Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Ms Harper has been one of my favorite authors, and once again she didn't disappoint with this one. The book was well written, and kept me gripped with her descriptions of the harshness of the Australian outback until the very end. Recommended.

This has lingered on my ‘to read’ shelf for a very long time. Apologies to the publisher, author and netgalley for not reading and reviewing this sooner. I loved ‘The Dry’ by this author, then I thought her next few books went off the boil, but she’s back on form with this one. I loved it. A great crime thriller! I would recommend this.

Now this is how you write Australian fiction! What a great book. The story is realistic and engaging, the characters are vibrant and real. Also, when you read a book, set in the Queensland desert, in the middle of summer, on the two hottest UK days on record, it all becomes very method.

Harper is now an auto buy for me.

I have enjoyed every one of Jane Harper's books more than the one before and The Lost Man continued that trend. Her keen eye for character conflicts and family relationships, combined with atmospheric prose and a tightly plotted mystery makes this one another winner!

Another belter from Jane Harper. She is brilliant at setting the scene of rural Australia - you can feel the claustrophobia of the heat and isolation. My favourite is still The Dry but this does come a close second.

Having read The Dry and Force of Nature I suddenly realised this book had somehow slipped my mind. How could I?
Another gripping tale by Jane Harper and set in the Australian outback
What’s not to love?

This is exactly what I had hoped for. I loved The Dry and didn't particularly like Force of Nature but The Lost Man is a pacey intriguing thriller that kept me guessing. Harper writes such atmospheric thrillers that she truly transports me to the setting. A fun gripping thriller perfect for a beach read or a palate cleanser if you're looking for a fast-paced read.

a fantastic storyline while giving great insight into the many trials and tribulations of living in the outback.

Jane Harper is wonderful and I read this book in just a few hours on a plane journey. As with The Dry, it was absolutely gripping, and not a little off-putting for my plans to go into the Australian Outback! Jane Harper is now one of my favourite crime novelists.

Absolutely amazing. I loved every second of this and could barely put it down. Twists I didn’t see coming, well plotted and made me want to read every other book she has written.

I read the first novel by Jane Harper on a whim and was instantly sucked into a very different environment from the normal Scandinavian crime novels i'd been reading. Setting her novels in the Outback makes the journey fresh and innovative, allowing us to be drawn into a setting that is completely different. This novel is a stand-alone mystery and was a riveting read - completed in one evening! I recommend this for fans crime/mystery fans looking for something a little different to your standard fare.

Jane Harper has fast become one of my favourite writers of crime/thrillers. I found The Lost Man even more accomplished than The Dry and Force of Nature. Harper's strength lies in hooking the interest of the reader early on, by providing an unusual conundrum, and succeeding in maintaining that interest by weaving a complicated web of suspects and possible scenarios. She is great at building tension. I also admire her ability to convey the beautiful but deadly environment - the heat, the great expanse of empty desert, the isolation - and how that shapes her characters and their actions. I eagerly await her next book!

I can't recommend this highly enough. Jane Harper had me engrossed in this, her latest novel. The vastness of the outback coupled with the claustrophobia of the farmer's homes and lives. And what did happen at the stockman's grave? I spent time in the Australian outback and this novel brought it all back, the colours, the darkness, the silence. Please read this; you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoy reading Jane Harper's books. She is very good at conveying the suffocating emptiness of the Australian outback, and her characters are engaging and rounded. The Lost Man begins with the discovery of a body by a lonely gravestone, miles from anywhere. It is Cameron Bright, one of three brothers, and it is obvious that he has died from being out in the harsh outback sun. But how did he get there? There appears to be no evidence of foul play, but would anyone really choose such a slow and painful death? Older brother Nathan is unconvinced, but he has problems of his own. As Christmas approaches, family secrets emerge, and old tensions resurface. An enjoyable read.

Set in the Australian outback, Cameron has been found dead and the question is did he choose this for himself or not?

This is the third of Jane Harper’s books set in the outback that I’ve read, this one is a stand-alone read but yet again Jane Harper hits the mark in writing a book that explores the intricacies of relationships and a very cleverly written thriller that keeps you guessing till the end. I enjoy the fact that you get the cleverness of a mystery without all the blood and guts that often accompanies this genre!

Many thanks to Little, Brown Book Group UK and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

An absolute return to form for Jane Harper, even better than her first novel. Could not stop reading this, so pacey, and some really intriguing, convincing characters. Brilliant at evoking the searing heat and isolation of the Australian outback.

Having come across this book with no prior knowledge of the author I didn’t expect much from this. However, I found myself drawn into the unrelenting solitude of the Australian outback and those who live there. The story was quite drawn out but it suited the atmosphere created by the characters and the landscape they inhabit. Fantastic read. Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

Atmospheric and tense, this book really grabs hold fro the very beginning. Great imagery, and believable characters. A pacy and enjoyable read.
