This psychological thriller will keep you guessing until the end. The story evolves around Meghan who is constantly exhausted and has symptoms that seem to defy diagnosis from various doctors. Her mother Becky is understandably worried about her, and uses her charm to get the doctors to try and help Meghan. Her husband Carl is always by her side, but thinks that she is becoming obsessed with trying to find a cure and that there may be underlying issues to cause her persistence.

Then Meghan takes a turn for the worse and is hospitalized. But staff slowly realise that Meghan is in excrusiating pain when she is around her mother.

One minute you think you have solved the mystery and then you turn your attention to another person in the book. This story flows so well that you just have to read to the end

This book is really creepy and not in a good way. The women are all evil and the men are all good, big surprise the author is mail. None of it makes any sense in the realm of human emotions. I was disturbed as a mother and a mental health worker. And I really love disturbing stories about psychopaths. But this was too much. I literally felt my skin crawl off my body. And not in a good way

Meghan is increasingly ill, with symptoms all over the board and no-one can give her mother, Becky the answers she so desperately seeks to see her become better. Meanwhile, her husband, Carl, constantly blames her behaviors on her own upbringing in a household with a mother who was a malingerer and who used that to get services and aid that she would not otherwise qualify for. Sometimes, Becky herself even questions what is real and what she is imagining! But when Meghan gets an appointment with Dr. Zach Fisher, whose own son died of a rare mitochondrial disease, he sees many resemblances in Meghan's symptoms to his child and begins fighting to save her. Unfortunately, one of the referrals he makes is to Dr. Amanda Nash.......her father's lover.......and a fierce competitor for taking over the hospital entirely. What follows is a horrific look at what may happen when a hospital reinforces the need to protect their patients (rightly so or not) and the incredibly bravery of a mother who knows that her daughter must be saved before it is too late. Tense and thrilling.

Becky Gerard is obviously an unstable, depressed woman. Her marriage is on the rocks, she lost her young son to SIDS and she’s convinced her 15-year-old daughter has some strange undiagnosed disease. She’s an open and shut case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. As you listen to Becky’s thoughts, how she rambles on with no set focus, you begin to wonder if her daughter will survive her mother’s constant barrage of testing and disciplined care; if her young son’s death really was due to SIDS, and just how much will her sweet and hunky husband Carl be able to stand before taking Meghan away from Becky, saving her from a slow and painful death at the hands of her own mother.
And Meghan, such a sweet and innocent young lady who only wants to please her mother, really can’t describe her symptoms, only that they’re very unpredictable and suddenly painful. And they often seem to occur when she’s around her mom. The only thing she can attribute any discomfort to is the painful secret she’s harboring against her dad.
So wait. Is sweet and hunky Carl doing something to harm his daughter? He sure loves to catch the eye of other women, especially the drop-dead gorgeous doctor he’s recommended for Meghan’s care.
Just when you’re sure you’ve got this plot pegged and you decide to keep reading just out of curiosity, Bam! Another twist you never saw coming. So you keep reading and keep questioning. One minute the answer is so obvious, but the next, you’re back at peg one. D.J. Palmer has done it to you again.
This is an enjoyable quick paced read with lots of twists and turns!

This was one of those books that magnetically draws you into the story from the very beginning. Becky Gerard is a mom who wants to take care of her ill daughter. Meghan is a fifteen year-old who just wants to be able to do her regular activities again, but she is hampered by mysterious symptoms that take her to the hospital frequently. Carl Gerard is the father who wants what’s best for Meghan, but he isn’t convinced that she is genuinely ill. The doctors are persuaded that something is wrong but they are not sure whether the symptoms are real or not since they have yet to come up with a diagnosis. The illness may be psychological, and the fact that the illness itself is a mystery drew me into the story so that I could discover what is really wrong with Meghan. There are few characters and all are very well-developed so that I knew that I didn’’t really know whom I could trust not to be lying. At several points in my reading, I was thinking that everyone was lying, with different levels of deception. This is a book written in such a way that it kept me reading and guessing all the way to the end.

This book revolves around a normal high school age girl who for no apparent reason starts having debilitating symptoms for no apparent reason and with no apparent diagnosis. Her mother, having lost an infant to SIDS many years prior is determined to find out what is wrong with her only child and will go to any length and see any specialist to make her better while her father believes that it is her mother who is making her sick (also known as Munchausen by proxy). As the book moves along DCF becomes involved, the doctors she has seen all have differing opinions and Meghan is keeping a secret involving her father’s betrayal. I think this book went on a little too long with regards to all the medical issues and could easily have been shortened quite a bit. There are a couple of twists but the last two chapters wrap it up nicely with a tell-all. Overall I felt this book was mediocre-therefore I only gave it 3 stars.

Becky Gerard, mother of 15 year old Meghan, is a liar and manipulator, something she learned to be as a very young child, when her mother made her lie and manipulate doctors so her mother could get disability payments. That life haunted Becky, living with a mother whose only effort was put into cheating doctors and the government for money. Now 48, Becky wants to tell her mother how she feels about the way her mom brought her up, but also wants to tell her she forgives her, even if she's not sure she really does forgive her. But even as her mother is on her deathbed, Becky can't be there because she's afraid to leave her very ill daughter, whose health problems can't be diagnosed by any doctor.

I did not like Becky, with her manipulative, pushy, ways and felt so sorry for her daughter Meghan while at the same time, wondering whether Meghan was really sick or not. Becky is sure that Meghan has something horribly wrong with her but from experience in my own life, I couldn't help thinking that Becky either wanted Meghan to be sick and/or was making Meghan sick, whether Meghan knew it or not. The book touches on a lot of things that are disturbing when parents go up against doctors, hospitals, and the government, in an effort to help their children. At the same time, I know that mental illness can cause a parent to inflict illness, real or not, on their child, for reasons we don't always understand.

So many angles and twists get introduced that despite not liking Becky at all, I felt bad about it at times because she loves her daughter so much and will do anything for her. Secrets, omissions, and lies make up the family dynamics of this family of three, Becky, her husband Carl, and their daughter Meghan as Carl doubts that Meghan is really sick and thinks that Becky is "making" Meghan sick by putting ideas in her head. I found this to be an interesting book. The story was good and the characters were well-defined. I just couldn't decide whether I liked them or not. The twists and turns kept me turning the pages as I realized the story was better with the characters as they were - whether liked or not. I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Saving Meghan was really just ok for me. I didn’t like any of the characters and this book just dragged honestly. I started skimming about 50% threw just to get to the end. Sounded good but the Author just didn’t deliver in my opinion.

I was emailed a link to access this book through NetGalley, and while the blurb appealed to me, the book didn’t really deliver.

Becky’s daughter Meghan is sick. With what, no one knows, but Meghan can no longer play soccer, suffers from fatigue and exhaustion, cannot exert herself without risk of passing out, and now misses a lot of school. At 15, doctors can’t figure out what the problem is. When Meghan gets a potential diagnosis but suffers unusual symptoms, she is referred to a new doctor who comes up with a new explanation: it is Becky’s fault. Meghan’s illness is actually Becky’s: Munchausen by proxy. This suspected diagnosis then throws Meghan’s life into complete chaos.

I spent a lot of this book not very invested in the characters. Becky frustrated me, her husband Carl didn’t seem like a good guy, and even Meghan left me feeling so-so. I don’t know exactly what it was, but I wasn’t very invested in any of the characters.

The storyline had a lot of potential with the Munchausen direction, but the author did a 180 toward the end and turned a decent medical novel into an unpredictable thriller, which really just didn’t do it for me.

I didn’t hate this book, but I definitely didn’t love it.

I do enjoy a good medical thriller (I have read many by Michael Palmer). This book by DJ Palmer was good and kept me reading too long into the night! The storyline about a family, where the daughter is ill without a known diagnosis, started off a bit slow, but then came the twists. I liked the characters and rooted for them throughout. All praise being said, I could not give five stars as it was a bit predictable. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

Saving Meghan by D.J. Palmer

Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for an advance ebook.

Wow what a ride, this story of 15 yo Meghan whom her mother Becky takes her to Dr after Dr with no diagnosis. Is the Mother really sick or is Meghan? I found this book hard to put down, interesting, and suspenseful. A lot of twists. The plot is very fast paced. The mother is very obsessed with finding what's wrong with her daughter. The Mother, Father, and daughter all seem to be hiding something, you just don't know who to believe. Finally the mother takes Meghan to see Dr Fisher and all hell breaks loose. About 3/4 through the book I figured out who the bad person was, but this book added more twists that you don't see coming. I highly recommend this book. I would read more by D. J. Palmer.

Wow! This was a great read-complex, well-crafted and riveting. A story about a family with tragedy in it’s past and the distinct possibility of more to come. Instead of a police procedural this is a bit of a medical procedural and seems to be very factual in that regard. I was drawn into the various characters lives and emotions and couldn’t stop reading. Thanks to #netgalley for the advance reading copy of this ebook.

This book is one of those that just grabs you and doesn’t let up, until you finish. It’s not only disturbing, chilling, and thrilling, but intense and one that is hard to put down, because you must know what is going to happen! Twists and turns galore and an ending that will shock you!
I will be highly recommending in Chapter Chatter Pub!

Saving Meghan is about a family that has already gone through tragedy and is now facing it once again.
Meghan is a young teen that has many health concerns but the doctors just can't seem to pinpoint what exactly is wrong with her. Her young life consists of doctor's appointments and a myriad of tests all showing inconclusive evidence of anything in particular. Her health issues are beginning to cause a riff in her parent's marriage. Her father accusing her mother of being the root cause of Meghan's failing health and her mother accusing the father of not caring enough to find an answer.
If you thing that is all there is to the book, think again. What we are led to believe in the narrative is just the surface. There is so much more to this book. Although I found it to a bit of a drag in the beginning, it quickly changes in a very surprising way
. You will never see the end coming. For me it was a total shocker!

I tore through this book in one day. It hooked me in and had to see it through until the end. Was it Munchausen syndrome by proxy? Was it something else? I needed to know!

I don't want to give too much away but it definitely has some twists and turns that I did not see coming.

Will definitely look for future works from this author.

Wow. What a riveting, intense read. This book latched onto me and wouldn't let me go until I finished every action-packed word. So happy my first read of the year was so good! Maunchausens by proxy is rarely a topic Ive seen discussed in public let alone written about. I was kept guessing the entire book. Throughout the book, I was questioning everything. Was mom the one who was inventing illness in her daughter or perhaps provoking her behavior? Or was daughter acting sick to seek her mother's full attention and love? Who's to blame for Meghan's illness? You'll have to read this awesome book to find out.
