I want to start out by saying, I am not huge on self-help books. I love more personal development type books, not where the author tries to “fix” everyone. So whenever I read a book like this, it falls into one of these categories for me. I have followed the author on social media for a few years & love her content. She is very real, raw and inspiring. So I had high expectations for this book. She did not disappoint y’all. This book is amazing!!! It doesn’t feel like she is standing at a pulpit preaching to you. It feels as though Jordan is your friend & you are having coffee together. I found so many tangible tools in this book to carry into my every day life. Thank you Jordan for this book! It will inspire many, many women out there. This book is out 5/14.

Thank you to Netgalley & the publisher for this advanced readers copy.

This book was received as an ARC from WaterBrook & Multnomah - WaterBrook in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

A lot of our young teenage readers at the library are familiar with Jordan and her podcast and were highly anticipating the release of this book. The format and the language used in this book connects with that particular audience and I know they will develop a personal relationship with Jordan with her sense of sharing and her personality. When I was reading it, I felt like I knew her and that we are friends and I knew her personal struggles throughout key parts of her life. I really think this book will succeed with the teen audiences and who knows maybe even change some lives too.

We will consider adding this title to our biography/self-help section of our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Own Your Everyday is such a wonderful book and I truly enjoyed reading it.

It is like getting to sit down to a cup of coffee with Jordan Lee Dooley herself and discuss life.

She reminds us that we are more than what we feel we are not,
we are everything that the Lord made us to be and He has a plan for our lives.

She reminds us to "Own Our Everyday"
even on the days that it just seems like one big mess - because even the little moments...
they matter.

If you are looking for a great pep-talk and a "You can do this!" -
I highly recommend this book!

I really loved the feeling of this book - helpful without being preachy. Good, implementable ideas to aid in our search for purpose and identity. I will be recommending to many friends I know struggling with “imposter syndrome“.

When I saw the cover of this book, I said to myself, I want to smile like that. Jordan has written a sweet book that reads like a conversation with a dear friend. It is like she is telling you her deepest secrets to help you know you are not alone in your feelings. She writes about insecurities and limiting beliefs that she had to overcome to get that radiant smile. This is the book I wish my younger self had picked up out of college.

I finished the book last night. All day long I have contemplated how to comment on this group page.
When I was first chosen for this team, I really thought I was chosen by mistake. I read all of the introductions on this page and everyone was my boys' ages. But then, God.

I picked up my Kindle and started reading and felt as if Jordan wrote the book just for me. It will be a book I read over and over and over again. I will buy copies and pass them out to ladies in my community.

I have lost my purpose the past year or so. My 46 year old sister-in-law passed away unexpectantly last summer, leaving behind a husband and 3 teenagers. Then my oldest son suddenly got married and moved out after 23 years at home. My youngest son went back to college. My husband started commuting to work 68 miles one way. I got two new principals as bosses at my elementary school. With all of this, I think I have kind of disconnected from everything and everyone. I have interacted just enough to get things done and keep up with life.

God has used this book to tell me to get back to life. He still has a purpose for me. There are still people out there that God can use me to reach.

Thank you, Jordan, for letting God use you to give a message to me and so many others.

There are some books that we do not want to end, and “Own Your Everyday” was one of those books for me! At first, I was thinking that maybe this book was more geared towards younger readers: teens and college students who were still figuring out which direction that they want their lives to go in. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could really connect to many parts of this book, and I found plenty of truths that applied to my life as a 32 year old mama with an established career.

Reading this book felt a lot like having a conversation with a dear friend. Jordan writes in a very real and down to earth way, and her words were very encouraging to women in many different stages of life. My main take away from the book was to not just sit around and wait for the perfect circumstances, but go out into the world and live a life of purpose NOW. Do not be a perfectionist who thinks you are a failure if life does not go a certain way. Instead, live a life where your purpose is to love others well, and let any failures instead become a learning experience.

Some quotes that stood out to me from the book include:

“You cannot live your purpose if you if you are so preoccupied with with trying to make it look like someone else’s.”

“Stop waiting for someday or one day to be more disciplined, take a tiny step toward your dream, or try new things. You’ll get stuck living for one day. Start right here, in your everyday. You never know what amazing things it could bring.”

“You won’t even be happy when you get to where you’re going if you don’t learn to love your imperfect, everyday life now.”

“I hope you do big things and go after your wildest dreams. But guess what? You cannot do the big, cool, extraordinary things until you learn to show up for the not so cool, everyday things. There is no way around that.”

I would recommend this to any woman from high school age on up who feels that this message resonates with them. I was blessed to receive an advanced reader’s copy of this book from the publisher, Waterbrook and Multnomah, in exchange for my honest review.

I just finished an advanced copy of this amazing book, it is such a fun and impactful read.
Jordan is so honest and spoke straight to my heart. I loved how it was written... Not because it was perfect English, but because it read like a conversation, as if Jordan was sitting with me and speaking to me directly.
But what I loved most about this book is that it is full of practical advice. Jordan speaks about topics that I think every woman can relate to and shares her own stories, and actually gives tips we can implement into our day to day lives to live out the truths she is sharing.
I do think this is a must read for every woman out there.

What are your priorities? Are they plainly evident to others by the way you live your life? As you answer these questions and examine your life, the author will lead you down a path to own your everyday.

How many of us waste time, energy and emotions on comparing? Wouldn’t it be so much better to spend our time, energy and emotions on being more compassionate, getting connected and helping to create community? The author offers helpful and practical advice as to how to accomplish these important things.

I loved reading about the friendship between Jordan and Mel. They became fast friends and were able to be vulnerable with each other. They instantly enjoyed each other’s company while laughing and spending time together. Close friendships are gifts from God and every woman needs at least one.

Each of us needs at least one person, in our corner, who dares us to dream. Now that I have read this book, I will be looking for others to encourage and I will dare them to dream.

This book is loaded with good advice, but my personal favorite is to develop an attitude of gratitude. It’s easy to be grateful for the good things in life, but we also need to be grateful for the disappointments and setbacks. Our difficult experiences can be valuable lessons and redirect us to something even better than what we were originally hoping for.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Waterbrook & Multnomah through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Holy moly! This book got straight to the heart of things. It really forced me to look at my own motivation for what I do and where I struggle with my sense of purpose. If you want to begin peeling back the layers of insecurities in your own life, then this is the book for you. You don't have to be perfect or perform for everyone. You just have to be clear in your "why" and let that carry through in your life. That will guide everything you do and help you fulfill your purpose. Doesn't mean you have to have it all figured out! But this will give you a good start in overcoming some of the things that often hold you back.

I really enjoyed this book! I’ve been following Jordan on social media for a few years now, and have always found her writing style very accessible and realistic.

When I first started this book, I was concerned it was going to be a very fluffy self-help book with a lot of platitudes but not a lot of actionable content. I was proven wrong pretty much immediately. Jordan has listed tactical steps to take to address things like perfectionism, uncertainty, and insecurity, which I really appreciate. I highlighted a ton of text to refer back to later, and am already brainstorming ways I can apply her tips.

I think the book gets stronger about 25% of the way through, so I encourage you to stick with it through the introduction and really get to the meat of her advice.

One comment, though - can writers please stop referring to their readers as “sister”?! 😅

All in all, I really liked this book and would recommend it.

Someone else described this as a “conversation meets guide book” and I totally agree! Jordan begins by letting the reader know she’s the same as us and I truly felt I was getting advice from a close friend and learning from her experiences. This is a great read for anyone who struggles with comparison and self doubt. After each section, Jordan lists out practical ways to help overcome imposter syndrome and insecurities,

"Own Your Everyday" by Jordan Lee Dooley is an encouraging book for women about stepping up and being the person they were created to be. Dooley points out that often we are the thing that holds us back from a purposeful life. That being said, Dooley provides honest and helpful tips to push aside doubt and comparison to lead readers towards their goals.

Dooley excels when she is in storytelling mode. Readers can feel encouraged by knowing Dooley has had the same struggles, and overcame or is still in the struggle. She is real, so as she shares her experience she feels like a trustworthy voice, a friend in a coffee shop, a phone call at the perfect moment. She gives tangible examples, rather than unrealistic ones, that allow readers to connect to her and to each other.

The biggest thing this book provides is a change in mindset. In order to live a purposeful life, we must reevaluate our desires and goals. Dooley reminds us that we were created with a purpose and it takes one step in the right direction to change everything.

This book really is a game-changer! Jordan spoke right into my heart and every chapter was filled with stories that were totally relateable, practical advice, and encouragement that spurred me to take action. I haven't read a book that pushes me toward my goals and towards Jesus at the same time like this one does. I'm recommending it to ALL my friends and every woman out there.

Through reading my ARC, I fell in love with this book. The writing is polished, yet down-to-earth. Jordan's writing is so relatable. Reading this book feels like sitting down to coffee with a good friend.

This is a MUST read!! Jordan makes it so personal, as if you were joining her for a cup of coffee! This book is so needy in our society as women! As women we all struggle with insecurities & finding out purpose. Jordan lays the truth out about what the Bible says about these topics! I highly recommend all women to grab your copy today!! SO good!

Where to start....Jordan writes as if she's literally sitting next to you on your couch, sipping coffee and chatting about life-the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's that personable. It's that authentic. You already feel like you're best friends, which makes reading this so much better.
I want to share this book with every woman and girl. Jordan's realness is a breath of fresh air in this social media driven age that bombards us with all these positive truths and "realness", but Jordan takes a step back and address the normalness we tend to lose sight of in all that. I can't wait for another one in the future.

*Book release in May of 2019

I was blessed enough to receive an ARC of this amazing and beautiful book. I found Jordan through YouTube and eventually Instagram. I absolutely adore hearing her tech the Word and her take on topics. So when I heard she had a book coming I was ecstatic!

I love how Jordan dove into tough topics that other books may not. It went deep into issues and I love that in a book. It also kept the easy-to-read-and-understand nature that Jordan writes like in her Instagram and speaks on her YouTube videos.

In one of the chapter near the end of the book Jordan talks about redefining your “success” and what it means to you. That instead of writing an entire book and calling that your success, make your success 1,000 words a day. Being off your phone by 7pm. Etc. I loved that! I feel like it creates more positive in one’s daily life— and don’t we all need more of that good stuff?!

Overall I adored this book and highly, highly recommend it! It would make a great Bible study for you and friends at church or coworkers! It’s easy to read (which I love in non-fiction books!) and goes deep into topics.

Solid five stars
