Learn all about frogs through simple, child-friendly text and colorful, engaging photographs. As with other offerings in the “My Favorite” series, short “Do You Remember” questions follow each section of the picture book. Types of frogs and where they live (and how long they do), small ones, large ones, colorful ones, what they eat, how they catch their prey and lay eggs, and finally, the difference between a frog and a toad. Very informative. Five stars.

Every time I review a kid’s book, I do it with my children in mind. In fact, the books I select tend to be based on what I think they might be interested in. And my kids are crazy about animals! What 8-year-old isn’t? And frogs? I think we can all agree that frogs are awesome. AWESOME. And I’m all about young kids getting their learn on through wonderful nature books. So, this book seemed a natural fit.

I’d like to start by saying that I only had access to the digital version of this book, and there is a very strong chance that it is more aesthetically pleasing in print. The pictures are great. Pretty standard fare of different species of frog, in various stages of development. The images are big, bright, and colorful. There is a glossary at the back that covers some basic froggish terms. And I appreciate that at the end of every topic, there is a section that asks what they remember about what they just read. And the facts that are presented are interesting, thorough without being overwhelming, and appear accurate.

This is not an early reader, but it’s exactly the type of book I would have read to my kids when they were four or so. The pictures are age appropriate, and if they are naturally curious, they will ask questions about what the bigger words mean, provoking discussion. My kids have been getting National Geographic Little Kids magazine since they were three, and I’d say this book is even simpler than that. Now at eight, my kids would breeze through this book!

Overall, a perfectly acceptable kids book about frogs. If it’s the first children’s book you or your child have ever read about frogs, you’ll love it! As someone who has bookshelves brimming with similar books, it’s pretty much par for the course.

Thank you to NetGalley and Xist Publishing for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
My family and I live next to a park with a little pond. Every spring we go there to watch frogs go through their development stages: from tiny tadpoles to fully grown animals leisurely basking in the sun. Of course, I couldn’t pass this book.
Like all titles in this series, it provides a great introduction to these lovely animals. There is a wealth of information on their habitats, food, weight, size, and some quirky facts to keep children entertained as well as informed.
The photographs accompanying the text are simply gorgeous. I would have probably chosen a different font or different word spacing with a few more breaks between the sentences to make it easier to read.
The book would make an excellent addition to a preschool/elementary school library.

Excellent introduction to frogs for readers facing challenges or early readers. The photographs are perfectly detailed and help the readers get a close-up view of the habitats, food and the animals themselves. The questions are inserted as a part of the text giving the early readers timely breaks and enable them to pause and examine their comprehension. There are no references or aids for further exploration. The glossary adequate. It would be valuable for the teachers and students to have these resources available.

This is an introduction for children, it gives them some images and descriptions about a few of frog species in the world as well as a couple of fun facts. It is a bi short and could have done with a but more colour where the text is added to make it more attractive. Three stars from me for this one

Victoria Marcos is the author of several non-fiction series beginning with "My Favorite". I really enjoy reading them to my grandchildren. This book has some great photos and facts about frogs. It is geared to young children (4 to 8) so they can learn about frogs and it does just that. It is simple with just enough information that it will not overwhelm them. They will hear about where they live, their bodies, what they ear etc. There is some difficult vocabulary in this book that the younger listeners will need an explanation for, but primary students learning about animals and the various classification of them (mammals, birds, amphibians etc.) should be okay with it. I think this is a great book and series for a school library. There are many young children who do not want to read fiction and this series would definitely give them something to read as they are developing their skills. I can see this peaking a reader's interest enough that they search and read more. The publisher, Xist Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Great information for kids in the form of a non-fiction book about frogs. Excellent photos to go along with the pictures is a great addition.

Like all books in this series, this one features photographs and facts of the animal in question. Sometimes the words are too big for the age of the reader, but they’re probably in it for the photos anyway.
There’s some simple memory quizzes and a glossary, but again, this is about the visuals.
