It's time for the county's fall festival and annual pie contest. For more years than not Alma, the bishop's wife has made the award-winning boysenberry pie. Unfortunately, Alma finds herself on the wrong end of a cast iron skillet. Can Kappy and friends find out who would want to keep the bishop's wife from participating in the pie cook-off this year?

I love this Amish cozy mystery series. The titles make me smile, the cover art is fun and the stories have hilarity to them even if they do involve murder. Kappy is a hoot. She tries so hard to follow the Ordung but her curiosity get her in scrapes every single time.

This is number three in the Amish Mystery series but each can be read as a stand-alone novel. As with any series, if you start with a book other than the first you will know the outcome of previous books. I would feel very comfortable giving this book, the entire series, to a teenager as a gift. There are no steamy romantic scenes, no offensive language and the murders that take place are nowhere near gory.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.

Kappy is the cap maker in her community. Women come from her community in order for her to make their caps. When Alma MIller, the Bishop's wife, is found after an "accident" and ends up in a coma, Kappy must put on her sleuth's cap and find out who would do such a thing. Could it be Frannie? The two women have a long standing feud about who's pie is the best. With her pie winning first prize at the fair, Frannie has finally come out on top. But with Alma's death, questions and accusations begin to swirl, Kappy and her outcast friend Edie must figure out exactly what Alma's last words mean. They must find the killer before more harm is done.
I love Kappy and Edie. Amy Lillard has created a fun cozy mystery series that everyone can enjoy. Her characters not only make us smile but laugh out loud. One would never suspect that Kappy and Edie would be so good at sleuthing. They balance one another in their friendship. Add in Jimmy, Edie's beloved younger brother, and you have a wonderful story with well written characters. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required. Pull up a chair and join Kappy, Edie, Jimmy and the dogs.

A good plot and very good characters are once again hampered by a whole lot of unnecessary dialogue. It just goes on and on. And on. But a nice, cozy mystery it is.

It's the third book I read in this series and think that each instalment is better than the previous.
I love Kappy and Edie, their relationship and I like the description of both Amish and Englischer communities.
The mystery was very good, I loved how was investigated and it kept me guessing.
This is a very good series and I look forward to reading the next instalment.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC

If you love cozy mysteries, you’ll enjoy these mysteries that revolve around Kappy King. This is the third book in the series, but it’s easy to quickly catch up with the characters and their stories. Kappy is such a fun character to follow, and she’s not your typical “Amish” character. She loves reading mysteries (especially Sherlock Holmes); learning a new word everyday from her “Word of the Day” calendar; and solving real life mysteries as they come her way. In this book, Kappy works together with her friends Edie and Jimmy to solve the murder of the Bishop’s wife. The mystery in this story was interesting and the answer was not obvious until the last chapter. Kappy and Edie usually don’t follow the methods of real detectives, but they always seem to be in the right (or sometimes wrong) place at the right time.

This is a clean and sweet story with no foul language. It’s the perfect book for when you want something a little lighter to read. Once you read this book, you’ll want to go back and read the other books in the series to catch up on Kappy’s adventures.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This is the 3rd book in this series that I have read. I definitely enjoyed them all. This was a light, happy and "cozy" mystery and kept my attention. Loved the interaction between Edie, the shunned Amish and Kappy, the Amish young woman. As the mystery enfolds, there are lots of odd clues to work with and to figure out.

It's a fun "who dun it" type book and a captivating one.

I received a copy from NetGalley and the author. All thoughts are my own.

Kappy is back! And so are Edie and Jimmy and Elmer. Oh, and Jack. This is a delightful light cozy series set in Amish country where you only THINK nothing bad ever happens but it surely does. In this outing (don't worry if you haven't read the preceding books!), Kappy and Edie investigate who bashed Alma, the bishop's wife and wonderful baker over the head. She didn't have any enemies, only a terrific recipe for boysenberry pie, and she left a message in the flour around her. These are wonderful characters- Jimmy is a new vegetarian, having learned where meat comes from, Jack the detective brings a great cake for dinner (hmmmm), and the various supporting cast are all people you can see in your minds eye. The mystery itself is a little twisty- I'll admit I sort of guessed where the issue lay but not the why, not the why at all. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This was a great read and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one!

Cute cozy mystery! This book is the third in the series but the first that I've read. I would encourage readers to read the first two in the series for a clearer understanding of events mentioned in this book. My favorite character is Jimmy, a delightful young man with Downs Syndrome. Solving mysteries is quite different for Amish fiction. Very enjoyable! Recommended!

Love me some Happy and Edie!

Amish life is a simple life, they aren’t violent and they live peacefully. But when the local Pie queen, and wife of Kappy’s Bishop is attacked and put into a coma, the message she left behind is to cryptic for the English police to figure out. But Kappy and Edie know the message means something and they’re going to figure it out, before an innocent woman is accused of murder.

Each book in the series is like a visit with old friends. Kappy is the level headed Amish woman who just happens to have an English friend that cares for her Amish special needs brother and those three are always up to something. Add the dark detective and Jack brings in a wholesome love interest while Kappy waits for one of two men in her Amish community to figure out what they want in life.

This a great series and I truly enjoy the time spent reading these books. The author truly brings her characters to life and I adore that she has brought a truly to life version of a young man with Downs Syndrome to the story. Thank you for another wonderful visit to Blue Sky, Pennsylvania.

This is my first book by Amy Lillard and I have to say that I love it. This cozy little Amish mystery was entertaining and the characters were very well done.

While this is the third book of the series, I didn't feel like I miss out on much and was able to get my bearings with the setting and characters fairly quickly. The story definitely had enough to stand on its on.

If you love Amish fiction and Cozy Mysteries, than this should be on your TBR pile. I highly recommend it.

This is third in a fun series about an unmarried Amish woman and her crime solving ways. The book hits just the right tone of snark, humor and solid mystery writing. The pie caper was clever and drew upon the idiosyncrasies of Plain communities. My only question is why the bishop tolerates Kappy’s closeness with Edie since she is shunned. I hope that gets addressed in a future book. I am a big fan of this series.,

5 stars

“Kathryn “Kappy” King’s skill at making kapps for the Amish women of Blue Sky, Pennsylvania, is unparalleled. But she’s also dangerously good at discovering dark truths beneath this peaceful valley.”
Kappy King and the Pie Kaper by Amy Lillard is the third installment in the Kappy King series. Lillard has developed a phenomenal Amish cozy mystery series which easily crosses multiple genres.

Kappy King books are like catching up with an old friend. I am always a little sad when I finish one, as I feel like I am saying goodbye to friends. Kappy and Edie are at it again. The oddball duo is trying to solve the attack on Alma, the bishops wife and award-winning pie maker. I just adore the combination of a single Amish woman, a shunned Amish woman and Jimmy, Edie’s special needs brother. As well as trying to solve the mystery, Kappy works on her vocabulary and Edie tries to let her brother Jimmy spread his wings a bit.

I highly recommend this series of books! Amy Lillard has written the books so each may be read independently of each other while still be part of a series.
