A good romance always makes my knees go weak and fills my stomach with butterflies. And let me scream this out loud, THIS BOOK IS THE REAL DEAL.

Leon and Tiffy share a flat and a bed but have never met. They talk via post its/sticky notes. That’s how they get to know each other and that’s how they feel that even with fewer words between them, they are extremely comfortable with each other.

There are a lot of reasons this book has become my favorite read of 2019.

-This is not just a love story. Its a story celebrating friendships, sharing each other’s grief and being the best version of oneself.

-Leon and Tiffy are absolute goals. They are polar opposites and the writing style supports it very strongly. Leon is adorable at times and I might have giggled a lot throughout the book. Tiffy is a darling with her use of more words than necessary in a conversation and her ability to bring out the best in people.

-The story also talks about a subtle, but a common form of abuse in a relationship (don’t worry, there’s nothing violent about it, or I would have been the first one to abandon the book)

-The writing is bliss. It is entertaining and hilarious, but it also talks about feelings and emotions in a way that the reader can relate. This book feels real in all possible ways and that is probably, the most beautiful aspect about it.

One of the main reasons I enjoyed this book so much is because of the story and the mindblowing narration. Tiffy and Leon are characters taken from real life, who have basic, everyday problems and handle it in the most normal manner. A wonderful romance, that made me love all these characters and pray for a happily ever after whenever anything went wrong.

From reading the description I knew I was going to love this book and I did - Tiffany and Leon share a bed in a flat but haven't met - They find out about each other through post it notes that they leave for each other. This is a joy to read - lovely, uplifting, funny and ultimately a happy story - loved it . A perfect romantic escapism.

I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I am a complete sucker for a quirky romance and I loved the way these two fell in love. I loved the notes, the care, the developing friendship, the cooking - all of it. Highly recommend - brilliant voice, pacy narrative, a great read.

Really enjoyable read with two likeable characters! The two character perspectives offered some genuinely funny and sweet moments and developed the more serious points in the story well.

Ultimately a lovely read especially for the summer! Will recommend to others for this.

The Flatshare is a lovely Rom-com with more depth than I had imagined it would. At times, funny and light-hearted; the story also shows the pain caused by emotionally abusive relationships. A heartwarming and uplifting tale.

This is a really lovely romcom which as well as warming your heart and making you smile like your average romantic comedy it also tackles a very difficult societal issue in way that makes it relatable but also doesn't diminish the seriousness of the issue and the impact it has on those affected by it. This is one of the best contemporaries I've read in a good while. The story is through the first person perspectives of the two main characters as well as notes and texts which highly enhanced the story telling.

This book reads like Richard Curtis was attached to write the screenplay. It's warm and fuzzy in parts, vulnerable and raw in others and darkened and dampened where it needs to be. The characters feel so real, you could be living in the flat next door to them. I'm sure we all know a Tiffy or a Leon somewhere in our mad circle of friends, and these two quickly become your close compatriots as you read through this remarkable debut.

It's so much more than just a romantic comedy. O'Leary talks openly about the realities of emotional abuse, of how one is affected by it in many different ways and how it's not always visible to the victim. Whilst you might read the first few chapters and think it's diving head-first into Bridget Jones territory, I urge you to hang on and keep going, because there a warmth and brightness to this novel that I have not read in a very long time. Much like its protagonist, it's a little quirky, a little off-kilter, highly emotional but filled with a golden heart and lots of love.

Even the supporting cast is wonderful! You will have moments where you want to punch characters in the face (for good reason- see abuser Justin and certified dickhead Martin), but there are others when you just want to give them a hug. Tiffy is the kind of female protagonist I adore reading about because she's confident, kind and not hung up about her looks or her personality. Even after her break-up, she doesn't spend days wallowing in whether she's fat or stupid enough to drive him away- and it's amazing! These are the kind of 'strong female characters' that we're talking about seeing more of. Complex, flawed, three-dimensional women who don't fall back onto stereotypes to drive plot or character motivation.

In short, I loved this book. I don't know what I'm going to do now it's over.

Not my usual genre of choice but really enjoyed this. An excellent premise and well-drawn characters that you find yourself cheering on. Would recommend for a fun read.

I really, truly enjoyed reading this book. It's one of those quirky romantic books you only get with a British setting. USA, take note.

Books where the MC works at a publishing house is almost automatically a win for me and this is no exception.

The whole concept of flatmates that never see each other is interesting and not totally unheard off. My older brother currently has one of those, although they do not share a bed. So it might sound totally weird, but it does happen in real life. The falling in love part may be stretching it a little, but hey, that's why it's fiction, right?

I like Tiffy as a character. She's a good-hearted British gal with her heart in the right place.

Leon is an enjoyable and heartwarming character who wants to help everyone around him as much as he can and with his brother in prison awaiting trial, he really needs help himself. Enter Tiffy.

Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot; it made me smile, laugh and only slightly roll my eyes at the "coincidental" way things worked out sometimes. But again, it's fiction and sometimes they have to be predictable and almost served on a platter for you.

Also, I discovered that Carrie Hope Fletcher is doing the voice of Tiffy on the audiobook! I love and admire that young woman so much, so I'm thinking that the audiobook is worth a listen.

A slightly offbeat tale about two flat mates who share the same bed on timeshare basis this book just didn’t talk to me as I hoped it would. I think perhaps I am not the right generation, not who it is aimed at. I could see the humour, the pathos, the oddness of their situation but it just didn’t appeal to me like I thought it would. It’s well written and I am sure others would enjoy it but this one, sadly, is not for me

To say I loved this novel would be an understatement, it was brilliant. It was funny, sad and the premise highly original. Who has ever read about two people who share a flat and a bed but never actually meet. One occupies the bed 9am – 6pm the other 6pm to 9am, what could possibly go wrong? Would you flatshare on this basis, because I don’t think I would but then I am not Tiffy and Leon who embarked on this madcap enterprise! Tiffy was what I can only describe as slightly whacky, obsessed by crafting and fuelled that obsession by her work as an editor in a publishing firm. I adored her personality she was full of colour and wit and even if she had just split up with her boyfriend she always looked on the bright side, only saw the good in everyone. She was funny, witty, got herself into scrapes yet had a heart of gold and a complete breath of fresh air. Leon, her landlord, was almost her complete opposite. The weight of the world appeared to rest on his shoulders, his night shifts as a hospice nurse perhaps the reason until O’Leary slowly unveiled his family. His was a fractured, broken family buried under injustice, that Leon fought with all his might to rectify, that O’Leary used to great effect to unravel Leon’s tenacious and determined personality. You knew that eventually the two would meet but how was the eternal question and this is where O’Leary excelled. Using post it notes that Tiffy and Leon wrote to each other and pinned all over the apartment you could sense something happening, the notes got longer, as they revealed their troubles and indeed their personalities. I loved the wit and funny one liners O’Leary threw in from Tiffy, saying it as it was, compared to the careful, hidden traits of Leon. You knew they were destined to be together, I grew frustrated as proposed meet-ups were thwarted and the pages turned more furiously as you became more desperate to find out what happened next. "The Flatshare" wasn’t all fluffy and light, it did have a serious side too, but O’Leary brilliantly balanced the light and the dark. Her narrative was wonderful, full of riotous colour that piqued your imagination, that made you laugh one minute before it sent you spiralling downwards on the next page. If there was one thing I will take away from The Flatshare is that I totally fell in love with Tiffy and Leon and did not want to leave them.

3.5 stars

My heart feels warm. A great rom-com like story that also deals with heavier topics like unhealthy relationships and paying for something you haven't done. I had such a good time reading this book! Not everything about it was happy and cute and sweet, but I truly enjoyed it. I didn't really care for the way it was written, though. The formatting kind of annoyed me at times. Other that that, I would highly recommend!

Thank you NetGalley and Quercus books for a copy of The Flatshare by Beth O’leary. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. For a debut novel, this is amazing. If you like writers like Jojo Moyes and Marian Keyes, this is the book for you.
Tiffy Moore has moved out of her flat after ending a difficult relationship. But, having problems finding a flat in London, when she sees Leon Twomey’s advert to for not only a flat share but, also a bed share. Leon needs money. Leon is a Palliative Care nurse and works nights. At first Tiffy, thought this was an unusual arrangement but, she agrees. Leon and Tiffy are never in the flat at the same time. So they leave post-it notes to each other. They get to know each other. Leon talks about his brother who is wrongly convicted and Tiffy talks about her relationship with her ex Justin and her job. The soon fall in love.
I have read quite a few romantic novels but, this is different to others that I have read. I loved this for its originality and its quirkiness. But it had great characters and I loved the sense of humour. I am sure this is going to be a hit.

I found this to be a really enjoyable read that would make the perfect book to read while sunbathing on the beach with a few cocktails.

I did catch a few typos and inconsistencies but all in all would recommend to anyone who enjoys chick lit books.
