This is the second in the series. I hadn't read the first in the series and felt I could easily pick up the story as a stand-alone. I'm not a big fan of espionage, but this was okay.

When a mysterious DVD is delivered to Northumbria Police Headquarters, DS Matthew Ryan and Detective Superintendent Eloise O’Neil are among the few to view its disturbing content. With little to go on the only lead comes from the anonymous and chilling woman’s voice narrating the blood-soaked lock-up depicted on screen.

As further shocking videos start arriving at police stations around the country, the body count rises. But what connects all the victims? And why are they being targeted? As the investigation deepens, the team is brought to breaking point as secrets from the past threaten to derail their pursuit of a merciless killer . .

This is a follow-up book to The Silent Room, which I didn't know going into this story but I didn't feel lost at all. It was a great detective read, I'll have to look for the other one.

Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC!

The Death Messenger is a great police procedural by Hannah. Deeply engrossing and page turning! Worth the read.

The Death Messenger by author Mari Hannah is a dark and intense crime thriller that holds a lot of suspense between the pages! Characters are greatly built and the plot flows smoothly. Not too much fluff either!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of The Death Messenger in exchange for an honest review.

Detective Superintendent Eloise O’Neil and her DS, Matthew Ryan have received a DVD filled with images so graphic, so disturbing, that even they, as veteran cops are shocked. They have no idea where the images were shot and who the victim was, all they have is the voice of the woman describing the images on the DVD. And this is not the last DVD that’s made. Other police stations begin getting similar videos and as the police struggle to find a reason or a connection between victims, the bodies pile up. Hannah writes brutal, hard hitting crime fiction that her fans will eat up.
