I knew going into this story that it would be a bit farfetched—10th century Highlanders living in modern day North Carolina. But I figured it sounded intriguing and the heroine—Katie—seemed interesting since she’s an archaeologist. Overall, this book was a struggle.

The writing felt mediocre at best, full of cliches and poor word choice (the word “suck” was used in one shape or form about six times in two pages). The plot was practically nonexistent. They get thrown back in time (with Katie having no idea what’s going on) because there’s an urgent matter, which turns out to be hardly anything at all. I could have forgiven those flaws if there had been a good romance. Instead, every interaction between Katie and Ramsay felt either rushed or forced. The pair of them never really get to know each other and we never see any emotional chemistry—though their physical attraction is made clear. I just struggled to buy into any of the characters.

I will admit that the book had some mildly funny scenes (particularly when Ramsay is showing his spear to Katie) and that it does work well as a standalone since we get a prologue explaining the previous novels. However, I found it lackluster.

Katie's Highlander was a suspenseful storyline. I have not had a chance to read the other books in the series but this book gave enough of the backstory in bits and pieces that I was able to follow without missing vital information. I found myself unable to put Katie’s Highlander down. From the beginning, Katie and Ramsay has had a tumultuous relationship that played off the sexy, saving 21st century hero and strong willed, independent, successful woman. Mauve Greyson wove the story and words to make me imagine every detail as if I was watching a movie play in my mind. I will definitely be reading the past and future installments of this series.

Katie and Ramsey were equally matched in stubbornness, tender feelings, and verve. Their meetcute was hilarious, and even with the outlandish plot, it was still a fun read.

After the death of her father Archaeologist Katie Jenson has decided she needs a six month sabbatical from her job at Princeton University. She ends up in the ditch when a sexy Ramsey MacDara comes to her rescue. Poor Ramsay simply wishes the goddesses had left him back in the tenth century. He’s sworn off women they’re nothing but trouble and they can’t be trusted. Ramsey has been scorned by a woman and it makes it even harder for him to trust his new feeling for Katie after he takes her to his family home. I loved these two their characters clash and Ramsey sends mixed signal to Katie, but when their returned to Ramsey’s time to tenth century Scotland their relationship heats up as Katie takes her father’s advice to live life to the fullest with her passionate sexy highlander. This my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Katie was driving through North Carolina on her way to enjoy a weeks vacation with friends when she wrecks her car. Trying to reach her laptop bag by climbing down through the moon rood, her battery dies as the glass moves to pin her in. Rescued vy Ramsay MacDara, a transplanted Scot full of secrets. Turns out the family MacDara has been seth forth to the present to protect the hearthstone. The sons (including Ramsay) are often sent back in time to protect different clans, etc. Right after Ramsay and Katie are married by Ramsay’s father (a powerful druid) they are sent back in time. It turns out Katie and Ramsay are fated, placed together by the goddesses Bride, Danu, and Scota whom the MacDara’s serve.
This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone. This story has intrigued me enough that I will be getting the first two books in the series and reading those as well.
The plot was great, the writing wonderful and I can’t wait to see who the next book is about.
I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

Amazon’s Blurb: “Maeve Greyson knows how to create swoon-worthy heroes and sweet sexual tension. Ramsay MacDara stole my heart!”—Vonnie Davis, author of Highlander’s Beloved series

An archaeologist with a zest for life finds herself stranded in small-town North Carolina—with a brooding Highland hunk who’s straight out of ancient Scotland.

Ramsay MacDara wishes the goddesses had left his arse back in the tenth century. That way he never would have met the gold digger who made a fool out of him. A loner at heart, Ramsay is riding his beloved horse through the woods near his family’s North Carolina theme park, Highland Life and Legends, when he hears tires squealing—followed by a thud—and rushes to the scene to help. That’s when he sets his eyes on a pair of long legs sticking out of the moon roof of a car. His interest piqued, the rest of her will soon arouse his greatest desires . . . and deepest fears.

Archaeologist Katie Jenson is on a six-month sabbatical from her job at Princeton University. Following the death of her beloved father—whose dying request was for Katie to live life to the fullest—she’s headed to a friend’s beach house in North Carolina. But a momentary distraction takes her off the road and on the journey of her life . . . with a sex god in a kilt at her side. Ramsay’s passion is the stuff of legend—and it just may be Katie’s greatest discovery.

Praise for Katie’s Highlander

“Outlander fans must get Katie’s Highlander! It’s a book you’ll never forget!”—Sharon Cullen, author of Lost to a Spy

“I found myself unable to put Katie’s Highlander down once I was absorbed in it. I love a good time-travel romance—throw in a little bit of Scotland and Druids and I am in. I will be purchasing the other installments in this series as soon as possible.”—Romance Reviews Site

My Review: Katie goes off road in a car wreck and finds a handsome rescuer in Ramsey McDara. She’s an archaeologist and is fascinated by the spear he carries. It looks from some other time. So, does his home and his family. When she gets transported back in time with Ramsey, she yearns to go back home but slowly the people and the time pulls her in. She knows Ramsey wants to stay but when a pregnancy results in the death of the mother, he fears for Katie if they stay. When they seek out a higher power for predictions and see a familiar face, they learn what might be in store for them, in the future and in the past.

I LOVED it! The characters are mesmerizing, and the romance is all that you want. Ramsey and Katie are destined for each other, if they can only get over their fears. This series hasn’t disappointed me! Maeve Grayson is an author to watch!

Highlander romance book by a great author Maeve Greyson should be read for every historical romance reader.
The plot is ordinary, yet it will keep you intensely reading page after page.
Sexual scenes were not over the top, but well incorporated into the writing style.
I read this book in 24 hours because it was easy to read and the story line made me want to find our what will happen at the end of the book.
Another author that should be appreciated!

I hate to compare but this is like Highlander times 15. The time travel the steamy sex and a choice that has to be made. All of this makes this a book you don't want to it down so enjoy the ride.

This is a tough review for me to write because I really, really wanted to like this book. In general, I love time travel romances, and I am always looking for good ones to fill in the gaps between Lynn Kurland's releases. Unfortunately, "Katie's Highlander" was not one of the good ones in my opinion. I struggled to finish this book. If I hadn't gotten it from NetGalley and committed to writing a review, I would have DNF'd it. But instead, I persevered, and to be honest, I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

First, a couple of positive things about the book. Even though it's the third book in a series, it stands well on its own. The author did a good job of setting the stage at the beginning so that I didn't feel lost even though I hadn't read the first two books in the series. In addition, the setup for the time travel is very creative. In most of the time travel books I've read, it seems like the characters are just flung through time at random and never figure out why or how it happens. In this case, it actually serves a purpose: the protection of the Heartstone, which in this world is the source of all of humanity's love and hope. It's kind of cool to think about there being Highland Protectors out there fighting to keep those things alive for us, especially in this day and age when we hear about so much bad in the world.

Unfortunately, the things I didn't like about the book far outweighed the good. Most importantly, I didn't like Katie, the female main character, at all. She consistently came across as a spoiled shrew who threw temper tantrum after temper tantrum and treated the people around her like dirt. I couldn't figure out what Ramsay, the male lead, saw in her that was lovable. And speaking of love, the development of the relationship between Katie and Ramsay was basically nonexistent. About halfway through the book, shortly after they have traveled back in time, Ramsay basically just looks at Katie and thinks, "I love her and have to have her because she's so spirited!" By the way, this happens while Katie is in the middle of one of her tantrums and is actually threatening to kill Ramsay. She throws a knife at him a minute later! I guess that could be considered "spirited," all right, but seriously, WTF?! For Katie's part, she decides that she's in "love" with Ramsay basically because they have hot sex. This totally seems like a relationship that is destined to last!

There were a number of other things about the plot that bothered me too, but it was actually the author's writing style that I found to be the bigger annoyance. For example, I lost count of how many times she used the word "snugged" or "snugging." (I didn't realize it before I read this book, but apparently, I hate that word like many people hate the word "moist." It sounds just like nails on a chalkboard to me. Obviously, that's a personal problem, but still, let's all remember that variety in word choice is a good thing!) I could have ignored it if the word had only been used once or twice, but it was used repeatedly. Ramsay "snugs" his belt against his hips. Katie "snugs" against a cairn of rocks or against Ramsay's chest. I'd just like to point out that there are other words - nestle, snuggle, press, tighten, secure, etc. Thesauruses (thesauri?) are our friends!

Bottom line: This book just wasn't for me. It had a lot of potential, and with better editing I think it actually could be quite good. But in its current state, I just can't recommend it.

I enjoyed the historical detail and the lively characters that inhabited both the present day and ancient history parts of the plot. I love the humor that fills Katie and Ramsay's inner dialogue and their interactions. I always enjoy the denial phase when an unsuspecting person gets sent through time and Katie's background as an archeologist just added to my enjoyment in this story. I also think the premise of a medieval-themed amusement park used to camouflage the transplantation of an ancient castle and keep and its residents is truly inspired. This is a fun read and I recommend it to readers who like more humor than angst in their time travel stories.
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley and I offer my honest opinion in response.

This is a fairly sweet book. There is some texture, but not a lot.
Katie is a blond archeologist driving through NC and ends up in a ditch on the side of the road. Her airbag has deployed and there is dust for days. Ramsay comes riding along on his faithful steed and extricates Katie from the wreck. Ramsay is the archetypal male chauvinist, time-traveling highland Protector and Katie, having roamed the world with her father is a self-made, ain’t taking no crap from a caveman, liberated woman. There is a great deal of humor to be had.
They end up married at the hand of Ramsay’s Da and a meddling demigod, and on the way back to the compound from the ceremony, as Katie is cooling down and looking for a bush to squat behind ends up in the 10th Century… Ramsay is the perfectly content big cheese and Katie is a 21st-century girl challenged by all the modern conveniences, not in the 900’s.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my review based on my honest opinion.

This is the first book I have read by this author and it won’t be my last. I enjoyed this book, lovely characters, very descriptive. I really enjoyed the historical portions of the book and how the author showed how they dealt with certain every day things in a mediaeval life. It was a great love story and I enjoyed the overall storyline and how hot was Ramsay. Lol

Will definitely be checking out the other books in this series.

I got a free copy of this book through NetGalley. It is my first book from this author and my first in this series. I feel like I've been missing out. I loved this book -- the characters, the plot, the descriptions, the history, the themes, all of it! This is a book well worth reading and I am hoping to read more from this series, and from this author.

Eons ago...
Of all the Druid clans, the strongest was the goddesses of the MacDara bloodline. More devoted and trained by the warrior goddess. MacDara men and their sons mastered the four relic weapons sword, hammer, shield and spear. No better archers could be found but MacDara females.

Yet the MacDara clan were gifted with the highest honor. That is to guard and protect the blessed Heartstone. This is an ancient relic that contains a special unique energy that made every human’s life special, unique and worth living. To love, hope, evolve and live, without this gift civilization on earth would not be the same. Plus eventually the world would cease to exist. Yet as time went on the meaning of the stone and the lore was forgotten, lost in the circle of time and the mist. Though not forgotten by all existing by the Druid clans.

The MacDara descendents know exactly the cost. As in the tenth century they were brutally attacked and knows what it nearly cost their existence! Yet the three goddesses save Ramsay Danaan MacDara, his two older brothers, his parents, younger sister and bring them to North Carolina in the twenty-first century . The MacDara’s will protect the blessed stone at any cost. As they know they must thrive and never cease to exist! No matter what century the goddesses place them in to save and protect.

17 years later in the future.
North Carolina, present day 2018

I have been reading Ms Greyson for years and again another book I loved! **

On a personal note my husband has been working for Princeton University for over 25 years!

The MacDara Family in 900 a.d. broch in the highlands of Scotland were under attack and wouldn't have survived. So the Goddesses sent them to the future to present day, North Carolina. This was not only to preserve their lives but so they could continue to protect the Heartstone as this was their legacy. Theses stories began when the four sons were ages twenty through fourteen. The first book, Sadie’s Highlander is 20 year old Alec’s story began 15 years after they were relocated in the future. The second story, Joanna’s Highlander, was Grants story, 16 years later. Now is is the third brother Ramsay Danaan’s turn 17 years later. As they are all aging naturally after their time-travel shift.

Brady North Carolina, present day 2019
Seventeen years since shifted to the future.

The hero of this story is Ramsay Danaan MacDara known as Ramsay. He thought by now like his older brothers Alec and Grant, he would be married by now. Unfortunately he came close, but the woman was only using him for his family's wealth with no love in her heart. He now wishes the Goddesses had left him back in the tenth century with no broken heart! So he has trust issues now with the fairer sex, plus he has always been more comfortable with his four legged furry friends. Plus he being from another time it is difficult for Ramsay to see and detect a woman’s duplicity, treachery and
betrayal him and using him for her own selfish, deceptive, and disloyal desires. Now he just spends his time alone with his animals.

That is until one day he is taking his horse for an evening ride and hears a car accident. Of course the honorable highlander he is goes to help the lass. After all that has been imbedded in him since birth. So he goes and finds a bonny female arse sticking out of the mangled car. He then rescues his damsel in distress bringing her home. Although he keeps thinking this is a big mistake, but how could he turn his back and not leave the lass stranded in the dark woods!

Katie Jensen, the heroine of this story is an archeologist. She is taking a six month sabbatical leave from her job, in the garden state. This is at Ivy League, Princeton University, on Nassau Street in Princeton, New Jersey. Her father passed away a few weeks ago as she is still grieving. In addition her fathers last dying wish was for Katie to appreciate, savor and live her life to the fullest and highest degree of happiness! So on impulse she decided to do a road trip to her friend’s beach house in North Carolina. Unfortunately this is when she totals her vehicle! Luckily she finds herself rescued by the hottest man she has ever seen in her life! On top of that he has the most sexy Scottish brogue, dressed in a kilt, with a body to match. Yet as she gets to know Ramsay her inquisitive and curious mind wants to find out more! The attraction is instant between both of them, yet she also gets mixed signals from Ramsay. To Katie, he is like a traffic light she doesn't know if she should stop of go?

Will Ramsay continue to believe that the Goddesses put Katies in his path or will he trust his own heart? Could it be his forced destiny or true love? However he so suspicious and untrusting of his attraction to Katie. His heart had been so shattered and trust broken by his ex-fiance he can’t believe in faith or love? In addition he worries its supernatural elements trying to force the match. He isn't sure what and who he can trust?

Are Katies feelings for Ramsay true? Could he be just another test sample from the past to be examined, tested and analyzed? Possibly her best subject and finding of a lifetime!

Will Ramsay feel used again but not for wealth this time? As it would be for his families treasured secrets, due to Katie’s archeologists interest and curious mind. Can these two ever find a happily ever after? A book readers don't want to miss!

Katie's Highlander (A Highland Protector Novel) by Maeve Greyson is an enchanting story about a young archeologist who wrecks her car and stumbles across an odd family of Scottish Highlanders in of all places, North Carolina. It seems they run a living history theme park. A very attractive highlander who says his name is Ramsay and introduces his horse as Dubh rescues her from her car. He takes her back to his home, which looks for all the world like an authentic Scottish keep, where everyone is very kind to her. She asks questions Ramsay doesn't want to answer so his solution is to distract her from her questions with too much whiskey. The next morning he rises to discover she has walked into town to begin the process of seeing her car towed and repaired.

Ramsay catches up with her, not happy. His bother catches them at the garage and admonishes Ramsay to come home and help with their father, who appears to be in the clutches of dementia. To make a long story short, during a ceremony that Katie plays along with to satisfy an old man's whim, she ends of married to Ramsay. As this outcome dawns on her, she takes off running through the forest.

This is the first I heave read by this author and it will not be the last. The plot is clever and well depicted. The main characters are drawn with detail and depth. Is this historical fiction or is it something more? The love story is compelling and interesting and the details are enchanting. I highly recommend this book as a distracting read: one you will enjoy.

I received a free ARC of Katie's Highlander in exchange for a fair and honest review. #netgalley #katieshighlander

This is a voluntary review of an advanced review.

I have not read the previous books so I appreciated the info at the beginning that explained the background of the series.

Readers are informed that Ramsay had been deceived by a gold digging woman so he was not looking for his mate when Katie "crashed" into his life. He is kind of a jerk at the start so as soon as possible, Katie takes off for town.

Not knowing what she was saying, she and Ramsay end up married then thrust into the past. Wow, at this point, Ramsay is in his element and just seems so much more like before the betrayal.

They have some drama to get through and decisions to make that will impact their future. Good thing that they were able to "see" their future courses and did not make the wrong choice!

Now I need to go back and read the previous to get caught up!

I enjoyed the romance between Ramsay and Katie, whether it was current or 10th century. A really good read that travels back and makes you really think about the past, the future, what parts we all play. My feelings got involved and I could see it in my mind, well written.
I received an ARC thru Net Galley and am voluntarily giving my opinion.

I did not want to stop reading this story! I loved Katie's strength of character with her natural sweetness and caring personality. She could not leave someone in need. Ramsay was a gruff yet gentle man, carrying the burdens of the family secrets and a bad past relationship. It was interesting how these two figured out what was the right thing to do. There were smiles, giggles, and tears as I turned these pages. I highly recommend this story.

I received an ARC through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

Katie's Highlander is part of the engaging time travel series by Maeve Greyson. This is a series that has gotten better and better as it continues. I like the setting of the NC small town. I like the way the characters try to preserve the past that they were ripped from. I like how they did so in a fun way. I will never look at a theme park again without wondering, “What If????”.

I like the characters especially Ramsay. I started out thinking that Katie was fun woman, a brilliant woman who was also scatterbrained. She was looking at the stars through the moonroof when she should have been watching the road while driving. Before long I was dismayed by her language. She is educated so why resort to easy profanity; she should have many words in her vocabulary to use instead. Also for someone who claims not to fall into a bad mood over circumstances she manages to do so quite a bit.

The plot is solid with a twist, then add some matchmaking that kept the story interesting. However, it is the epilogue that is priceless.

Katie Jensen managed to get her car stuck in the forests of Brady North Carolina. When Katie goes back for her laptop she gets herself wedged in the moon roof of the car. Suddenly a highland knight in shining armor comes to her rescue; Katie is not only relieved but also her savior Ramsay MacDara is a dream come true. Ramsay doesn’t know what else to do but take Katie home. His family welcomes her with open arms but Katie is a little bit suspicious. As Katie learns more about Ramsay and his eccentric family she can’t help but love them. Katie really likes Ramsay despite thinking he’s crazy. When Ramsay’s father betroths Katie to Ramsay; Ramsay can no longer hide who he really is a druid protector for the goddesses. Katie likes Ramsay but isn’t ready to be his wife. Still it seems the marriage is unbreakable. When Katie is determined to run away from Ramsay they are both taken back to 10th century Scotland. Ramsay loves being back but Katie is bound and determined to get back to the future no matter what. Will Ramsay and Katie find their true destiny in Scotland or will they end up losing everything anyway?
What an amazing adventure filled time travel story! The story moves unhurriedly and the characters despite their flaws are easily liked. Yes it would have been nice to have a more definite separation of the timelines but this isn’t really a complicated book and everything still manages to work out well anyway. We fell in love with the MacDara’s from the very beginning in Sadie’s book with Alec; then of course Grant found his love and now it’s Ramsay’s turn to find love but it’s not without a fight. Luckily this book can also be read as a standalone without any problems but just to understand the family dynamic then it won’t hurt to start from the very beginning. Ramsay the bull-headed handsome shy hero has his issues with women so it’s understandable about his apprehension with Katie. Ramsay manages to be a great swoon-worthy guy. That sure it is easy to fall for him from the get go. Katie the stubborn feisty heroine does have her irritating moments being almost a little flighty and foolhardy despite her intelligence. Of course being around Ramsay kind of wasn’t easy for her either. Still Katie despite her faults is forgivable. The author knows how to not only write a good story but keep it engrossing until the very last page!
