I just couldn't get into the novel, the premise was good but I didn't enjoy the writing style or the main character.

This was really not my cup of tea, I never reviewed it when I read it a few years ago as I didn't want to say anything bad about an up and coming book, but I really didn't enjoy the writing style. It's very graphic and sort of shove-down-your-throat kind of storytelling and I found it difficult to swallow. And I'm not just talking about the violent scenes, it's the way everything is described with a constant air of bluntness. Still though, I'm sure some people might find it quite the thriller.

I’ve wanted to step out of my historical fiction comfort zone for a while so when I saw Ricochet on the Xpresso Book Tours list; I had to check it out. Little did I know that I would find myself completely immersed in the story. David “Dave” Kennedy’s writing style is one that I love. He does a great job setting the scene without losing the reader’s attention.

I found myself gripping my Kindle Paperwhite hard during a few intense scenes and rooting for the story’s heroine Brenda. I loved reading a story with a strong woman who worked to overcome her dark and trying past.

Overall, I found this to be a thought-provoking, empowering and action-packed novel that will keep you hooked till the very end. I would highly recommend this to my fellow readers who love mystery and suspense. This is a book you will not want to miss out on!

I really tried with this, but I struggled to finish.
Now in theory, who wouldn’t like to read about the female love child of James Bond, Jason Bourne, MacGyver and Hannibal Lecter?
Trouble is, in practice, the heroine just doesn’t work for me at all. She’s barely out of high school, yet she’s great at absolutely everything - an expert at martial arts, shooting, rock climbing, running, of course she’s also beautiful and a genius gadget inventor, engineer and physicist, a savvy traveller, personality chameleon and knows everything about everything. She’s also a violent sociopath, but for some reason she cares about the injustices of the world so she only kills bad people. Duh.
The author clearly knows how to write a fast-paced, action-packed story and there’s much to like - but the main character is so utterly annoying and unlikeable, and - dare I say it - unrealistic, and the violence is often completely unnecessary, does little to advance the plot and seems to be just there to shock, I’m sorry to say I’m giving up half way through.
I think Brenda might be more at home in an urban fantasy setting - if she was a vampire or witch or even a dragon or something the whole thing might make more sense, but as it stands, this is sadly not for me.
I’m sure it will find an audience though - there’s definitely potential, it just didn’t float my boat.

This book is extremely and gratuitously violent. I could not finish it. The pages I read were mostly the MC did this or that, a lot of telling, not showing, hence boring as well as violent. I cannot recommend the book, and I have never offered such a poor review, but I was sickened by what I read,.

Lots of action as Brenda, the protagonist, begins work for secret agency SCRAM putting to work so many skills, talents, and techie inventions that James Bond would be jealous. Jumping into her psyche and history reveals much more of the character and the problems she faces. Looking for a serious thriller, try elsewhere, this is pure escapism.
