TO CATCH A VAMPIRE by Jennifer Harlow is so much wacky fun! It actually reminded me of the early Sookie Stackhouse books, you know, back when The Southern Vampire Mysteries are still great and fun to read and not the boring, dragging tomes it's become of late. JHarlow reminded me why I used to love reading about the undead. They're predatory, seductive, manipulative and mostly ridiculous and so full of themselves they make for really great stories.

This little investigative adventure Bea and Oliver went to is packed with fanger action topped with the usual snark that is signature Bea. Well at least as far as Oliver is concerned. The interesting development is Bea finally gave in to Oliver's charms! Pretending to be a married couple did it's number on her and slowly she's getting emotionally invested not only on their little farce but Bea is actually getting jealous over Oliver's flirtatious nature. Those moments where Bea is acting all possessive over Oliver was both a surprise and definitely a game changer. Bea just found herself in a love triangle, torn between a vamp and a werewolf, and even I am not sure which team to root for! Oliver really did a number on us with this one, revealing the other parts of his personality and I must admit he grew on me.

I really love this series not only because the blood, gore and humor are well balanced but also because of how vulnerable her characters are. They hide behind their smiles, attitudes and snark but they are not invincible and immune to human fallacy. They love, get hurt, bleed and die. In both books so far a member of Bea's team bit the dust and I appreciate character deaths in series. It helps keep the storyline from going stagnant. The humor on the other hand is infallible! I read that JHarlow is or used to be a DJ and I wish I got to listen to one of her radio shows. Not only that she also used to be a crisis hotline volunteer, I bet she saved a lot of lives just by using her sense of humor.

So if you want some good, 'ol fun Urban Fantasy series, I highly recommend you read Jennifer Harlow's A F.R.E.A.K.S. Squad Investigation. It's funny, filled with action, a pinch of romance and a boat-load of hilarity you will definitely enjoy!
