i really enjoyed getting to explore mera’s story further—she’s one of my favorite characters and i find that too often in film adaptations the female characters who are very much strong in their own right and deserving of having their story told, are used as a plot device to further the narrative of the central male character / first lead and it’s tiring to have to continually be lead to believe we will get to see our favorite characters be represented and explored further in new ways only to be deeply disappointed yet again. not here in mera: tidebreaker by the amazingly talented danielle paige (dorothy must die). the artwork by stephen byrne is absolutely stunning, the colors vibrant and soothing, and i honestly never wanted this to end. the target audience is 9-19 so it’s definitely geared toward that age group, but i love that mg/ya kids will have this to read and enjoy because it’s such a fun time. definitely recommend to the kids in your life !!!

This was a hot mess. Plot was ridiculous with no real character building. I found this entire book to be absurd - some which is certainly because I've never read/watched anything from DC related to the ocean based heros and the physics etc are hilariously dumb. But also the story boarding and writing here are just bad. The art is fine.

To preface, I don't really care about superhero things; I don't watch Marvel or DC movies or typically read their comic books. The art style is gorgeous-that is usually the first thing that will catch my eye. The story is for middle-grade, or YA so I'm also not the intended audience for such a book.

This focuses on Mera, sea princess (I guess?), who is coming of age during a time of unrest in Atlantis-ruled by her father. We don't really get much information on the ongoing war except the King has ordered troops to kill Arthur (Aquaman). It's a bit farfetched that Mera happens to find Arthur by happenstance when he doesn't really know who he is, or his heritage. Plus there is also the instalove, which I'm not a fan of, but it is skewed toward a younger audience.

Overall, not bad but does not entice me to read more in the series or explore the lore of those characters.

It was hard to follow the story as it was presented in a disjointed manner. I still enjoy her work but this did not work for me.

I liked that this is a YA DC comic, and I love mermaids. The art work is nice. The problems I ran into are along the lines of Mera is from Xeble. Her people HATE those from Atlantis. Arthur is going to be the king of Atlantis, so Mera is going to kill him. Issue, in just two tiny short days, she's instantly in love and what? How is that even possible? I was a bit put off by the speed of this insta-love. It didn't go over well with her intended, Larken, either.

The art work was really, really good, and I did like the story over all. I just kind of wished for a bit more depth, even in a YA which is a genre I read a good bit of YA. I am glad they are trying though.

I've not read many comic books, but I quite enjoyed reading this one! It was a quick read and quite enjoyable, especially for younger audiences.

An intriguing story of Mera and her experiences with unique, beautiful, and appealing art. This story will appeal to young Aquaman fans and graphic-novel fans not familiar with the Aquaman comics or movie.

Geared towards a younger audience, Mera: Tidebreaker is a sort of fun story of Mera finding her place but then essentially boils down to how she meets and falls in love with Arthur. I had gone in with the expectation that it was Mera on her own, and while it started off that way, she soon becomes part of Arthur's story instead he becoming a part of hers. It's disappointing that this book is touted as a story of Mera's strength and heroism, but it's another love story. Those are good when you're looking for it, but I had just finished the Green Lantern Legacy book and there was no romance in that book. Mera is more than just her relationship with Aquaman, but this book doesn't cater to that. On the other hand, the art is just beautiful and brings a unique look.

I've been struggling to review this one because I wanted to love it, but I did not. However, my students did. The book spent plenty of time out on loan its popularity spread through their word of mouth.

Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige is a graphic novel that tells the story of Mera. She is such a strong heroine and I enjoyed the story. The art is great. Would recommend.

I’ll admit I kinda loved it just because of The Aquaman movie. Loved seeing this side of it. The artwork was gorgeous.

I was never able to get this to open on my kindle or on the suggested app it told me. I did however end up buying it. This graphic novel was a really quick read and a simple story behind the Xebel and Atlantians. I love how Mera stands up for herself even though it's for the wrong reason, when she finally met up with Arthur she learns that not all Atlantians are bad.

The coloring was amazing and art compelling, but I was not a fan of this graphic novel being so romance heavy. I wanted to see more of Mera being in charge and being a badass.

I got approved to read this book a day before it came out, and then it was archived. Therefore, I was unable to read it and am unable to review it.

What a cute story! I loved the characters. The story was enjoyable. The character development wasn't bad, but I felt as though it could've been better. Overall, I wasn't disappointed.

I absolutely adored this book! I loved the pictures of it and everything! It was a cute story about being enemies and then end up falling in. Shows you how strong love really can be!

Despite some pacing issues and a tendency to tell rather than show, this original graphic novel is a fine introduction to Mera, a fierce warrior and fascinatingly conflicted character who all too often takes a backseat to her more famous underwater superhero counterpart. Mera is a complex heroine who deserves top billing, and it's a pleasure to see DC Ink give her the spotlight with this YA origin story.

Danielle Paige did a wonderful job with this book! She did a good job showing us the perspective of Princess Mera as a teenager, even though she is different than the character I am used to. I enjoyed that she was a little different than in some of the graphic novels I have read with her in it. Also, I love that she is the main character, and getting the spotlight like she deserves! She is a strong and bad-ass female character. The book is a little simple, since it is for kids, but it was a quick read. The art was great too. A recommended read for sure!

Mera is a great addition to the DC universe. I am impressed by the quality and effort that has been put into this title, and indeed the whole line of graphic in this series. This title is a great way to introduce this character to a new generation of DC readers.
