Hauntingly beautiful, a great read with stunning black and white drawings to go with the story line/dialogue

This is a dark, odd, sort of picture book.

The pictures are twisted and angry looking.

The protagonist is waiting to blow someone up, and doesn’t understand the appeal of the library.

This short story was originally part of an anthology of war, and its affects on civilians. I’m not sure if it works as a picture book, powerful as it is.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I received an eArc of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I've always been fascinated with Dave McKean's artwork. The story is a powerful and affecting tale of the power of libraries and reading to open minds.
Highly recommended!

I checked into this book because of my love of Dave McKean’s art, which was every bit the wonder I hoped it would be. Moreover, I found an interesting story and a text well worth reading.

This book was full of artful and beautiful surprises. Highly recommended.

A haunting and hopeful story about the importance of libraries and the magic of books. Probably best for YA or at least ages 12 and older. The art is beautiful, and but I would not called it a graphic novel because the words are gathering and printed in blocks outside of the illustrations.
