20 absolutely stunning designs with easy enough to follow instructions for even the most basic of beginners. Some very cool origami and that goes beyond the basic one can usually find online.

Origami skills elude me. I have the hardest time making the patterns work, following the right steps...but I keep trying to learn. When I do, this is one of the books I want to be able to use. To recreate these remarkable designs.
Check it out!

During a recent family event that included 8 teenagers, the weather was so bad everyone was stuck inside. What could have been a disaster turned into a wonderful memory when I pulled out the origami supplies and let the teenagers fold to their hearts content. I have several origami books but they all voted this one their favorite. The detailed instructions with photos and the patterns designed to interest across the ages made them all happy. We even managed to make two of the panda bears. What a great day made so much better with this great book. Thank you.

Some beautiful designs in this book - it does assume a certain degree of skill in the craft, definitely not for absolute beginners!

This was such a fun book to review, my daughter’s and I have had a ton of fun making animals. Some of the items like Santa was very hard for my 10 and 12 year old, and I even found it hard to finish not just santa but a few others too. I do like a a good challenge form time to time so looking forward to trying all the items in this book. There are a total of 20 items to make with 150 pages, electronic book says 164, but there are 150 pages. Here are a few pictures of what to expect .

Extraordinary Origami is a new anthology of advanced origami designs edited by Marc Kirschenbaum. Released 9th Oct 2018 by Fox Chapel publishing, it's 160 pages and available in paperback format.

There are a phenomenal number of origami books out there. Sometimes it's difficult to winnow out the truly useful from the bewildering array available. This book distinguishes itself by providing 20 moderately challenging sculptures as well as providing code links to video step by step tutorials. All of the pieces are well made and appealing. There's something in the collection which will appeal to even the most jaded origamist.

The tutorials themselves also run the gamut from more traditional animals (see cover), a bee, and a frog, to really whimsical tongue in cheek sculptures including a dog in his doghouse and a mounted dragon head (my favorite in the book).

The book does begin with an introduction to folds and diagrams. The intro is followed by the 20 designs from current and past origami masters from North America. There's a nice short bio section at the end of the book covering all the contributors.

Definitely a good addition to the origamist's library. The photography is crisp and clear and supports the tutorials well.

Five stars

I loved the panda on the cover of this book it looks much more 3D than origami usually looks, almost like a sculpture. This was an advanced publication copy from NetGalley so I was viewing it with an iPad. So not all the functions were working on my copy. However the published item will have QR coding to link to YouTube videos to help create some beautiful animals. Not sure what kind of paper was used but it makes everything look like it is made out of thick leather! There are a number of American Masters of origami who have contributed to this book and I will be checking out their websites.
Since first writing this review I have discovered that the book is not fully functional on the kindle app. However, once I had loaded to E editions I could view the book as it will look as published. My comments above been edited to reflect this and raised it to five stars.

Extraordinary Origami presents 20 models by a star-studded roster of origami artists. The designs cover a range of subjects (in contrast to the single-topic books of recent years), and I found it appealing to have a more wide-ranging book for experienced folders. The diagrams are clear and well presented, with attractive photos of the completed models. Links are given to video folding demonstrations for added guidance. The models are traditional, square-sheet, no-cutting designs, and they employ both sides of the paper to good effect. If anything, there is a little too much reliance on two-color paper (the red-winged blackbird and the cardinal, for example, are spectacular, but just wouldn't look as good with white-backed paper. I look forward to adding this book to my collection and folding almost all of these models.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a digital advance review copy.

Anyone who loves or is interested in origami would adore this book.
I love the fact that it started off with the basic folds so someone who is not a master in origami like me could have insights on the basics. There are also links to videos on youtube which made this an enjoyable and practical read, however, I am inclined to say that my first attempt at creating a frog was a complete fail. I'll keep practicing.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.

What a fun collection of origami creations! Step by step illustrated instructions are given, however each design includes a link for video instruction as well (both written link and QR code provided) which is helpful for those of us with less origami experience. With multiple contributing origami artists, there is a nice range of designs. The panda featured on the cover is adorable, but there are so many fun designs, from a card with a pair of swans to a dog in a doghouse and so much more. Some designs are more intricate, requiring more skill and time, but there are some simpler designs as well.

Thank you to Marc Kirschenbaum, Fox Chapel Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this fun collection. All comments are my own, unbiased opinion.

This stunning book is for the more experienced of paper folders. The instructions are clear and stepped, but doesn’t contain individual photographs of the folds. I actually found that much easier, but some may see it as a challenge.
