Brilliant story line about two friends. The children get on and slowly lives intertwine - but how close is too close.

One woman’s search to piece together missing moments

Definitely worth reading

This was a thrilling read, and kept me entertained until the end. I see now that it has been developed into a TV series, I will have to go and watch that now! Recommended.

Too Close by Natalie Daniels is a gripping psychological thriller about a woman who finds herself in a psychiatric facility accused of the most horrific crimes but she doesn't remember a thing.

Unfortunately I struggled through this book. It started off really well for me but after a few chapters it just went a bit crazy and I struggled to follow it.

I really enjoyed this book and I did not want this to end, a real page turner. A book everyone should read.

A good read, but unfortunately it did not capture my attention as much as I hoped it would.

The story itself is good, but I wonder if it was just the wrong book for me. Everyone else seems to have really enjoyed it. I blame the pandemic for lack of concentration.... :-)

Overall I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the story line albeit a bit dark. I would recommend this book.

Read Nov 18

I thought that this was an interesting book, but it seemed confused in places. I really liked Connie and definitely sympathised with her. I enjoyed the fact that the story was revealed slowly although the differing points of view were slightly confusing, and I wasn’t sure as to the relevance of Dr. R’s (Emma) chapters.

It seemed a part of Connie’s hospital stay and seeing Emma was to judge if she was fit to stand trial but then that wasn’t mentioned. She had a diagnosis slapped on her and then the book kind of ended rather weakly. I also didn’t feel like the daughter’s diary added much beyond a vague connection to home for Connie.

I am so annoyed with myself for leaving this book in my 'To Be Read' pile for too long. I have been engrossed for the last two days and believe this is a book that is going to stay with me. It is really well written and builds into an intriguing and compelling story.
The characters (particularly the two main women) are believable and I found myself caring about them and wanting them to find some peace and closure.
The way that the children were portrayed was particularly impressive. Despite the drama and tension, the antics of the young girls (and the additions of Annie's diary) were excellent and even had me chuckling.
I couldn't fault either the plot or the character development and I definitely recommend this book. I will be reading more from Natalie Daniels.
Thank you to the author, #NetGalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read and review #TooClose. I can only apologise that I am a year late with this review. I somehow think that Connie would understand...

An interesting debut for Natalie Daniels, I was intrigued to know what on earth had happened to land Connie in a psychiatric hospital. The description of the novel was perfect, but the headline not so true I'm afraid. I launched into this mystery thriller, and was engaged enough to see it all the way through, but I'm afraid I was not captivated in the manner of some books that you really can't put down. It took weeks to plough through the stories of Connie & Emma, and I was more swept up and curious the further I got.

But by the last chapters, and the final outcome, sadly I felt disappointed. Was that it? I wouldn't have categorised it as a thriller since it lacked urgency. I enjoyed both central characters, but expected more, more depth to the peripheral characters, a twist at the climax, more of the unexpected, but it did not come. I was left at the final chapter with "Oh. Is that it."

I'd conclude this is a slow burner that if you like a little intrigue, you may well like it, but it won't rock your world at the end.

I really enjoyed this book! Will admit I kept putting it off for some reason but once I started I just couldn't put it down.
I absolutely loved the relationship between Connie and her physiatrist Emma, a fabulous dark, disturbing plot that kept me intrigued throughout.5 stars!

I thought this was a great book. A really relevant and pertinent commentary on modern life and the pressure involved in maintaining the right image to the outside world, whatever is happening on the inside. I had a huge amount of sympathy for Constance. Despite everything she came across as warm, intelligent and loyal. The kind of woman I would love to have as a friend. Dr. R was also an engaging and credible character. She and Constance were wonderful together. I raced through the book, every page was full of humanity, flaws and all. A totally brilliant ending was the icing on the cake. I'll be looking for more by Natalie Daniels. I'm thrilled to discover Too Close is available on Audible; can't wait to listen. Bravo!

*thank you to Netgalley, Natalie Daniels and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers from a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

DNF.

This is my first time DNFing a Netgalley/ARC book. But for personal/mental health reasons, I found this book to be too triggering to continue. I thank the author and publishing company for giving me a copy of this and do apologise. I will add that I love the cover though (the coffee cups version).

A fascinating story about human relationships and how exterior factors can turn something positive into negative. Definitely recommended to those readers who enjoy reading this type of book.

I received a digital arc of #TooClose from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I had rather a back log of books to read so it has taken a few months to get around to reading it.

This was my first encounter with the work of Natalie Daniels and I was not disappointed. Although it was a slow burner to start with, the pace soon speeds up and I found myself wanting to know more. The book sets out a lot of questions that need answering - what happened? Why is Connie in the psychiatric unit being assessed by a psychiatrist? What went so horribly wrong in her life to put her there? Why do people seem scared of her? Why is she known as yummy monster? What happened between her and Karl? How did her friendship with Ness change so dramatically? Does she really not remember what happened or is she fooling everyone?

The book shows insights into the past few months of Connie's life, via emails that she sends to her psychiatrist. These emails detail the events leading up to whatever horrible event took place to lead to her being where she is now. There are also chapters giving us insight into the personal life of Emma, Connie's psychiatrist, and also chapters written in the present time, detailing Connie's experiences and assessments inside the unit. We also read diary excerpts from Connie's daughter Annie which gives another perspective of the time leading up to the incident

This was a good read although I wasn't completely hooked initially. It did take a while to get into, and I was left a little deflated by the ending. I don't know what I was expecting but it seemed to fall short a little for me. There was no major twist like I was expecting. Everything was easily forgiven - although maybe that's just her way of healing and moving on. Definitely worth a read though.
