THE WISH is the first book in the Amish of Cedar Grove series, but I listened to The Hope first. There is no issue reading these books out of order. Laura Beth Yoder is an Amish widow who loved her husband very much but feels it’s time to move on. She is planning on fixing up her home and farm, selling it to move to Ohio to find a new husband, as there is no one in Cedar Grove that interests her. When a storm hits, a stranger driving through the area with is infant son, has an accident right by her farm. Heading over to see if she can help, she rescues both of them just before the car is washed away. Joshua is ex-Amishs, someone who turned his back on his faith at the young age of 17, when he ran away. He came from a dysfunctional family and never made peace with his past. Laura has dreamed of having a baby to love all of her life. Who is this stranger? What is he doing in Cedar Grove? Can this attraction Laura Beth feels toward Joshua and his son Caleb come to anything?

This was a beautiful story that I did not want to end, but also wanted to see how it ended. It evoked a lot of emotions, especially when Laura Beth was honest about her feelings of being a widow, this had me in tears. The relationships between the characters were wonderful. Laura Beth and her sister Sarah had a special relationship having lost their parents and only having each other. Laura Beth was more like a mother to Sarah, and Sarah, a daughter that doesn't always listen. Laura Beth and Joshua had an amazing relationship that grew and developed in a wonderful way. They slowly came to care for one another through looking after Caleb and the farm. Of course both of them felt that the relationship wouldn't work, so didn't want to reveal their feelings to the other. I enjoyed their banter and dialogue as they got to know one another better. This story is filled with humor, lost love, forgiveness, and second chances. I found myself cheering for Laura while she tried to help Joshua heal. Laura Beth is a person that thinks she knows what is best for everyone and that causes some angst, but it all works out. There is humour as well as heartbreak in this story. I loved it and do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance, Amish stories and second chance love stories.

Who are Laura Beth and Sarah? What does Laura Beth tell her best friend? After getting home as a big storm has started hitting, what happens? Who are Amy, Joshua, and Caleb? I like Sarah's spunk when she confronts Joshua. She's a spitfire! What does Joshua tell Sarah that surprises her? I enjoyed meeting Julie!! As Joshua and Laura Beth sit and talk to Julie, while Thomas fixes her lawn mower, we learn more about Amy. There were parts of this story that were hard to read because of their ssadness, but the rest of it was incredible! I love to read Amish inspired stories!!

When it is said that “God doesn’t make any mistakes”, it sure seems to apply to this story. When it seems that all in life that can go wrong does, and then impossible dreams begin to happen, do you walk away. Now that is the question that will be making you page turn, and sometimes as fast as you can.
We have offered to us a young woman who has the heart desire to become a mother, but the small town she lives in doesn’t have much to offer a widow.
Then the author gives us a troubled young widower whom has made some horrible decisions, in fact he has spent time in jail.
Will a very young baby be the catalyst to bring these two together, or will each go on with the chosen paths they have put their feet on.
I really enjoyed this different Amish story and found that some people are the same no matter where they live.

I received this book through Net Galley and the publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.

The Wish by Patricia Davids

The Wish by Patricia Davids is a lovely love story about someone who believes they are unlovable and a community that helps him realize where he needs to be. The Amish Community in Kansas has some different rules than other communities. In this one the Amish are allowed to use tractors and propane to heat and run their appliances.

Into the community of Cedar Grove comes Joshua King and his young son Caleb. A son he is bringing to his dead wife’s relatives to raise. A son he did not know about and believed his son would be safer and rained better by someone other than him.

Laura Beth heard the crash and pulled Joshua and his son from the wreck before the car washed down the river. She and her sister Sarah lived on a small farm and worked hard everyday to make ends meet. Laura Beth falls in love with Caleb and then with Joshua. But Joshua believes that his fate is not to stay and to give up his son.

The Wish is a lovely love story that reminds us second chances and unknown circumstances can change everything so quickly. Patricia David’s book, The Wish, is the first book in a series called “The Amish of Cedar Cove. It is a fast wonderful read.

This Amish novel is a little different from others that I've read. An Englisher, Joshua recently out of jail finds out that his estranged wife is dying and wants him to take their son to her parents but an accident occurs that has him and the baby living with an Amish family. Both Joshua and Amy, his wife come from an Amish background but left at an early age. This novel is about Joshua becoming to grips with his past and dealing with his future that may or may not include his son. My favorite character is Laura Beth because of her gentle spirit. I enjoyed her sister, Sarah trying to protect her older sister's reputation. Very enjoyable novel! Recommended!

Really enjoyed this book! My heart went out to Laura Beth immediately that she would go to such lengths to fulfil her dreams. Joshua took me a little longer to warm up to due to his abrasive personality. However, once I saw through the wall he tried so hard to build around his feelings, I began rooting for him to let go of himself and realize what he had! This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and a great read!

I enjoyed this story. I liked the characters of Joshua and Laura Beth, and thought the author did a great job of making their stories compelling reading. I wanted to keep reading until I’d finished the story to make sure they reached their happily-ever-after. This is a sweet, clean Amish romance that was enjoyable reading. I also learned some new things about how the differences of how the Amish live in Kansas

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

You know when you start a book that purports to be a romance that all will end well. What keeps you reading is how the ending gets there. Joshua crashes his car and is taken in by two Amish sisters. Their road is under water so he will wait until the river goes down, but the baggage he is carrying is almost too much to bear - an ex-convict, an infant son, and to top it off, raised Amish, but left many years ago. As the story progresses he falls in love with one of the sisters which is rather forbidden - he being Englisch and all. But to tell you more would ruin the book for you. it's well-written, believable and really rather good.
