Author Catherine McKenzie knocks it out of the park with this novel! This one takes place at a campground for kids and teens, and a crime that took place there years ago. It played on all of my fears about what can go wrong while camping! McKenzie's cast of characters are delicious like campfire smores! You will not be disappointed!

I’ll never tell by Catherine McKenzie is a gripping thriller that had me reading well into the night to finish it. I have NEVER read a book in one setting before that had me so enthralled in this family’s story. It starts with the death of a daughter/sibling and as time goes on, 20 yrs to be exact, there never was an ending. There was a dead body found on a boat in the lake on the family’s land and it almost destroyed the whole family except those with secrets to keep. Once their parents die the siblings must come together to sit at the reading of the will. What they hear shocks them all. They all have different plans on what to do with the homestead however, until the murder of their sister is solved no one can do anything with it. This should be made into a movie. I would recommend this title to everyone who loves this genre.

Thank you to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book for my honest review.

This was a good whodunit that had you convinced you knew the culprit. However, all of a sudden, there is a great twist so that your thought was not necessarily accurate. I love reading a book that has me trying to figure out who is guilty as I flip through the pages. All of the family secrets were a pleasure to discover. And I LOVE books with short chapters! It makes the reading so quick.

As many people have suggested, this is an Agatha Christie style book. And that is the ultimate of compliments. The camp setting, the secrets, the lies, the family dynamics…they combine to make this an enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Thank you to Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a good solid mystery, the story kept my interest throughout, though the majority of the characters were really just not very likeable. However, the story was engaging, even though I eventually figured out who was responsible before it was revealed.
All in all a good read

Twisted and intriguing story where a family is determined to know the truth of events that occurred years ago, a condition set by the death of their father for their children to receive their inheritance. Different argument, with an unimagined ending.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of I'll Never Tell by Catherine Mckenzie.

The MacCallister family has been running a summer camp called Camp Macaw for years and years. But now that the heads of the family have passed, all of the grown MacCallister children have conflicting ideas as to whether or not the camp will continue on.

But that seems of little importance when the will is read, and it is determined that one of the children will not get their portion of the inheritance. Mr MacCallister went to his grave suspecting that one of his children was once involved in sinister activity, and beyond the grave, his is forcing everyone to suspect each other.

Strong beginning! I loved the jumping timelines and foreboding shadows. The author did a good job giving each member of the family their own distinctive personality, and I ADORE getting to be a fly on the wall into other families, especially when the children are adults. There were several times that I felt it could have been abridged, but overall it was a great summer (camp) read.

After their parents’ sudden deaths, the MacAllister siblings return to camp Macaw that their parents owned to read the will and decide what to do with the prime real estate it occupies. Ryan needs to sell. Margaux hasn’t made up her mind. Mary believes in leaving well enough alone. Kate and Liddie—the twins—have opposing views. And Sean Booth, the groundskeeper, just hopes he still has a home when all is said and done.

But it’s more complicated than a simple vote. The will stipulates that until they unravel the mystery of what happened to Amanda, they can’t settle the estate. Twenty years ago, she was found bludgeoned in a rowboat at the MacAllister family’s Camp.No one was ever charged with the crime. Any one of them could have done it, and each one is holding a piece of the puzzle. Will they work together to finally discover the truth, or will their secrets finally tear the family apart?

This book had a lot of twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.

I really enjoyed this book. The character development was written in a well thought out way. The reader only knew what they needed to at each moment to keep the suspense of the book alive! The book touches on a bit of everything from secrets, a bit of romance, the complexity of relationships and the responsibility of being part of a family. Fun read perfect for pool side, beach and anywhere!

This is an okay mystery. It goes back and forth from present day to about 20 years in the past. A young woman was injured at a summer camp years before and it is unclear which of several people are responsible. The characters are okay and the jump between periods is handled fairly well. I just didn't like it that much and I have loved other books by this author.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

First, you should know that I am a sucker for a book set at camp. I don’t know why. I never went to camp (too many mosquitoes, too much nature) but I love the creepy/sinister vibe a camp story generally has.

So did I LOVE I’ll Never Tell?

What I Liked:

The cover. Creep-tastic!

The camp setting. I love that they all returned to the scene of the crime. Plus camp setting are just crazy fun for books.

The family. Each family member had secrets- which worked to up the mystery level.

Bottom line: This was my first Catherine McKenzie book. I did enjoy much of I’ll Never Tell- there were bits that didn’t work so much for me- but overall, an enjoyable read.

20 years ago a girl died at a family camp. Since then, the parents who ran the camp have died and forced the kids to gather and try to solve the crime.

Told from multiple points of view of the five children and a the caretaker of the camp, I thought it was interesting and somewhat dark.

What happened to Amanda? Twenty years ago, someone attacked her and left her for dead at the McAllister’s summer camp. Now, the five siblings must gather to listen to the reading of their parents’ will after their unexpected deaths. Together they must determine what happened to Amanda to ensure an equitable split of the property. What comes out during this weekend is an unusual amount of secrets and lies.

With so many twists and shocking events, this thriller kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. I could not figure out who done it until the very end and it was even surprising then at why they did it! One of the best mysteries I’ve read in quite some time. The was my first read of Catherine McKenzie's and I will definitely be reading more. Highly recommend this book if you need an intriguing read!

The McCallister family owns a summer camp in Canada and several years ago something nefarious happened to a camper while on an overnight camping trip. Now that all the McCallister kids are grown, they decide to come back to the camp to figure out what really happened. This recent novel of Catherine McKenzie's had me turning the pages right up until the end. I wanted to know the truth, who killed Amanda and how exactly did she die? This novel takes you to Camp Macaw in the present day and 20 years prior. As someone who has been to sleepaway camp (and spent summers at a day camp as well - similar atmosphere without the sleeping part) I was able to relate to the camp scenes, which I enjoyed reading about and reminiscing about my past experiences. The McAllister family who runs the camp, have their 5 children come together at present day to figure out their parents estate and have a decision to make regarding the camp future. No one ever knew what happened to Amanda Holmes who was found dead in a rowboat. The truth about this accident (or murder?) is how the family needs to decide if they keep the camp, sell the camp and if they sell, do all 5 children receive to profits from the sale or does one of them get left out due to their involvement in the death of Amanda? The story is pieced together and it kept me flipping the pages curious as to what happened next. Their secrets come to light and the twists and turns in this story were great. I recommend this novel.
