel you want to start on a delicately beautiful shawl or sweater, I will not be the one to rain on your parade – go for it. Conversely, experienced crochet crafters might be challenged by some of the patterns but all of them are so beautiful, they are worth the time and effort to use a lusciously soft and delicate yarn instead of sturdier worsted so often called for in crochet patterns.
As soon as the dust settles from the holidays, I plan to start making the Iced Silver Fox Sweater designed by Kristin Omdahl. It is worked with a size F hook and features a delicate diamond motif on the front and back. It is meant to be worn over a solid top or turtleneck that will showcase each stitch.
Delicate Crochet is a book that will give you many patterns to choose from. Accept the challenge that might put you out of your comfort zone but will expand your crochet skills. Either way, this is a great book to have in your library as well as the perfect gift for the crocheters on your list.

Many thanks to Netgallet, F&W Media, and Sharon Hernes Silverman for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advanced copy.

Delicate Crochet contains 23 patterns from 11 designers, focusing its designs on light and airy, and uses no yarn heavier than lightweight (#3). In the introduction, Silverman states that she assumes everyone using this book already knows the basics and at most might just need a refresher. The patterns range from easy to experienced, with some using Tunisian Crochet. There are some illustrated instructions in the back, with some attention being paid to the Tunisian technique. The patterns themselves are written out with charts and diagrams as needed. The illustrations of the patterns are okay, but nothing too inspiring. They mostly show off the design, but this is one area that could have been improved. Almost half of the patterns are wraps, shawls, scarves, rounded out with some cardigans, vests, tees, and one of each a skirt, gloves, and necklace thrown in for variety.

There are some heavyweight designers like Vicky Chan and Robyn Chachula just to name a few. Some of the patterns are cute, but overall I found it standard fare for what you see with crochet. There are some I would want to make, but I’m not sure if it would be enough for me to pick up and buy if I came across it in a store. As with any pattern book, it is how they fit that counts the most.

It is worth checking it out and if the patterns speak to you - happy crochet-ing!

Delicate Crochet uses a lightweight yarn (#3 or below) to create almost a lace effect in the twenty-three projects described.

The projects include four cardigans, two pullover sweaters, one vest, one poncho, one summer top, one skirt, one necklace and a pair of fingerless gloves. There are also four wraps, three shawls, one cowl, and three scarves. All have extensive pictures and schematics of both the size and the stitches used to make the garment. Sizes extend from extra-small to extra-large depending on the pattern. The techniques vary from regular crochet to broomstick lace to Tunisian crochet.

If you like to crochet, Delicate Crochet is perfect. It has new ideas for how to modernize the crochet look to be more polished. It has excellent instructions and illustrations. 4 stars!

Delicate Crochet is a new tutorial crochet guide collected by Sharon Hernes Silverman. Due out 1st Dec 2018 from Rowman & Littlefield, it's 176 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats. This book includes 23 crochet designs from numerous designers, collected by Ms. Silverman, which include apparel and accessories designed to showcase the openwork patterns of the crochet. The book includes several patterns worked with tunisian and broomstick lace. There's also a project included which uses the crocheted fabric as a ground for further embellishment, guaranteed to serve as a good jumping off point for really making the item one's own.

The breadth of patterns included impressed me. There are structured garments (including a cardigan) as well as very loose and flowing wraps (see cover illustration). Each project tutorial chapter includes both written pattern instructions as well as drawn diagrams. The projects are well photographed and each one includes yarn suggestions and materials. There is a wealth of inspiration for gift ideas as well as must-haves for the crafter.

There are any number of luscious variegated yarns out now and many of these projects utilize those yarns with wonderful results. This is a book with a fair bit of 'ooh' factor. There were several projects which definitely went on my list.

I didn't complete any of the projects, but I did do several swatch tests and found the pattern diagrams easy to follow and mistake free. The recommended yarn weights seem appropriate. Delicate crochet also includes a few patterns for the more adventurous crafter.. I am not entirely sure about crocheting a skirt (at least not for myself), but there's one included here.

Many of the designs showcase crochet fabric's natural draping tendencies to an impressive degree. The Ziggy Vest designed by Vashti Braha is a really lovely project with a surprising amount of structure and detail.

Beautiful photographs with well-written patterns that are easy to follow. Unlike some needlework books, this one includes patterns for items that are practical and attractive to wear. This will be a great addition to our crafting section.

This is an aptly named book. Most of the items are delicate and also beautiful. There is a good variety including scarves, wraps, sweaters, even a necklace. The patterns see clear and there are many photos illustrating the steps. At the back there is an extensive reference section with more photos of the stitches used. This would be a great book for those who tend toward the more victorian or boho styles.

This collection includes shawls, cardigans, scarves, cowls, fingerless gloves, and more. All designs are made with lightweight #3 yarn or lighter, and some designs utilize Tunisian crochet. Lots of great patterns for the advanced crochet crafter.
