This is a lovely rainy Sunday afternoon read. Emily needs to try and save her magazine, The Tweet, from going under and needs an exposé to do that. She’s promised her girlfriend she’ll return to the corporate world if she can’t make it work in two years and that deadline is fast approaching. News of some birds in a tree on a farm in Ojai, California might be what she needs. Frances, the farmer, is difficult and reclusive. Sydney also needs to be in Ojai to audition for a position as a pole dancing instructor at an exclusive pole and fitness studio in Beverly Hills.

Emily and Sydney are at odds from the moment they meet so ending up in the same town was never going to make them bosom buddies. Emily is a rule-follower from a fairly privileged upbringing but she doesn’t have the greatest body image thanks to her gym-bunny mother. Sydney is lawless and has no qualms manipulating the rules when it suits her.

They’re wonderfully antagonistic from the beginning but there are no surprises. This is light, fluffy and pleasant.

Book received from Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.
