Probably the Best Kiss in the World by Pernille Hughes is a cute romantic comedy. I really wanted to love this book, but honestly I did not like the main character Jen Attison. I was hoping to warm up to her, but I didn't. I also disliked her fiance Robert too. I did enjoy how everything turned out in the book, and will be giving this author another try.

I went into this expecting a carefree romance and it delivers on that with an unexpected level of depth. The plot is predictable but the characters were so genuine that it seems realistic.

The protagonist is the stereotypical lead that leads a boring life but then meets a hot stranger and of course, things start getting more exciting from there. It took me a while but I really liked the character by the end and rooted for her.

I really liked also that it wasn't just that she met a cute guy and everything in her life changed. Jen's dreams and her other relationships are a big part of the story. It didn't really feel like just a romance story but rather a life story.

If you are a fan of romance or comedy, then I think you will definitely enjoy this book!

A very funny and breezy romance novel to read on your summer vacation. Read this while i was visiting my home country and finished it in two sittings!

I unexpectedly really enjoyed this book! I'm not at all a sucker for romance in books, but this adorable feel-good rom-com worked for me and here's why:

It's not just about the love story. The romance is there, it's cute and well-written (aka not cringy), but the book covers so much more than that. I would say the main topics are family and friend relationships, grief and dealing with it, personal development and of course love. I was especially interested in the author exploring the connection between grief and family ties and how it impacts life decisions and forming new relationships. I think the author did the issue justice and didn't just use it as a filler for romance, which I appreciated.

The characters. The main character Jen is flawed and even a tad problematic in some cases (which obviously was intentional), but we get to see the why behind her feelings and actions or rather what it was that enabled them and throughout the book she gets called-out on them, learns valuable life lessons and achieves great character development. I especially enjoyed reading about Lydia, Jen's sister (BTW- disability rep!), her character was well developed and refreshing.

The romance. It was beautiful, based on mutual passions, support and chemistry, all of which I really enjoyed. And none of cringy and unrealistic sex scenes, thank you very much. The realistic build up of relationship had me swooning and rooting for the couple all the way.

Then why is it not a five star?- you might wonder. The story felt a bit slow or dragged out at times, but this is me nitpicking, the book is perfect for summer and if the topics listed interest you, I really recommend it.

The first few pages of this book I was NOT into at all but as soon as I got past that I settled into the story comfortably. I can't think of another character that I have loathed more than Robert. Which is good, because you're not supposed to like him, but man was he a well written antagonist. It felt a bit predatory, almost like he groomed her, swooping in as hero at her moment of grief and taking over. As for Jen I went back and forth between annoyance and pity for her. The thing that probably annoyed me most is how much I relate to her. Its so easy to let fear and trauma control you, so her staying in a safe, boring relationship wasn't too surprising, and neither was her obsession with lists and planning. It was like looking in a mirror., which I wasn't expecting from a rom-com.. Ouch. Thank goodness for her tribe for forcing her out of her comfort zone, or else she would have missed out on Probably The Best Kiss Ever. The plot was simple and predictable, but in a good way, like a Hallmark Movie. I loved that her passion in life was beer and brewing, it was a refreshing and unexpected perspective for chick lit!

I can usually tell within the first chapter if I'm going to enjoy a book and being honest I was put off by the first chapter of this book, it's probably a bit prim but the swearing put me off. As I had generously been given this book in exchange for my opinion I persevered and I am so glad that I did! I ended up loving it!

With a title like Probably the Best Kiss in the World and a cover that puts the novel firmly in the chick lit category I was expecting a cheesy holiday romance. But there is so much more to this book. I'd say that the main storyline of the book is Jen being at a cross roads in her life. Following an intervention of sorts by her sister and friends she is given the opportunity to see what her life could be like. Yes of course there is a romance or three, there are hilarious situations that are so ridiculous they would probably happen and, unusually for this genre, a lot of beer. But there are real issues too; trying to live up to your families' expectations, loosing your parents, dealing with life changing injuries and security vs. your dreams.

If you are tempted at all by this book, as I was, pick it up. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Eine schöne Überraschung

Das Buch hat mich zunächst wegen des schönen Covers und der interessanten Zusammenfassung angesprochen. Mit den ersten Kapiteln hatte ich dann aber leider so meine Probleme. Zunächst bin ich mit Jen, der weiblichen Hauptfigur, überhaupt nicht warm geworden. Ich war frustriert von ihren Aktionen und davon, wie passiv sie in ihrer Beziehung war und wie sie ihre Schwester teil bevormundete. Ich war daher schon nah daran das Buch wegzulegen und nicht weiter zu lesen, dann aber gab es eine Wendung im Buch, die mich gepackt hat und dazu geführt hat, dass ich bis nachts um 23:30 Uhr aufgeblieben bin, um das Buch zu Ende zu lesen. Denn danach hat die Geschichte richtig an Fahrt aufgenommen und Jen hat sich zu einem Charakter entwickelt, den ich ins Herz geschlossen habe. Auch hat die Geschichte im Verlauf an Tiefe gewonnen, was mir sehr gutgefallen hat. Ich hatte ja zunächst eine lockere, vor allem amüsante Liebesgeschichte erwartet, war dann von der Entwicklung aber sehr positiv überrascht.

Im Buch kommt übrigens eine Konstellation vor, mit der ich sonst enorme Probleme habe. Hier hat es für mich aber gepasst und ich konnte damit überraschend gut leben.

Wer ein Buch sucht, in dem zum einem eine schöne Liebesgeschichte im Fokus steht, aber vor allem auch die Entwicklung der weiblichen Hauptfigur, der kann mit diesem Buch viel Spaß haben.

This was such a great find, a diamond in the rough. I sooooo enjoyed these characters and this storyline. It was smart, so well written, a solid romance. I loved it.

This is such a cute romance novel by Pernille Hughes. It features strong-willed characters, a love triangle and a lot of beer talk. The main character is Jen - a type A woman and brewing enthusiast who unconventionally has 'probably the best kiss in the world' while in Copenhagen on her hen do. Following on from this life-changing event, Jen struggles with deciding what to do with her life - stay in her relationship with her fiance that doesn't treat her like an equal, become partner at a business she isn't passionate about, or follow her passion? I loved that this book wasn't a totally conventional romance novel, thanks to Jen's brewing storyline and her relationship with a Dane. Highly recommend this novel to all fellow romance fans.

I'm on the fence with how I feel about this one because there were obviously things that I really enjoyed but also things I strongly disliked, and I"m not sure which one is winning my feelings right now. I'm ngl, the cover is what had me picking this book up because the colors are fun and the design is super cute. It gives me cozy vibes and to an extent that does match with the contents of the book. I also love the title! The story and the romance wasn't anything new, and wasn't entirely unpredictable, but I liked the setting and the general storyline. Minor spoiler alert for the content ahead as there's a part of the storyline that I'm just never going to get on board with and that's cheating. But first, let's start with what I liked.

Likes:
I really enjoyed the banter between Jen and Yacob and their meet-cute was, well, cute. I thought they were good together and I really wish that the story of how they met was different. I think the side characters really stole the show for me. Lydia, the MC's sister was a daredevil and go-getter who didn't let her disability hold her back in anyway. She was feisty and full of humour and I kind of wished that the story was about her. Alice and Max were also great supporting characters and their shop sounded really cool. It would also be remiss of me to not mention the hot Danish man! Yacob was honestly the perfect package -- smart, handsome, compassionate, and caring. I love how he was so supportive of Jen's passion and always encouraged her to never give up. Can has Yacob in my life, plz? Another thing I loved was loved Jen's passion -- The Passion. Jen's enthusiasm and love for brewing and beer shone strongly through the words of the text and it was wonderful to experience. I can absolutely relate because reading is something I'm super passionate about and when you really love something, it shines through. I'm glad she stood up for what she loved to do and didn't give it up (for a man no less!) and I enjoyed that she didn't let the fact that she was one of the few women who brew, stop her from winning. Go girl!

Dislikes:
Cheating. As someone who has been cheated on, I don't support characters who do this for whatever reason and it's always gonna be a turn off, and it's enough to make books lose stars. Despite knowing that it would be wrong and claiming that she isn't a cheater, the MC went and did it anyway. I personally thought she had absolutely no good reason to do what she did and it was inexcusable. She had every out, especially with everyone telling her the fiancé shouldn't be her fiancé, and because even her subconscious was rebelling against the engagement! I just wish she would've been honest. Admittedly, I also wasn't the biggest fan of Jen, especially at the start. She was obstinate and overbearing, especially with her sister and especially when it came to beer. It's one thing to have an opinion but it's another to be as rude with it as she was.

Although the story wasn't what I expected, especially the beer part, I'm glad that I did read it. Parts of it were cute, but overall, it wasn't anything new to me or the romance genre. I wish that there wasn't any cheating but, oh well. One thing I do know is that now I want to drink all the craft beers I can get my hands on!

Probably the best rom-com I've read this year!

Just like brewing beer, a good romantic comedy requires a mix of great ingredients. In this case, the author has created probably the perfect blend of characters. (And, yes, I will probably overuse the word probably in this review - but that's probably a good thing, right?)

So, we have a reluctant leading lady in Jen Attison. As a list-maker myself, I can relate to her organisation prowess, although she definitely has better 'follow-through' skills than I do. Jen is - or so she thinks - content with her lot, and would happily continue with her job, her brewing, and her relationship with Robert ...unless something out of the blue happens. Luckily for Jen, it does.

Enter our leading man (Move over Robert!) in the form of Yakob (as he is known for most of the book).

While Jen might be sceptical and wary of romance, Yakob most certainly isn't. He knows when he's found the one for him. The trouble lies in convincing Jen too. Added to the fact that she is engaged to Robert - and Jen is nothing if not loyal - then any relationship with Yakob is out of the question.

To be honest, sometimes I wanted to scream at Jen, and tell her to put herself first for a change. But there's no telling some people. Well, unless you have a sister like Lydia. Where Yakob fails to convince Jen of anything, Lydia charges like a bull in a china shop, determined to make her big sister see beyond her so-called duties and responsibilities. You see, Jen feels she has to protect Lydia (for reasons why, you'll need to read the book ;) LOL), add that to the fact that she has already accepted Robert's proposal and couldn't possibly let him down (cue screaming from me!), and Jen is bogged down by a sense of loyalty and duty. Probably not the most ideal mindset with which to enter into marriage!

Jen digs her heels in (she gives "stubborn" a whole new meaning), a move that threatens her relationship with Lydia - something she could never, ever have foreseen. Could her sense of duty ruin everything? Does she really want to marry Robert? Could she settle for a life without brewing her wonderful, artisan beers?

Jen may well be the main character in this story, but without Lydia, Yakob, and even Robert's family, she wouldn't be able to carry the story. She is well meaning, but somewhat smothering towards Lydia; at work, she's dismissive of her bosses (Robert's sisters) and a little condescending of their ideas (well, crocheted tampons are real ;) so maybe they're not as ridiculous as Jen might think). Yet, despite having control-freak tendencies, she seems to fall apart when Robert maps out their future, one in which her brewing passion is denigrated to hobby status at best. Where did the real Jen go? Well, it took a dip in a canal in Copenhagen to start the process, and a few secrets to railroad it too.

This is a story filled with humour, emotion, travel, drama, and beer. The romance aspect is slow burning in nature, and there are plenty of twists in the tale as the story develops. A great summer read that I'd recommend to rom-com fans who are looking for originality, fun, family, and a HEA - probably!

I liked this book and I liked that the main character had an unusual hobby-cum-job but I found her annoying and overbearing. I do love this author and her style of writing, however, so I just had to grin and bear it.

Thank you Netgalley for approving me of this title in exchange for an honest review but I actually didn’t read this one I accidentally requested it and got auto approved. The idea sounds cute but I just don’t have time to read it.

I loved this book. It was funny and heartbreaking and I also learnt a surprising amount about beer in the process! The cast of supporting characters are brilliant and varied and are very entertaining in their own right. I will definitely be looking out for more titles from this author and recommending it to other like minded readers.

A good rom-com, not my kind of funny through.

The start of the book was dull and slow. The characters were all over the place. Jen was not compelling enough and I did not like the fact that she cheated. Lydia was the standout character and I wish this were her love story rather then Jen's. I did like the fact that Jen did not give up on her passion and the in the end she got her HEA.

I thought this was going to be along the same lines as a lot of other rom-coms. I was pleasantly surprised by the differences.

Jen has been responsible for the care of her younger sister since a horrific accident had left them without their parents. Because of this Jen has become a chronic over planner and is stuck in a rut with her ‘nice’ yet predictable boyfriend Robert.

While on her hens do Jen falls into a canal and is rescued by a tall blonde stranger who she feels an instant connection to. Can Jen break free of the micro managed world she has created for herself and open her heart to follow her passion?

I absolutely loved the cover of this book and that’s why I picked it up and it didn’t disappoint AT ALL.

Three stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
