This is a cute Christmas novella. Due to the size there’s not a lot of meat to the story, which left me wanting more. I wish we got to see them fall in love and Dylan had some big sickness that we were told about but was never mentioned again.

There’s a lot of talk of mating, heat, and masturbation but then there’s no steam. I don’t need sex in my books but this felt like it was missing it based in the focus on heat and mating. I did like that Preston held off on their mating until Dylan was really ready and not just in heat.

This book defied my expectations, but I’m not sure it was a good thing... I really liked the characters and wanted them to thrive, but I just didn’t enjoy the wolves aspect. This shouldn’t put you off reading this book however, as it’s just not my type of thing! But I know some friends who would probably enjoy it a great deal more than me, and I would still recommend it to them!

Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this? I was definitely prepared to be like 'maybe no'? Honestly, though, I think this was done very, very well.

I'm a sucker for ABO (alpha, beta, omega) stuff in fan fiction, but had never read any original stuff with it, so when I came across this I thought why not. And was not disappointed. There's none of the 'oh no, I can't resist' current that sometimes is there and is creepy as hell.

There's a particular scene a little later that I just loved how Preston handled everything? What an actual good person.

Anyway - overall this was cute as hell. Would definitely recommend for people who are interested in ABO or just a cute, and steamy, m/m age gap romance.

This is a first for me by this author.

Preston believed he would never find his mate. When he finally does, he’s in for a surprise. His mate, Dylan, is a rare omega wolf-shifter, but he’s still a child himself. Due to the unusual circumstances, the families agree to keep Preston and Dylan separated, only allowing monitored emails to be exchanged between them. Six years later, Dylan returns to the wolf-shifter town of Barton, and Preston. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for Dylan to meet the Callahan Pack, reunite with his mate, and figure out exactly what his omega status means for his future with Preston.

A short Novella... a nice quick read... you don't get to know the story of the characters too much but there is just enough to get you through the story.
I really enjoyed it... It's an entertaining and sweet read.

I will keep my eye out for more of Kay's work.

Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.

3.5 Stars

This is a lovely Christmas story about Preston and Dylan who are werewolf mates.

They meet when Dylan is only 12 and so Preston has to wait six long years for Dylan to grow up. When Dylan is 18 they meet and their romance begins. It is a short story about love that comes together at last but it is a very nice story and just right for the season. If you like werewolves and seasonal novellas then this one is just right.

A sweet age gap story.

Sugar Cookies and Mistletoe is a short novella so it was a really quick read for me. It's difficult to do a lot of character development in such a short book but Kay Doherty did a good job of conveying everything we need to know about the characters.

The blurb lets you know that when Preston finds his mate, Dylan, that he is still a child. This is kind of weird, most age-gap stories I've read both parties have been adults when they meet. This isn't one of those forbidden type of stories, though, as Dylan goes away to stay with family until he comes of age. The only contact that he and Preston have is through email.

It's Christmastime, 6 years later, when Dylan returns to Preston so they can begin their life together. This may be one of the sweetest, least graphic, M/M stories I've ever read; there was no on page sex and really very little talk about it at all. While I enjoy sex in the M/M books I read it's not always necessary to tell a good story and I enjoyed reading this one.

I almost always wish that books that are this short were longer so I can get to know the characters better but I knew how short Sugar Cookies and Mistletoe was when I agreed to read and review it. It's my first book by Kay Doherty and I will be reading more of her work.

A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.

I requested this short story from NetGalley because I wanted a Christmas romance story to get myself in the mood. Add in the whole ‘one true love’ trope and I was sold.

This short story has the alpha/omega wolf tropes which is something I haven’t seen a lot of in published fiction so I was interested in how it was going to be handled. Preston is the alpha wolf, who is resenting the parade where alphas find their mates because he is sure he isn’t going to find his, when he smells his mate. Only trouble is that he’s twelve.

I was a little wary about this but I felt like the author handled it very well. Preston and Dylan were instantly split up, Dylan moved to an undisclosed location, and they were allowed supervised email contact until Dylan became an adult and could make the decisions himself. The whole idea could have come across as very skeevy but I think the author did well to avoid that and the romance turned out really cute.

I think I would have preferred if this short story had been more novella length because there was a lot in this story that could have been explored, such as Dylan and Preston’s age gap, Preston’s experience versus Dylan’s inexperience and the view of ‘omega pheromones making alphas unable to control their actions’ which Preston proved wrong quite well.

This was a sweet holiday romance story but I would have loved a little more exploration on some points of the romance. 3.5 stars!

The book was way too short. We didn’t get the day to day with them. And I was confused, Preston said that he wanted to get to know Dylan, his likes/dislikes, favorite color, etc. what the heck did they talk about during those six years? They should have know all of that. Also, they are wolfs, shifters I’m assuming, but they never shifted and ran. Their little ones were in wolf form so I’m assuming the adults could have been. I really wish the author would turn this into a full length novel so we can get some of what went on during the six years, more of their day to day, the pregnancy/birth and even the sex. But it was a sweet holiday read. The Christmas presents were so from the heart! This is a new to me author but I will be checking out some of her other books.

Cute story. I didnt know it was a novella and I wish it would have been longer. Since it was so short they disnt have much time to get to know each other. Entertaining sweet read.

A bit too short for me - there wasn’t enough to really be substantial. I liked the idea of it but feel that it needed to be expanded into a full novel. Maybe some very brief glimpses of the events the two went through by themselves before finally meeting again six years later and starting their relationship and continuing what could be a novel. Cute short story but needs more.

Really short with a lot crammed in. Was a bit ungh when Preston and Dylan met but glad things didn’t go that way. Think I would’ve preferred cut contact until of age. I liked Preston’s patience and the ending was cute.

Well, that was disappointing...

I don’t know exactly what I expected, but it wasn’t such a large age gap and for Dylan and Preston to meet when Dylan is only 12 years old. I usually like mate stories and alpha/omega pairings, but this story just fell really flat for me. Made me glad it’s such a short story...

I received this book voluntarily to read and review from NineStar Press Publication. I have not read anything by the author Kay Doherty. I will try her work again. I didn't like this book the main reason for me it was confusing. I know the author was writing about wolves but she switched between human form and wolves. So then it kept you guessing as this about wolves or was she talking about humans. I was very shocked when she made the mate of a 28 man/wolve to be the age of 12. Nothing happen until he was of age but when you aren't expecting that. And I am sure wolves do things differently but when you are writing about wolves and humans. I don't feel that it worked so well.
