As a child advocate I was immediately drawn to this title. Helping children process and understand how to express their emotions is so important and this book was a cute example of how to do that. My children loved the book and found the creative ways to express emotions helpful.

I would recommend this books to parents, teachers, social workers and anyone that is involved in helping chilren at any level.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Feelings Forecasters/ Relationship Navigators by Maria Mercé Conangla & Jaume Soler is comprised of five chapters teaching children about 'emotional ecology’. The lessons teach children how to recognise what they are feeling, what it might mean, and how to handle it, along with the consequences of remaining blind to your denser emotions and what they are trying to tell you. Each chapter has a series of exercises, each with reflection questions and considerations. The beginning of each chapter also has lessons on environmental ecology that are relevant to the chapter topics. I like the use of weather and weather protection imagery of Feelings Forecasters, and the nature inspired imagery of Relationship Navigators. Even though those aren't my first analogy choice, they are good ones, and imagery of any kind is how the subconscious learns and works best. If we want lasting change, it has to come from there, not our conscious thinking. These are clearly books for teachers, rather than ones to be read by children themselves. That being the case, a little more guidance for the teacher may be helpful. Unless the teacher is a psychologist, or exceptionally skilled at emotional intelligence, they are likely to stumble while helping kids with some tasks since many adults are not savvy to their own emotional undercurrents either. I wasn't a huge fan of the artwork. It's not a style that really resonated with me.

This book invites children to be meteorologists in their own emotional climates. The analogy between weather conditions and feelings provides the context for the activities and reflections in the well illustrated text. This is a book that will help children to safely explore their feelings and will then provide them with echniques that will help them to manage in daily life.

In my opinion, this book is a book for children to explore with a trusted adult. In order for them to complete the challenges, children clearly would need to feel safe. Thus, Feelings Forecasters deserves a place in schools that focus on the "whole child," as all schools should. It could also be a good resource for children who are in the foster care system who could explore the activities with peers and a trusted counselor.

Feelings Forecasters is a rather sophisticated book. Adults may initially need to help children to buy into its agenda. If they can become invested, children will have the opportunity to better understand themselves and to manage in a complex environment.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this informative and emotionally resourceful read. The opinions are my own.

Feelings Forecasters A Creative Approach to Managing Emotions by Maria Mercè Conangla and Jaume Soler, provides a wonderfully unique approach to learning how to deal with feelings. Since I am currently going through a divorce, this book has been very helpful for my children who were having a hard time expressing themselves with words. This idea of using meteorology as a way to explain feelings is quite brilliant.

This five chapter book consist of the same structure throughout, which is incredibly helpful when working with small children. Acid Rain was my favorite chapter, after reading and rereading the book, I realized Feeling Forecasters is super helpful for adults as well. While the chapter on contaminated planets really resonated with my 10 year old son.

This series helps elementary aged children explore feelings. Not only does it share about experiences and ideas but it also includes activities for the readers to really engage with these topics. Learning coping skills is so important for children as they navigate through the world around them. Understanding how you feel can help you learn how to handle unique and sometimes challenging situations. As a parent to children this age, I enjoyed this series and love the idea of not only bettering ourselves but being a positive and caring member of our larger community around us.
