Gildea is one of those authors whose books I buy just because it is them. The way Gildea writes makes history so accessible and interesting. Being able to educate in such an easily accessible manner is a skill I wish more historians would work at!

A timely work that reiterates the damage caused by colonialism, as well as pointing out that Colonialism did not actually die off, but rather changed its shape. Highly recommended for those interested in geopolitics, colonialsm and history

This was an informative book about empires and colonialism. This is a subject I’ve read briefly about but never in so much detail. I’ve learnt a lot

I wasn't crazy about this book. It is more politics informed by history than history informed by politics, and while I have a high threshold for the latter, the former grows thin pretty quickly.
