Richard, the Earl of Hawkins, known to friends as Hawk has grown overwhelmingly border with life amongst to "ton". It's time to visit his cousin and best friend in the countryside. He blames himself for the death of his sister and has been restless ever since.
Miss Lizzy Moore escaped London and has been working as a governess for the last two years. She is happy to care for someone else's children since she is unlikely to have her own. Nobody can ever find out who she is or who her father was.
This is an exciting historical romance. The characters are fun and easy to get involved with. An independent and brave heroine and a suspicious and over protective hero. Just what I enjoy.
I loved it.

She loves what she’s doing in the people she works with. But hawk see something in here and finds the truth. Wonderful warm romance. Believable characters. Danger and mystery. I am a sucker for any story with the Home Office or spies so this story definitely appealed to me. I was looking forward to Hawk’s story and it does not disappoint. Hawk is a guy I would describe as a guy’s guy. He knows what he wants and does not hesitate to act on it but he also has a vulnerable side. Loved Lizzie. She is her own woman and even through Hawk tries to take over her life she stands her ground. You go, girl! Their interactions are sweet and sexy and just a fun read.

So, I think Campbell is up next. Yay!

I received this novel from Net Galley for free. A fast and fun read! A great story of two strong people, Hawk and Lizzie, falling in love. I enjoyed reading it!

I have read several romances by this author, both western and regencies, and this one struck me for its different voice. It has an element of suspence that the others lacked and it did add an interesting and unusual element to the romance. I still prefer romances where the development of feelings takes more stage than other features, but this one showed enough balance between romance and suspence plot to still find it pleasant to read.

There were a couple of books by Callie Hutton that I really loved and read several times and then there were some that I didn't like so I thought long and hard whether I wanted to read this book or not. It sounded very tempting but I was worried that I wouldn't like it. Well, I needn't have worried at all. I read this book in one sitting and really enjoyed the story.

When Hawk meets his friends' governess, he slowly but irresistibly falls in love with her while starting to question everything he knows about her story. Elizabeth, on the other hand, knows exactly to whom she is talking and she just hopes that he doesn't find out who she really is. Alas, that wish isn't granted and Hawk has to think long and hard where his loyalties lie when he gets an order to bring her to London to be interviewed at the Home Office in relation to her father's crimes against the crown. When Lizzie is attacked and it becomes obvious that someone tries to kill her though, his protective side gets the upper hand and he'll go as far as he has to in order to keep her safe - even if that means leading her to the altar...

Romance, murder and treason - this book has it all and some. There are the sparks and the suspense, the swooning and the fury - I really enjoyed reading this book!

When Elizabeth’s father confesses of his treasonous activities and is caught, Lady Elizabeth is aghast & flees London when she finds herself under suspicion of colluding with her father. With the help of a friend she goes incognito & is hired i as a governess to her young children of the Earl of Wycliff’s children.
After 2 years of successfully being invisible, one of her majesty’s agents who so happens to be looking for her pays a visit to the Earl. Each find themselves drawn, Lizzie knows who Hawk is of course, having been introduced to him before when she was enjoying her season. Hawk realizes quite early that Lizzie is not your normal governess, with her refined manners and deportment & is quite taken with the lovely and spirited young lady.
Once Hawk learns who Lizzie is, he becomes fiercely protective of her especially when attempts on her life are made. I liked how he realizes that they will sometimes clash due to his over protectiveness and her spirit – and relishes the idea of making up! The ending was terribly rushed tho and lacking. Still Quite a good read overall.

This is the fifth book in the series and the third I’ve read so far. If you haven’t read the third book in the series, Denying the Duke, I suggest you do so before jumping into this one. The villain from book three left behind a daughter, Lady Elizabeth Munro. After his deeds were exposed, Lizzie fled with the help of a friend and became a governess under the alias of Lizzie Moore.

When her employers cousin, the dashing Lord Hawkins, visits, Lizzie is terrified he might recognize her from their one dance during her first season. Hawk is drawn to Lizzie immediately, but doesn’t remember her outside of her current position. Lizzie relaxes a little, but an attempt on her life sends both her and Hawk’s lives into an intertwined spiral that won’t stop until a traitor is found.

Hutton takes us on another journey into romance and peril. Hawk is dynamic but flawed, making him more real than your average hero. Lizzie is incredibly resilient after all that Hutton puts her through. Hutton puts Lizzie through her paces as she struggles to survive falling in love while fighting for her life.

You know how people sometimes scream at the TV? I was screaming at this book at times when Hutton threw one curve ball after another. But you know I loved it and I’m sure the historical romance lover in you will too!

I received this book for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

A beautiful London socialite goes to hide in the country as a plain Jane governess. She meets a handsome yet roguish earl, which leads to a match of wits and romance! Seeds of distrust and pride could cause this all to unravel! Overall, a very enjoyable and slightly steamy read!

I am giving a fair and honest review in return for being allowed to read this ARC. Treason, intrigue, attempted murder and an undeniable draw between two people. Well told story.

Traitors, Attempted Murder and Passion.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. After her traitorous father fled England, Lady Elizabeth (Lizzie) Munro found herself in desperate straits but a friend helped her to find a governess post under an assumed name and for the past two years she has a comfortable and satisfying job with the Earl and Countess of Wycliff. Unfortunately that all changes with the visit of the Earl’s cousin; suddenly she finds her life is in danger and that she is attracted to a man who feels “responsible” for her! Highly recommended.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lord Hawkins is dissatisfied with his indulgent lifestyle. He’s been drinking and bedding women because he feels guilty about his role in his sister’s death. He is also occasionally an agent of the Home Office. Lizzie is a governess who works for Hawk’s cousin and is actually Lady Elizabeth who is in hiding. Lizzie’s father was a traitor who was captured and killed by Home Office agentis two years ago; Hawk was involved in the operation. What a coincidence when Hawk decides to visit his cousin, falls in lusts with Lizzie (and since he’s handsome, the feeling is mutual) and then when he discovers who she really is, receives orders to bring Lizzie back to London for questioning.

There was nothing about Hawk (including his name) that was appealing. Although Lizzie can be admired for being a good governess for the ideal family, she too isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. Nothing new about the dialogue, the espionage storyline was blah, the romance and sex were formulaic.

I enjoyed this book. I’m a mood reader and sometimes I’m in the mood for some classically melodramatic romance fun and this one checked off all of those boxes for me. Sometimes a little ‘somewhat over-the-top’ romance reading is just what the doctor ordered and Captivating the Earl will give that to you.

I would have liked to see a bit more going on in terms of dialogue and character interactions. I like a good dose of witty banter and back-and-forth. Because that’s the spark, you know? So sometimes the dialogue fell a bit flat for me with this book. There were also a few times the hero’s over-protectiveness was kind of annoying. But the heroine eventually calls him out for it so that mollified me somewhat. On a positive note, I thought the intimate moments in this book were pretty well-done…a little bit of heat and a whole lot of sweet.

But, again, this book is good old fashioned romance fun. It’s the fifth book in a series called Lords and Ladies in Love and it releases on November 12, 2018. I am looking forward to reading the previous books in this series.

Very enjoyable story. Lots of twists and turn. Callie Hutton has been a favorite of mine since I started reading her stories. I don't think there was any part of this one I didn't like. Definitely recommend.

The romance between Lizzie and Hawk built quite quickly. He realised fairly early on that Lizzie wasn't the woman she portrayed. The tension increased with the various attempts on her life. About 90% of the book was about the budding romance and Hawk's realisation that this woman was a keeper. I looked down at my knidle and thought how in the small space left are they going to resolve the mystery...so the final denouement I thought was a bit rushed. This is the only story in the series I have read and can easily be read as a standalone. I haven't got a burning desire to read the others. I thought the cover was very lovely.

This was a very entertaining and fun read. The heroine is a plucky ton miss who has renamed herself and become governess to the children of an Earl. Unfortunately, his best friend visits, and is informed by the Home Office that the governess is the daughter of a traitor, now dead, and he is to return her to London immediately.
When her life is threatened several times, he elects to take her to his estate in the country, and finds his initial attraction to her growing. I’ve enjoyed several of the books Hutton has written, and this was equally good. Will definitely read more.

This is a very well written, entertaining and intriguing story. Hawk, a known rake, meets Lizzie, governess to his cousin’s children and he is instantly intrigued by her. Even though she is a governess, Hawk believes there is more to her than that as she is too well educated to be a vicar’s daughter as she claims. He later finds out that she is the daughter of an earl who had been charged with treason. As they grow closer, attempts are made on her life and he determines the only way to keep her safe is by marrying her. There is a HEA to this story but before that happens Lizzie’s life is threatened again and it is hard to determine who the actual threat is coming from. This is a great read and I would highly recommend it.

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
Secrets, mystery, and romance come together is this novel by Ms. Hutton. Lady Elizabeth Munro has been in hiding since discovering the truth about her father's misdeeds and the Home Office. She has gone under the identity of Miss Lizzie Moore, a governess. She enjoys making decisions for herself and tries to avoid members of the ton who could recognize her. Lord Richard, the Earl of Hawkins, has finally decided to visit his cousin's estate. He carries much guilt with him and is dissatisfied with his life. He also has no desire to marry. He is immediately captivated by his cousin's governess, yet there is something familiar about her. As Lizzie and Hawk get to know each other, the past rears its ugly head. After an attempt on Lizzie's life, Hawk receives information about her true identity and orders from the Home Office. However, Hawk is very protective and has his own plans, one which is making Lizzie his wife. Lizzie does not want to be anyone's "duty" and refuses Hawk at first. Both are falling in love with each other, but they still clash over Lizzie's choices to find the traitor and Hawk's reason for his protectiveness. To ferry out the traitor, choices will be made that will impact Lizzie and Hawk's relationship.
