An interesting look into "The Priory of the Orange Tree". It shows off the worldbuilding and the interesting story. I'm definitely going to be looking into purchasing a copy of it soon.

The story in this preview has already shown the rich worldbuilding that Samantha Shannon is planning for the rest of the book. So far, we've glimpsed a few characters so there's nothing to comment on them as of the moment.
Given the pace in this preview, I believe that THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE is set out to be a fast page-turner of a book.

The excerpt is just one part of this monster of a novel that I can't wait to sink my teeth into. Based on the snippet, I know it's going to be a mountain filled with epic high fantasy.

You had me at dragons. This excerpt has me thoroughly bewitched and begging for more. Already we're introduced to an interesting cast of characters distinct enough to never feel overwhelming, despite the quickly changing multiple perspectives. So far the book is dripping with court political, drama, and intrigue. I could't put it down. I can't wait for a full copy so I can dive back into this story, which is sure to be epic.

The Priory of the Orange Tree is definitely the next big fantasy story! I have already own the physical book right after the release date!

I was sent an arc excerpt of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This excerpt was ok. I just don't think this was for me. I couldn't get into this story enough to enjoy it.

Not for me. I wish that she hadn't gotten lost writing her other series. I will not be committing myself to the full 700+ pages of this book.

I'm so excited to dive into this world and the excerpt makes me even more excited! I've been hearing such amazing things and I feel like this book is going to be PERFECT for a book binge weekend.

Even though it was only an excerpt, this really gave you a feel for what to expect from the eventual book. Based on this excerpt, I ended up buying the full doorstopper for myself and I wasn't disappointed. In a market saturated with stories about dragons, PRIORY provides something new and fascinating in the legends, the way the different sides of the world view the dragons, the various magic systems, and all the cultures it weaves together. It's a very thick book, but it's thick with something to say, and that was what mattered. I actually enjoyed reading this more than I did Game of Thrones.

Great start to the book,I found it very engaging, and I look forward to reading the rest of it in the future.

This excerpt was a wonderful tid-bit to help get me excited about the release of Priory. I can't wait to dig in to the book myself!

This excerpt was just enough to have consumed the entirety of my attention. It was so well written, and compelling. It was diverse, and had such an epic storyline. There were so many layers to the characters, and world building. I cannot wait to finish it!

As a huge fan of THE BONE SEASON, I have really been looking forward to reading more books by Samanatha Shannon. When I saw an excerpt available, I had to snag it! I had a bit of trouble getting started and it seems to be moving pretty slow in the beginning. I'm very intrigued by the premise of this story, so I can't wait to dive further into it.

Wow wow! Need to read more! So in depth, great world building. The characters blend with there environment make you want to know more, to dive deep into the story. Can’t wait for the book to go deeper into the storyline. Would so recommend this book.

This was so good. I have A LOT of feelings.
Priory was the queer dragon fantasy of my dreams: The novel follows four different narrators spread throughout the fantasy world. It took me about 100 pages to really find my footing in the world – I was confronted with so many character names and places that I must’ve flipped to the map in front at least once per page! But once I actually understood the world the story was taking place in, I was completely enthralled.
I loved (most of) the characters and following their journeys was so interesting and so much fun – I was rarely able to guess where we were heading next and it took many more twists and turns to get to what we knew fairly early on would be the climax of the story! Even the painful parts were great – some of the character deaths really hurt me in my soul, but it wasn’t like I didn’t expect some people to die…
I also loved the romance, especially the main one: When have you read a fantasy novel with the main romance being female/female? And the only other one discussed in-depth male/male? It was so refreshing to see that. I also enjoyed how these characters remained themselves, even though they fell in love – so often people completely lose their heads as soon as they’re in a relationship, suddenly disregarding what they stand for and ignoring what has to be done for the world in favor of protecting their lover. We didn’t have that at all, here – quite the opposite.
But what really made this stand out to me are the messages about finding balance and how necessary it is for the future to move forward and past old grievances, opening up to new things. There is a lot to learn for our world. I’ll definitely be pushing everyone to read this.

I loved this excerpt so much! I cannot wait to read the whole book! I'm really loving Shannon's writing style and her characters are so fun. The world building is phenomenal. I cannot wait to read the whole book!!!

This review will only cover the EXCERPT of The Priory of the Orange Tree that I received, but I will update my review in the future once I read the rest of the book.
This book immediately drew me in from the first page. This book seems to have everything that I love in fantasy - strong women, interesting stories and settings, and of course dragons. The characters are well-developed and realistic, and the author's style of writing is engrossing. I can't wait to read the rest of this amazing stand-alone fantasy novel!

This excerpt is everything I was waiting for : it's a fantasy you won't want to miss out, full of details with a unique style. If you love dragons and fierce women like me, you're going to love it.

Whew! What a book! It opens with only a few details of the setting or the context of how things will unfold but the word play draws a strong mood of anticipation and suspense. I would recommend that you sit down with this book when you are able to give it some undivided attention for the beginning can look a bit vague. But stay with it and the characters: their allegiance, their connections and conflict with one another plays out beautifully soon enough.
In the best of the fantasy genre, there are not only dragons but also shape shifters and other ‘birds’ with their unique abilities and bonds with the ones they hold close to them. I love it that the dragons are not just magical creatures that instil awe, fear and dread but ones that are full of wisdom and speak about love and life. The story weaves in elements of how one’s beliefs honed over generations as the only truth, can be a baggage and a barrier to moving ahead towards a better world. There are sexual identities and relationships that carry the story forward and the beauty of how the support of friends can be so affirming.

Ahhh! This excerpt was a little taste of such an amazing book, and I was so grateful to be able to read part of it early. I cannot wait until I got my hands on my own finished copy so that I can devour the rest of it!
