We follow Connie as she works with her psychiatrist to piece together what happened. What has happened to her family? And what has happened to Ness?

This is a story that tangles together friendship, deceit and mental illness. I do not feel it is accurate to describe this story as a thriller. You quickly understand the outcome - you just do not understand how or why it happened.

By seeing inside the mind of Connie, I got a breathtaking insight into the impacts stresses and betrayals can have on mental health. And how quickly this can deteriorate.

Some of my favourite parts of the story were the chapters seen from the point of view of the psychiatrist. She had plenty of her own issues going on and this soon impacts her work with Connie. This adds a really interesting narrative and meant I never got bored of the main storyline.

I highly recommend giving this a read. But I would recommend not expecting a typical psychological thriller - it goes much deeper than that.

Not a book a would usually select, however I could not put it down. Not a thriller but a dark story about mental illness. The protagonists are not particularly likeable but they do evoke some sympathy for their situation. A good read.

I got this book for honest review from netgalley- it was in the mystery and thriller section- but what I read can't really be categorised into mystery? Or even thriller?

This book is mostly a tale of mental illness- which still remained at the end of the book very unexplored or explained.

The writing style was decent- which is why I awarded it 2.5 stars- but if i was rating the story on it's own merit- I would rate this 1 to 1.5 stars.

Connie is in the hospital- they are saying she's done something terrible but she can't remember what- so the book is mainly flashbacks of what lead all these things to happen.

Also we're given glimpses into her psychiatrists life and past (to be honest this added nothing to the story)

It's only towards the very back of the story that Connie goes into further detail or starts to recall and explain what she did and why she did it- the lead up to the main event was extremely long winded and dragged out.

Had the writing style not been as good as it was I probably wouldn't have finished this book- I did finish but felt unsatisfied in the end.

It took me a while to get into this book but from about half way in it picked up for me.
None of the characters are particularly likeable but it’s like watching a car crash in slow motion and you need to see what happens

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a strange book to read and yet it kept the reader captivated and wanting to read more. I found the women’s relationships very interesting and when Connie suffers her ‘ breakdown’ and turns into The Yummy Mummy, things move quickly to the dark side of life, relationships, love and death.
I found the book fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
Highly recommended.

I was a bit skeptical that I'll like this book after reading the first few chapters but I'm glad I didn't abandon it. Despite my earlier reservation, I find myself deeply engrossed in Connie's plight. What horrible thing could she possibly done that put her in the psychiatric ward and yet not remember anything about it? I was even surprised that I like it more than I expected. Connie and Emma are both engaging characters but it is Connie's story that gripped me until the end. Definitely an impressive read.

This is one hell of a read.

The blurb already tells us that something bad has happened. Something terrible.

And Connie is now in a psychiatric hospital being drugged up to the eyeballs remembering nothing.

But we get to know the character Connie and like her psychiatrist we learn there’s more depth to her.

But what about Ness.
Ness she met in the park one day, they clicked and became good friends. When Ness marriage breaks down its reasonable for her to turn to Connie isn’t it?
But Ness seems to be in Connie house more than she’d like giving less and less time for Connie and her husband.

I especially liked the forming relationship between the physiatrist, she herself had her own problems.

This was a flippin’ Good read. I’d have finished this sooner but for it being the week of Christmas and no time to myself.
It’s my birthday tomorrow (31st) so today I’ve had time to myself as the family have been out.

I’ve loved everything in this book.
It’s not exceptionally fast paced more consistently opening a readers thoughts about it along the way which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Great book by a great author.

Thank you Bookoutour and Net Galley

A brilliant read, totally harrowing in places, but a story told about mental illness and how extreme to can affect a perfectly sane person, some great characters, Connie is brilliant, really enjoyed it

An enjoyable read - like others, it didn't go quite where I thought it would but that's a good thing - it was a bit different to my usual reads but it was extremely well written. I have to say I didn't really like any of the characters but that didn't spoil my enjoyment. Recommended.

I read this in one sitting. An interesting consideration of mental illness, misuse of medication and irresponsible prescribing, and featuring the most unprofessional psychiatrist ever, who is human nonetheless.

This was a great book.

I loved the relationship between Ness and Connie. They meet in the park with their girls and soon become firm friends helping each other through the trials that life throws at you, but do they get too close and can they stay friends?

You meet Connie when she is in hospital, through sessions with her psychiatrist you find out what has happened for Connie to be there.

Its an interesting way to tell the story and I was absorbed in Connie’s story.

I really enjoyed #TooClose although it isn’t the book I expected it to be.

Ness and Connie become best friends and their lives are completely meshed together, their kids are best friends, their partners play golf together, and they love going on rambling walks together. I thought this book would concentrate on how their relationship becomes ‘too close’, sort of a psychological thriller when Connie realises that Ness is stealing her life but every one else is oblivious; but actually Connie wakes up in a mental health unit with no memory of how she became sectioned.

Emma, her psychiatrist, allows Connie to get under her skin, and Emma’s life suddenly doesn’t seem so stable and happy anymore.

Finding out what Connie did is horrific, and I was unable to put this book down.

Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for my free copy in exchange for an unbiased review.

I wasn’t sure this was going to be my kind of book. How wrong I was! I was absolutely drawn in to it. What superb insights into mental illness.

When the teller of the tale is in a psychiatric facility with great gaps in her memory, scars & bald patches you know that the book is going to be a bit unusual!

Gradually the story of happily married Connie with her handsome husband & two children is shaken to its foundations. Her best friend, Ness is not the friend she thought she was. Her reaction to this when she was already emotionally fragile is extreme. Why can't she remember what she did?

Her psychiatrist tries to get to the root of Connie's behaviour before she comes to trial but Connie has a way of getting under her skin. Soon it is not just Connie who is struggling to make sense of her life.

I find this a bit of a difficult book to review. I had to keep reading as I wanted to know the full story but at the same time it was a bit like watching a disaster unfold. If I could I'd give this 3.5 stars but I can't quite bring it up to a 4.

Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

Honestly I found this book a bit of a struggle to begin with. In fact I was pretty much traumatised by a section of the book referring to the tv programme 'Embarassing Bodies'. However once I reached the halfway point I found the book began to speed up and gain more pace.

Friends Connie and Ness do everything together and share every intimate detail of their lives with each other. But when Connie realises that they are sharing much more than she had realised her life quickly begins to spiral out of control and she finds herself detained under the Mental Health Act. However, with her actions being so completely dramatic she has lost all memory of her deterioration or how she ended up in hospital. Fast forward several months later and Connie finds herself under a psychiatrist called Emma. Can Emma unlock Connie's memories and will Emma be able to forget her own past tragedies to help Connie out.

Overall a good read but slightly so to begin with.

A good, dark thriller told from several view points. I liked Connie and Anna's relationship a lot. Definitely a good one for someone who likes psychological thrillers.

Not at all what I expected. Dark and disturbing but strangely compulsive, an interesting debut novel.

Brilliant debut novel, will be looking out for more titles by her.connie and Emily become intertwined by circumstances. What different lives they have led. Connie really doesn't know how she ended up in the physiatrist hospital, only talking to Emily does it all fall into place.
