Thoughts
Dr. Meyer writes an interesting view of why we should count cups and not calories.  He explains why fad diets aren't healthy and why they don't work. In his explanations he touches upon specific, popular plans that many have tried.
Personally I needed this book. At one time, I was in great shape with muscle definition. I ate well, did both cardio and weight-lifting exercises four times a week and was very active.  One day I realized I was too fatigued to work out and couldn't finish my exercises. The fatigue took me by surprise and  I gained 30 pounds. I began shutting down. Later that year I found out I had thyroid cancer and my life changed.
I tell you that story for one reason.  I believe Dr. Meyer's advice. Weight loss and health is simple.  Too much of the wrong foods and no exercise equals added weight and an unhealthy body. Even with my own hormonal and metabolic issues, I have to choose right foods for my body and eat them in the right portions.
The ProportionFit Diet and Health Plan was bogged down with facts, but they were necessary to emphasize medical points. There is no magic or secrets to losing weight and this book keeps it simple. We don't need fad diets. Nor do we need extreme exercising.  To lose weight we need self control concerning portions, the right food in those portions and exercise.  It is a common sense book.

I had huge hopes for this book. Unfortunately it wasn't that great. There was nothing bad about the book perse but the ideas presented were exceedingly simplistic.

According to the author, I simply need to measure my food in cups of 8 ounces while maintaining 1:1:1 ratio between carbs, protein and fat. According to my height, I can have 6 cups daily. And that's it. There was some other info about exercise and binge eating etc but wasn't that great.

This book will be good for the absolute beginners who know nothing about balanced nutrition but for all others it is not a repetition that's engaging or read-worthy.

An interesting idea. A different way of looking at diet and nutrition. Instead of weighing food it is organised by cups. I like the idea but honestly whether it works I'm not sure I'll give it a go and get back to you!
