On the whole I enjoyed ‘In Safe Hands’ and it kept me engaged enough to read it all in one sitting. I really liked DCI Anna Tate and her backstory is very interesting. Usually police procedural main characters don’t have much of a plot of their own so as to make the novels standalone and not to scare away new readers who may pick the books up out of order. The cliffhanger at the end of In Safe Hands is fully related to Anna which I think is refreshing and has certainly made me want to pick up the next one to find out what happens next!

I do have to criticise the story on the fact that it is a little predictable and easy to see where the plot is going to go. I actually guessed the main mastermind of the plot from a few chapters in which is unusual for me and this did ruin my enjoyment of it a little although there was lots of to keep me occupied throughout. I think the main problem in this is that there isn’t actually a large range of characters to focus on which narrows the pool of suspects down somewhat. The plot did also get a little repetitive at times which affected the pace but sped up nicely towards the end to an action packed finish.

Overall In Safe Hands is a great start to a new detective thriller with a great main character, it was just a little predictable for me! Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoy this book, it starts with a bang and follows with a steady pace. DCI Anna Tate is investigating the kidnapping of 9 children from a nursery, what made it a good read was Anna herself was also going through a similar heartache, her daughter was taken 10 years ago by her ex husband. Full of twist and turns it was a great Police prodcidual novel to start the new year.

This is the 1st but most definitely won’t be the last book I read by this author.
The book tells the story of 9 children kidnapped from their nursery and the unfolding investigation lead by Anna Tate and her team. It also tells a little of the background of Anna and her family, leaving me wanting to know more.
Whilst I guessed the main suspect early on it didn’t distract from the story in any way, JP Carter has written a story that keeps you gripped.

Wow just Wow what a book, what a storyline, What a great read. A book that I got totally lost in and did not want to put down. A plotline that tugs at the heartstrings and could give you nightmares with the thought it could and has happened to our innocents.
A nursery is invaded and nine children are kidnapped this is the nightmare that faces the distraught families of the children and the crime that DCI Anna Tate has to solve. Will the children ever be seen again and more to the point will they be found alive. Within the quiet community surrounding the school did anyone see or hear anything and it also begs the question how could it happen here and now. As Anna and her team dig deeper they find that something is not quite what it at first seemed to be but will this help them find the children.
As Anna struggles with the most disturbing case she dealt with her personal tragedies surface adding to her turmoil. As the kidnappers deadline looms the team and all involved must pull out all the stops to bring about a satisfactory conclusion.
Phew as I said earlier a book you can get totally lost in and one I can highly recommend to any crime thriller readers. A great book to start your new years reading challenge with if you have not already started. 2019 is starting out with some fabulous reads and this is one of them. Its a taunt tightly written offering with a pace that never lets up. A word of warning if you read while commuting you might miss a stop whilst engrossed in this books pages.

This is a very good police procedural with great characters. The central premise of 9 children being kidnapped from a nursery school is chilling and makes the race to find them really gripping. The cliffhanger at the end makes me hope for a second book to appear very quickly. To say this book reels you in is an understatement. I even took it to the kitchen so I could read as I was cooking dinner. Fabulously formed central character with a well thought out back story. A five star read

The above sentence ends the prologue and sets the ominous tone for this edge-of-your-seat thriller. I devoured this book and was hanging on every word as I desperately waited to discover the fate of the nine kidnapped children.

It’s a normal day at Peabody Nursery, though there is less the usual amount of children in attendance due to the summer holidays. But the normalcy is shattered when three men with guns lock the staff members in a cupboard, one of whom has a serious head injury after being attacked for trying to protect the children.

DCI Anna Tate and her team race to the scene after one of the staff members alerts the police to the crime. By the time they arrive there is no trace of the men or the children. The nine children at Peabody Nursery have been abducted. When Anna starts talking to the children’s parents it is revealed that one of the children, three-year-old Liam, has Cystic Fibrosis and his health is seriously at risk without his daily medication. With no real clues and no communication from the kidnappers, the police have a difficult and urgent task ahead of them.

As the investigation continues the kidnappers finally get in touch, first posting a picture of the frightened children online, and then follow it with a harrowing video that includes a £6 million ransom demand with threats to the children’s lives if it isn’t paid. With pressure coming from the families and her bosses, Anna is determined to find out who took the children and bring them home safely. But with few clues and her gut telling her not all the staff and parents are being truthful will she succeed?

I thought the secondary storyline about Anna’s daughter being abducted a decade ago and her continuing search for her was a good one as it connected her to the parents of the children and made her even more determined to find the children. It also gave her a backstory that made you sympathetic towards her and I for one was cheering her on to not only succeed in finding the nursery children, but hopefully finding something to lead her to her own child. These dual abduction storylines make the book doubly heart-wrenching and reminded you the outcome isn’t always a happy one in these circumstances.

This was the first book I have read by this author but it won’t be the last. In fact I was very happy that this is the first of a new crime series. I’m excited about book two and thought Anna was a fantastic character so I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her. The book was full of suspense from the start and it didn’t waver at any point. I had a few suspicions about who might be involved and about half way through I was certain I knew who was. I was proven right but it didn’t make the story feel predictable and my heart was pounding with apprehension until the last page. A fantastic book for anyone who loves thrillers.

Thoroughly enjoyed this unusual but terrifying tale involving the investigation into the seemingly inexplicable abduction of nine toddlers from their nursery. Only didn't get 5* as I had guessed who was really involved so was not entirely surprised at the resolution.

This is the first book in a series by JP Carter and I for one can't wait to read book 2. This is a parent's worst nightmare, 9 young Children are abducted from a Nursery school; a place you send your children to stay safe. The main character DCI Anna Tate is very likable and you also follow the sub-plot of her missing daughter abducted 10 years ago by her father. I loved this book and read it very quickly I did guess early on who was involved in the kidnap but it did not detract from any enjoyment. The only thing that slightly annoyed me was the cliffhanging ending to Anna's own story but I will be sure to look out for book 2 to find out what happens!

Nine toddlers are snatched from a nursery in South London and not many people hold hope that they will be seen again. Nine sets of parents are devastated, distressed and panicked regarding the safety of their children and are pleading with police to do everything that they can to bring them back home safely. DCI Anna Tate is leading the investigation and knows that all criminals make mistakes, there has to be something out there to give them the lead they so desperately need. As the kidnappers start demanding ransom money before turning the children loose, time is rapidly running out and it is already clear that at least one child will be fighting for his life.

Wow. Just wow. I enjoyed every chapter, page, paragraph, word of this book. I was on edge the entire time and quite literally felt like I was living it as I was reading it. J.P. Carter has written pure magic here in that the book reads like you’re following the investigation in real time. I felt like I was watching a breaking news story on TV, following every update as it unfolded.

DCI Anna Tate is my new favourite fictional detective. I love the way she was written in way in which I thought of her as a bad ass and a vulnerable woman all at the same time.

The characters of the parents struck a chord with me big time. They all had completely natural, expected and understandable reactions to this unthinkable crime that had been inflicted upon them, yet they were all different. I empathised with the shock, the anger, the despair and with some of their moments of feeling nothing but numb.

What a book to kick off the year! I had already text my best friend less than half way through saying “YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!” August 2019 cannot come quick enough, I can’t wait to be reunited with DCI Anna Tate. I can only hope that this 5 star banger is a sign of many more good reads to follow in 2019!

Detective chief inspector Anna Tate is in charge of the investigation. As the story unwinds, there are many surprises, twists and turns that make this an enjoyable read. It has a strong plot, told from two different perspectives with tension building throughout the book. DCI Anna Tate is a very likable character with an incident from her past that haunts her while trying to save the children. I was sure I had this book all figured out but then it spiraled into something entirely different. The ending is totally awesome. When the police arrive the nine toddlers are missing. DCI Anna Tate is the SIO for the case which will dredge up memories of her daughter’s disappearance ten years ago. As the police close in on the kidnappers Anna is contacted by a dying man who has vital information regarding her daughter’s disappearance. This is the best lead Anna has had in ten years of searching but she must remain focused on finding the nine missing toddlers first. Great read from start to finish - read it in a day. Look forward to reading more about Anna Tate.

Who would abduct children from a nursery and hold them hostage? This is what happens in this book. The police have a mad scramble trying to find clues as to where the children are, especially Liam, who has cystic fibrosis and no medicine.

A really good read. Set over three days, and led by an officer who has been seeking her own daughter for a decade.

In Safe Hands is the first book featuring DCI Anna Tate; it is an excellent start to the series and I am looking forward to the next one.

In Safe Hands is a fast paced gripping thriller with plenty of twists and turns. The story is told from the point of view of both Anna and one of the parents, Ruth. This is a great read which I recommend.

This is the first book in a new series, I hope, featuring DCI Anna Tate. Nine children are kidnapped from a nursery school in London and Anna is the investigating officer. This is a roller coaster of a read and the characters are believable. It had me gripped from the start and is well written with a great ending. Very good British based crime book. A crime which could very well happen. Yes l worked out Ethan’s role but this did not detract from my enjoyment of the storyline. Not sure if this is a sequel as it had a stand alone plot with a sub plot relating to Anna. Eager now to read more about Matthew and Chloe - recommended read

Could not put this down! So gripping. Loved Anna as the main detective in the story she was likeable and well rounded and I was rooting for her. There is also an intriguing secondary storyline with Anna’s own daughters disappearance which ended on a cliffhanger so I am eager for book two to find out more! Highly recommend. This is a solid police procedural with an unusual storyline that involves the kidnapping of 9 primary school children and the subsequent investigation. The lead detective is a likeable character with an interesting back story that runs as a theme throughout and the book ending leaves us ready for book 2.

It's well crafted and flows well and has sufficient twists and turns to maintain interest.

I enjoyed it and am grateful to the author, Netgalley and Avon/Harper Collins for the opportunity to preview.

Loved this one.
One of those novels that has you itching to get back to while you are washing up.
A strong plot, told from two different perspectives that really worked, with the tension building throughout.
I guessed from the offset that there was more to one of the 'victims' than we are first led to believe but I found myself not even trying to guess who or what in order that I didn't spoil it for myself.
Very neat conclusion with no loose ends. Although the main character's personal back story leaves you with a cliff hanger, it certainly doesn't detract from the main core of the novel.
Will look out for more by this author.

A new detective series (I hope!) introducing DCI Anna Tate. She leads an investigation into the abduction of 9 small children from their nursery school. This proves particularly difficult for Anna, as it echos her own personal situation - her daughter was abducted by her ex-husband 10 years earlier. The twists and turns in this book were brilliant and really kept me on the edge of my seat, really difficult to put down once I’d started, The cliff hanger at the end was unexpected and I really hope this means there are more books to come.
