While inspecting the repairs to the ranch guest house Garrett witnesses a man with a gun forcing a woman to go with him. Due to his distance from the couple he fires a warning shot and then hears four shots in a row. Believing the man has killed the woman he calls the Sheriff for help but when they search, they find the woman has disappeared and the man dead.

Later that evening the Sheriff is investigating a car crash where the occupant is a woman. He asks Garrett to come to the hospital to see if she is the same woman he saw earlier that night. When Garrett arrives, he is surprised to find that she is Joslyn, the only woman he has ever loved who disappeared 18 months earlier. She is claiming she has amnesia, but he knows that she recognized him. Garrett has a lot of questions and Joslyn fears for her life, but will they be able to find out who is behind the attempts on her life before it is too late?

This is a second chance at love story that features an intriguing storyline filled with suspense and twists.

Luck of the Draw by BJ Daniels was the second book in the series Sterling’s of Montana. In this installment of the series (which can be read as a stand alone) the main characters is Garrett. After checking out the construction at the Sterling Guest Ranch, Garrett is out riding when he sees a crime. Since the distance is too far to get to the victim in time, he shoots off his gun and startles the situation. Suprisingly, after calling the sheriff and investigating, Garrett realizes he has saved a women from his past. A woman who ran out on him without a word. How did Joslyn get to this place?

Garret swore there was a murder across the way but it was pretty far, maybe he didn’t see the man drag a woman and hear four shots fired. Garret was surprised that the woman looked a lot like the woman he loved who left him without an explanation.
When Joslyn comes to in a hospital bed she can’t remember what happened but when she sees that handsome face of Garret Sterling she remembered why she came.
Before Joslyn or Garret can basically discuss anything they have to figure out who is trying to kill Joslyn if she could remember who she is.
This story keeps you hopping as the story is unfolding and your always on edge wondering whose going to die and who wants them dead. Garret is the perfect guy who just wants answers Joslyn leaves you unsure of what she is planning great whodunnit story.

Warning to potential readers--this is exciting--too exciting for multiple episodes of nibbling at the story. You'll want to take it down in one gulp. The minute you meet Garrett, you know he is the hero. He is pretty much the cowboy you'd hope to meet in a country bar. The mystery is multiple layers thick, with the helpless heroine unaware of her role in the story until bit by bit both you and she learns things she never wanted to know. You will enjoy this.

There's so much happening in this story and absolutely keeps you captivated.

B.J.Daniels is a pretty good writer and she does a fine job with "Luck Of The Draw",with Garret Sterling trying to figure out the mystery behind the one women he fell in love with, Joslyn Charles, or so she calls herself! With a couple of years separating their last meeting, Garret believes Josyln is in trouble and needs his protection. And Joslyn has a killer to out before she can really dream of a future with Garret.

A great read!

I received a free, advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Like the previous book in the series, this is a second chance, murder mystery romance. This book continues where the previous one left off. While Will and Poppy are on their honeymoon, Garrett Sterling is supervising the repairs to the ranch guest house, after the fires that occurred in the previous book. While riding on the ranch, he sees movement across a deep ravine, and watches an armed man dragging a struggling woman behind him. He shoots into the air (never a good idea, because that bullet will come down) to let the man he is watching. He then hears 4 shots and sees running movement and a leg, not moving. With no cell reception, he must return to the lodge to call the sheriff. When he and the sheriff return to the scene of the crime, it is the man's body they find, but the fleeing woman ends up in an car crash and into the hospital. When Garrett goes to the hospital to see if it was the woman that he had spotted, he finds it is the woman who he had thought was the love of his life, the woman who he was going to ask to marry him eighteen months ago, before she suddenly just disappeared. She claims amnesia, but he doesn't believe her, but he also still cares enough to wants to keep her alive. Will he give her a second chance? Will she tell him the truth? Who is trying to kill her and why? Like the previous book, wonderful characters, a riveting plot and again I staying up much past my bed time to finished it.

Garrett Sterling is riding his mountain guest ranch property currently under reconstruction. He sees movement across a deep ravine and uses his binoculars to determine what is there. He sees a man threatening a woman with a gun. He fires his own gun into the air hoping the man will know someone witnesses what he is doing. Before he can regain his binoculars, he hears four more shots. Once he has his binoculars in hand again, he can't determine what has happened. He calls Sheriff Sid Anderson and explains what he saw. Garrett and Sid meet on the other side of the ravine. They don’t find a woman’s body while searching the area but do find a man with four bullets through his chest.

Later Sid learns of an accident where a woman was found in the crashed vehicle Garrett reported seeing leave the murder site. She is in the hospital. From Garrett’s report he suspects the man’s death a case of self-defense, but he wonders what happened. When the woman wakes in the hospital, her doctor tells Sid she can’t remember anything, not even her name. He suspects her lost memory due to her head injury. Sid brings Garrett in to see if he recognizes the patient from what he saw on the ridge. Garrett recognizes her all right, but not from the ridge. She is Joslyn Charles, the woman he had an affair with two years ago when he was at university studying the law. He was going to ask her to marry him, but she left without even a goodbye before he could propose, breaking his heart. He returned to his family’s ranch, giving up his goal of becoming a lawyer. He also knows she recognized him in the hospital and doesn’t believe her claim of a memory lapse.

So begins both an intriguing story and an equally intriguing romance. Garrett is guarded but wants to help Joslyn, especially when her so-called family comes to get her. Sheriff Anderson learns some unsettling information about Joslyn, including that she was in witness protection, but he can’t discover why. Many unsettling events follow. Garrett needs to learn if everything between them was a sham. Is she in trouble? Hunted or just crazy? Can Garrett overcome his distrust of anything Joslyn says--especially when Sid reports that isn’t even her name? Will learning she is due to inherit one hundred million dollars in a few day’s change his mind?

Equally interesting secondary characters play important roles in LUCK OF THE DRAW, some to help Garrett, some to help themselves. A captivating story with dystopian elements.

I was excited to read the second in the Sterling's Montana Guest Ranch series and I wasn't disappointed. This was a powerhouse of suspense from start to end., And let me say the twist at the end surprised me: I never saw it coming!

Garrett witnesses a murder while out on an afternoon horseback ride and his life changes as he discovers the only woman he's ever loved has reappeared and there's an air of mystery and murder surrounding her. Monica/Joslyn is a rich heiress who witnessed her parents murder when she was just a small child. She's never been able to identify the killer(s) and as she's grown up violent coincidences have shadowed her. She and Garrett met during a convenience store robbery and their relationship developed until she disappeared 5 months later.

She leaves Witness Protection to warn him of impending danger and the suspense begins. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat and never lets up. I had a hard time putting it down to go to bed! I wasn't prepared for the ending but wow! I don't know how BJ Daniels can top this story in Shade's book, but I can't wait. Highly recommended and you wouldn't have to read book 1 to read book 2.

I received a free ARC Ebook from NetGalley and Harlequin Publishing for my honest review.

Luck of the Draw is the next book in the Sterling Montana series. Another of B.J. Daniels stories that knocks the suspense out of the park. Some twists and turns that I just didn’t expect, even in the last few pages of the story!

Far too much going on in the first couple of chapters. This was a very difficult story to follow with everything happening so quickly. I will say that my interest was grabbed from the beginning when Garrett witnesses a murder. My issue was how quickly everything happened after that. You lost me when we jumped to yet another point of view by, I think, the third chapter.

Garret is out riding his horse on his property one day when he sees a murder. Problem is that, since it's across the river, he can't tell who was murdered, the man with the gun or, the woman he was holding on to
Joslyn wakes up the the ER, only to realize that she has no memory of what happened in the last 48 hours. She sees the Doctor and Sheriff who keep asking her all kinds of questions that she doesn't know the answer to. When Garrett walks in, he sees an immediate recognition in Joslyn's eyes, even though her eyes go blank in the next second. He realizes that she remembers him but, doesn't want him or anyone else to know that. What's going on here?
This story line is multi-faceted and, you have to pay close attention to every character but, trust me, it's worth it!
This story is a roller-coaster ride that you don't want to end!.

B J Daniels is one of my favorite authors. This book is a romantic suspense with enough twists through out the story to keep me reading. I really liked the story line, romance but not full of sex.

I enjoyed reading this book. The mystery had some twists that kept me engaged. To me, the romance was secondary to the mystery which was a pleasant surprise. The book does not have hot detailed romance scenes, but focuses on the yearning of the love the main characters once had. A solid choice for a weekend read.
