The Headshrinker's Brigade is about survival and hope. Julia is temporarily blind due to an accident. Her boyfriend Nick is a jerk. She ultimately faces it alone. Julia chooses a new career path to be a counselor and goes back to school. An assignment sends her to a mental health facility one day. From these patients, Julia learns some important life lessons. Instead of helping them, they help her. The story is heart warming and hopeful. Julia is a survivor and she's strong and intelligent. The story is a good intriguing read. Relatable, well-written characters and flowing prose; Tourish's novel is exciting, modern and fast-paced, whilst it may not stay with the reader long after s/he turns the last page, the journey is definitely thrilling.
