Those in foster care wonder what it would be like to have a forever home. Having roots that grew so deep and so strong that one could never tug them free no matter how hard one tried.

Taryn grew up in the foster care system. She was one of the lucky ones in that she became successful in her career as a lawyer. She did not have any family roots at all. No parents, no grandparents, and no love interest. Having some down time from her work, she discovers a letter that was hidden with the few things that she did have when her birth mother had given her up for adoption. The letter lead her to a coffee shop by accident which lead her to the nurse that delivered her so many years ago. With her unique eye color, the nurse remembered a frightened woman that left her baby behind. Taryn is than lead to an Amish family that carries the same eye unique eye color. With the help of her birth mother's sister and investigator (turned into a love interest), Taryn discovers that her roots do go very deep. She also discovers that someone is going out of there way to keep Taryn from the truth.

It was a thrilling read and could easily become adapted to a movie.

Becki Willis is a new author for me and I am a very pleased. The need to find out who her real mother Taryn is brought back and forth for years but she was not ready for the closed mouths of the Amish Community.

An enjoyable read about a young woman adopted as a baby and trying to find her roots... with a dose of mystery included. A bit contrived, but still enjoyable.

My patrons are crazy about Amish stories, and I had hoped this one would fit the bill, but it turned out to be more of a mystery as Tareyn was searching for her roots. I thought some of the things she uncovered were just a bit too unrealistic.and seemingly easy for her to find. This book was not y cup of tea and I will not be serving it.

From a young age, Taryn had known she was adopted. She had always had a longing to know more about her biological family. The discovery of a note from her birth mother and a Lancaster County hospital bill matching her date of birth came at the same time Taryn found herself with a lot of free time. Now was the time for her to find her roots and some answers. If a mother's love for her child is supposed to be powerful, why did her mother give her up?
The narrative moves quickly. There are surprises, set backs, mystery and danger with a bit of romance mixed in. I found this to be a well crafted and interesting story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This was full of action but slow in places. Taryn was adopted and after her parents die she goes in search of her birth mother. A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Bryce is hired as a PI to help Taryn locate her mother.

Absolutely captivating book from start to finish. This book has it all. If Amish books are a favourite you will thoroughly enjoy Plain Roots.

Becki Willis writes beautifully and you will be drawn into Taryn's search for answers to the many questions of her parentage.

After a life through the Foster system, Taryn finally ends up with a forever family but after their divorce and the death of her mother, Taryn comes to the devastating conclusion that a family is something she will never have.

When Taryn decides to clean out her life, she finds a box at the back of her closet and in it she finds a 45 word letter and a receipt from the hospital she was born in. With just these two pieces of information, Taryn is compelled to go on a journey of discovery in which she will find so much more than she bargained for and everything she was waiting for.

Thanks to NetGalley and Clear Creek Publishers for the opportunity to read and review this exceptional book.

Taryn Clark’s beautiful and unusual violet eyes lead her to both hope and danger. She is determined to find her birth mother with only a brief letter and an old hospital receipt. She finds a confusing story told by a dedicated nurse but one that leads her to the Zook farm. It may be too much to handle, so Taryn hire very principled ex-military Bryce, a PI in the small town.
Meanwhile, she meets a family of Plain people, Amish, who share her unusual eye color. Are they her family? Is one of them her mother? More stories and the welcome of the Zooks, especially Lillian, lead Taryn to find not only family and hope, but also a sad past and a very dangerous man known only as the Toad.
With Bryce’s and Lillian’s help and protection, Taryn will find out more than she ever bargained for. Yet, what happens when she gets too close to someone from the past and the truth.

A great story. Taryn has come looking for her roots. Given up for adoption, then losing her adopted family and raised in the system, she wants to find out where she came from. Finding out her mother had been Amish was a surprise, but finding a mystery and a hunky PI was even more so. The only thing or two I wish were explained or developed more was for her to contact her father (perhaps another book going to France?) and to find out how the"Toad" knew she was there and snooping around. She never gave out too much details to others, so not sure why the threats and people following her around. Other than that, I really enjoyed this story and writer, and would highly recommend.

Bekki Willis, as she outlines in her acknowledgements, hopes that the reader of Plain Roots will gain an insight into the lives of the Amish community in Lancaster County. Plain Roots does this, and far more, as its story pattern is skilfully woven into the search for family background by a woman whose childhood was largely destroyed by lack of family. A great story, well told.

Taryn spent her youth being bounced around foster homes after her adoptive mother died and her adoptive father could not care for her. She wanted to know where she came from and finally found a clue, a receipt from Lancaster Memorial. This story is heartwarming but also heartbreaking at times as Taryn searches for answers. Highly recommended!
