The cover for Playing the Dutiful Wife is what first drew me to it. Manga is very new to me, I’ve read one before many years ago, but I was so intrigued and curious with this book that I wanted to take a chance on it. Since it has been a long time since I’ve read manga, this was a new experience for me and I enjoyed it.

Playing the Dutiful Wife was surprising at times and not at all in others. It had that kind of dramatic, over-the-top plots and twists that you’d expect, but it brought out my emotions regardless and it left me feeling satisfied after I finished reading. I liked Playing the Dutiful Wife and I will read manga again.

I simply adore these Harlequin Manga comics. It doesn't even matter what the story is, I tend to love them all. The beautiful illustrations bring the stories to life for me and while they are short and an abbreviated version of the story, I find them satisfying nonetheless because I love seeing the illustrated depictions of the scenes and the characters. This one is another winner. And I apologise in advance that a few of my reviews are similar but really, I just love them all.

Oh so cliché as a story but we'll written and I loved the art. It was incredibly cutesy and I really enjoyed it

Cute romance. The characters were layered which made for an exciting read. The family drama was real. The betrayal was intriguing. Definitely makes me want to read the actual novel.

Thanks to netgalley and the publis for the free e-book

This was a pretty good read. If you're looking for a light read that is a standalone story and quick paced. I am used to manga that covers several books so they usually build the story up over time, so this was a bit different from my norm. The characters meet on a plane, fall in love and get married and the story takes off from there I can't say anymore without spoiling the story. It wasn't my usual kind of romance but it was fun and a good pick me up for a different pace or a break from my heavier reading.

I am going, to be honest with this. I wasn't a huge fan of this manga. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. it was very meh to me. I have never been a big romance reader, so I am not sure why I picked this book up but I can't say I completely wasted my time.
I will say though this manga moved way to fast. I was very confused at parts and all in all I felt it was really rushed. Take a bit more time and give us a few more pages so we can get all the info.
The art style was ok, it had an older feel to it.

Title: Playing the Dutiful Wife

Author: Takako Hashimoto (Illustrator) & Carol Marinelli

Genre: Manga

Rating: *****

Review: In the opening of Playing the Dutiful Wife we are introduced to Meg, an innocent and cautious woman, finds herself seated next to handsome millionaire Niklas on an airplane. Meg has a huge fear of flying alone and when Niklas is seated next to her she is grateful for the distraction and eventually they begin talking and find that they are attracted to one another.

As being rerouted to Las Vegas the pair ends up getting married but Niklas leave her the following day playing it all off as a joke. A year later Meg is found by Niklas’ lawyers and they tell her he is in prison for fraud but is innocent and she is the only person that can visit him. Everything goes to plan but Meg is adamant not to get emotionally involved with him again.

However, after his release he learns Meg lied to him as she was never paid for visiting him, in fact, she refused the money and came because she cared. He manages to track her down in his hometown in Brazil, in the orphanage where he grew up. However, this turns out to be Niklas’ twin brother who he was separated from when they were young, and he is shot by the man who framed Niklas.

While his brother dies from his injuries Niklas is fine and he and Meg start their relationship over. One thing that really stood out to me is that by the end of the story Meg has completely gotten over her fear of flying thanks to Niklas.

This plot was terrible. Quickly told but missed time in presenting time plots so there were so many holes that were quickly filled at the end.

I loved the drama in this! Full of lust and passion and the consequences that follow! The illustrations are the icing on this cake because they just enhance the storyline and make it like a silent black and white movie!

Pretty good manga story that made m intrigued into reading the original story!
Meg is an innocent girl that for sure is a shiny character there. She meets Niklas on the plane and they get fast married (read: next day!) and what will happen after that? He changes of course! Why is that?
Her life became sour. Innocence burned once can be a disaster... And what are Niklas layers doing there? Find it out n this manga.
Full of secrets and emotions that will give you a cry and a laugh due to this read. Good manga adaptation.

I find the manga version of some old Harlequin old romance novel, the best way to go back in time a remember my adolescence when I thought that love was what they were talking about :)

Penso che queste versioni manga dei vecchi romanzi d'amore Harmony, siamo il modo perfetto per tornare indietro nel tempo alla mia adolescenza, quando pensavo davvero che l'amore fosse quello.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

Meg is a very nervous flyer. She meets Niklas on a flight to LA and they get talking. They have only just met and canoodling on the plane leads to a rushed wedding in Las Vegas when their plane is diverted. They have one night together and the next day Niklas tells Meg it is over (not that it ever really began). One year later Meg is asked to help Niklas who is in trouble back in Brazil so Meg agrees to help.

Obviously it all ends well, with a nice HEA. This was a nice unrealistic story because who would really marry a stranger after sitting next to him on the plane?

Great artwork and an entertaining improbable romance, but dont try this at home!

If I don't take this book seriously, it's falls into the ridiculously fun and bizarre. Something you should read with a friend for a laugh. But if I am forced to take this book seriously, then it's .... well ... bad. So bad it's good? Nope. Just bad. At least it's short.

Story: 1 star
Character Development: 1 star
Art: 3 stars
Bonus ridiculousness: 5 stars

I had been interested in this kind of book, but though it seemed well out together and the illustrations are very good, it is just not my thing.

Meg is flipping out on the plane, and although Niklas is a little rude at the beginning, he warms up to her. They even get married the day after meeting, however, after the wedding night, Niklas does a 180 and tells Meg its over. Great premise and very entertaining.
I am a huge fan of manga, especially romantic manga. My only complaint is that it is a little short. I go through them quickly, but regardless of the length it is very lovely.

Review to come to all sources mentioned on my profile, tomorrow.

I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

The 5th and final Harlequin Manga I requested at Netgalley, I have tried stretching out reading them, but I still devoured them. Hopefully a new batch will make its way to Netgalley. *crosses fingers*

Meet Meg, a simplistic girl who, after having a hot dude next to her in the airplane, get married to him so they can have sex (because he is sooooo good with his hands and makes her come while they are flying). Yuuuupppp *coughs*, isn't it brilliant? Oh, you make me feel so good, but, no we cannot have sex until marriage. OK, let's get married. Instantly. Oh, and the next day? Screwed over (but no worries, he has got an excuse, though it will take a year for him to tell it). I knew that was coming as soon as they dived into the idea and into bed. I have nothing against waiting until marriage, but this was just ridiculous. That is not how no sex before marriage works. :| Also, who doesn't use a condom. Hello? Think of all the things you can get, too many.

So now, Meg is a completely grumpy girl who hates planes and guys. Oh, but I need to mention that she didn't even divorce the guy. Yep, she is carrying her ring and certificate around (as I can't imagine she just keeps it in her desk all the time).

And then it got even sillier, and I was just laughing so much! OMG. That plot, really, how can you take this serious? Even later, and I am sure I should be shocked, but I just saw that twist coming for miles. I was even thinking it took quite long!

Even though the plot was ridiculous, I was shipping Meg and Niklas like crazy. I knew that even though Niklas was a grumpy *insert some mean words* he was also a good guy, we just had to dive deeper in the story to see that.

The art... well, it wasn't my favourite. Some characters looked wonderful (Niklas), but some just looked terrible (Meg). The romance scenes were done pretty dang nicely though.

All in all, this was much better than the previous Harlequin Manga I read, it was still silly, but it was good silly. And there was romance that I liked.
