This title was not for me and was a DNF but I will remember the author for reader's advisory in those who like historical fiction with suspense.

The set up and the premise was nice but the plot felt like it dragged on.

Thanks to NetGalley / Edelweiss and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for a review.

I was so intrigued by the cover I couldn't resist requesting an ARC. Overall I enjoyed the book but there were a few fatal flaws that diminished the experience. It starts out with action, a tragic accident resulting in amnesia for the main character and the mystery ensues. OK, I'm compelled to keep reading. There is an upcoming political vote regarding "privateers" (essentially pirates) which is presented early on giving a clue to "whodunit". This detail informs some colossally bad decision-making in the last chapters which made me roll my eyes as the culprit is easily guessed at this point. I don't know if this book was intended as a YA book but it is clean enough for a preteen. Adult readers may find it lacking in continuity and historical accuracy.

The premise was great, the writing was light with a deeper tone- it just wasn't what I had anticipated when I requested it. It wasn't drawing me in as much as I was hoping for. Sadly, I was unable to complete the book.

Did not finish this one, so I did not leave a rating and review on retailers. Prose was good, but couldn't get into the story.

This is fun and entertaining, while being slightly predictable.

A woman involved in a carriage accident has no memory of who she is. The family of the young man who caused the accident takes her in and tries to find out what has happened to her and where she came from and why there are people following her around and asking questions.

If you're looking for something light and enjoyable, I would recommend this, despite the sinister aspects of the story.

The Hummingbird Dagger definitely capture my attention with its breathtaking cover and premise but I found the pace a little too leisurely and the mystery not as spine tingling as I hoped. Overall, the building romance was sweet and the actual Regency tone was quite fun to read.

I got a lot of Sleepy Hollow vides from the book itself. Writing was okay but needed more depth. The world building is there as in you can see it but you can't feel it. The characters and their descriptions were awesome though.

I read Deadly Curious by this author a couple months ago and loved her writing so much that I am excited to read her other novels. I think Hummingbird Dagger was a more intense mystery than the first novel I read. I also felt more thrown into the past. From the fashion to the way the characters talked and the atmosphere around them. I was truly transported. If you like mystery's or historical novels I highly recommend The Hummingbird Dagger.

A solid YA novel that was a good purchase for my library. Students have read and enjoyed it, and I purchased it because of this review copy.

***3.5 stars***
This was a very interesting book. It has a goth vibe to it. It was dark with intrigue, suspense, and murder.

I have to admit that I didn't connect with the characters very much. The story moved for me because of the plot. A young woman is involved in a carriage accident due to the recklessness of a teenage boy.
She is taken in by the teen's older brother and it is discovered that she is suffering amnesia. The name she decides to go by is Beth. From this point on, bad things start to happen around and to her.
She is targeted for murder, her maid is killed, she is stalked by men with malicious intent. The only question is why? The only clue is the nightmare she has every night about blood dripping from a hummingbird dagger.

If you like good suspense and the search for a bad guy before he can inflict more harm, you should give this book a try. It has a little bit of romance and non-graphic violence.

I usually read Anstey when I want a light romantic mystery set in the early 1800s. This is a departure - set in the same time period, but with a darker, violent mystery underneath a tenderly growing romance. I found it slow in the beginning, but as the danger to the mysterious Beth grows, so did my interest in the book.

This might be my favorite books by Cindy Anstey. I liked the setting and the mystery. Even though this was your typical romance it still kept my interest throughout.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am addicted to Cindy Antsey’s brilliantly witty, funny and exciting period novels and The Hummingbird Dagger is no exception. It grabbed my interest right from the start and kept me engaged to the very end. I eagerly await the sequel and can not recommend Antsey’s books highly enough!!!

Much like her other books, Anstey sets a lighthearted, almost frivolous tone with her storytelling that works for a frothy, not-meant-to-be-taken-to-seriously Regency romance. I'm not sure it works as well for a mystery/crime story. Full disclosure - did not read this one all the way through. We have so many Regency-inspired romances that this probably won't be on the top of my pick list for collections.

Great novel, highly recommend for those who enjoy the genre. Will be recommending for immediate purchase.

This book had a unique premise, it was a tad bit slow at the beginning but swept me up soon enough and kept me in it's grip well until the end. I would recommend it to other fellow fantasy fans in a heartbeat. Thank you for allowing me to read and hand sell this title.

Just not my cup of tea at all. It was slow moving and to be honest I just found it boring. I'm giving you feedback but I'm choosing not to write a detailed review on goodreads because I don't think I can give it a fair assessment.

I was looking forward to reading a Regency book, and I have never read a Cindy Anstey book but have always seen them in the bookstores. So I figured it was time to request one and jumped at the opportunity. The book kind of jumps around, but I was super intrigued to follow along with Beth getting her memories back after the carriage accident and her finding out who she was and about the hummingbird Dagger. I actually really enjoyed this book and will be picking up the others!

I've enjoyed Cindy Anstey's previous books. One doesn't see a lot of Regency-era YA. This one is a little darker than her "romances" but it was just as good. I would recommend it to others.
