Time travel, hot Scot, steamy romance - everything in one book!

I didn't know what to expect going into this book, but the entire story was a delightful departure from typical romances. Ramsay is stuck in the modern world when he meets Katie, but their adventures take them back to his original time and their romance is set amid the influences and decisions that straddle both worlds.

The writing was exceptional, the characters and settings were vibrant and enchanting, and the emotional impact drove the story to a legendary HEA. It was a terrific book, and I highly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

An archaeologist with a zest for life finds herself stranded in small-town North Carolina—with a brooding Highland hunk who’s straight out of ancient Scotland.

Archaeologist Katie Jenson is on a six-month sabbatical from her job at Princeton University. Following the death of her beloved father—whose dying request was for Katie to live life to the fullest—she’s headed to a friend’s beach house in North Carolina. But a momentary distraction takes her off the road and on the journey of her life . . . with a sex god in a kilt at her side

Ramsay MacDara wishes the goddesses had left his arse back in the tenth century. That way he never would have met the gold digger who made a fool out of him.
Transplanted from his home in the highlands in the tenth century Ramsay would be happier if he could return to his own time.

This is the third book in this time travel series. I have read all three and they just keep getting better. This book is an interesting twist on Time Travel Romance and even if you missed books 1 & 2 you wouldn't be lost because each one reads well as a standalone.
This is a not to be missed series if you like hunky highlanders, a great deal of magic and unexpected romance thrown in for good measure.
The characters fit the bill in this book set in the mountains of North Carolina. A very fitting venue for a transplanted family of tenth century highlanders.
I gave this book 5 of 5 stars for storyline and character development. If I could I would give this one 5.75 stars because it is better than the other in this series I gave 5 stars.
I received a complmentary ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

It has been a LONG time since I have read a time travel book and this is my favorite kind that includes Druid shenanigans. Maeve Greyson is a new author to me and I plan to check out the first two books in this series now. I liked the framework of the Highlanders coming forward in time and setting up shop in this century. The pace of the story moves along at a fairly fast clip which I found agreeable because I wanted to know what was going to happen next and was staying up too late to find out! I liked that there were a few elements that surprised me and felt the internal dialogue and banter was funny making me chuckle several times. I would recommend to time travel fans.

What's not to like about a highlander time traveling to modern day? Not a lot but this one can go back to the tenth century when deemed by the gods and take you with him! Ramsey MacDara just wants to be left in his century but it is not to be at the moment. In North Carolina with his family until he can get back, he comes upon a car wreck with Archaeologist Katie Jenson in the car.
Then it begins! Prepare to be taken on a unexpected journey that is really a lot of fun with the dialogue and quips by Katie. Listening to Ramsey and his thoughts was really entertaining. The back story of the goddesses and why Ramsey was sent to modern times and met with Katie are an inspired premise. As the two find that attraction, all bets are off. Yes, please send me with a highlander like Ramsey back to Scotland!! Great story!

Katie's Highlander is a solid time travel romance- 3.5 stars. I liked the characters and enjoyed the overall concept of the series. I did want a little more action but I loved the characters' romance. Although this is the third book in the series, the author did a good job of bringing the reader up to date. I was never confused. I plan to read the previous stories in the series. Thanks Random House Publishing Group- Loveswept and NetGalley for the ARC of this title.

This is truly one of my favorite series by this author of the MacDara Clan who were magically whisked from the tenth century Scottish Highlands to current day North Carolina where Goddesses reigned and had tasked the family to preserve and safeguard a relic which kept humanity on an even keel. Most of the family had adjusted to the new modern world and circumstances. Only Ramsey MacDara wasn’t too thrilled and wished he were back in the old world having had a bad relationship with a “golddigger” whom he had almost married.

Archaeologist Katie Jenson happened to be traveling through North Carolina when her car went off the road and lo and behold a kilted sex god happened by to help pull her out of her wrecked car, carrying a spear, and riding a horse. Try as she might to dissuade him, Ramsay was not going to leave her so he brought her back to his family’s Highland Theme Park home. However the archaeologist in Kate couldn’t get the sight of his spear out of her mind knowing it was an impressive piece of historical significance.

*** Well as the story progressed with a wee bit of help from some family members who recognized Katie to be the chosen mate by the goddesses for Ramsay, they set off on a supposed picnic to get to know one another when Katie chose to veer from the path they were supposed to take and they found themselves hurled back into tenth century Scotland!

Being back made Ramsay pretty happy, convincing Katie that this was real and not a staged re-enactment of Medieval Scotland and they were stuck there until the ‘goddesses’ decided to bring them back was not so easy. And that was also something that Katie was not prepared to or wanted to do. Leave behind modern conveniences, plumbing and coffee - phew! This was not going to be easy for Ramsay to convince Katie that his love for her could conquer all her fears.

Bottom line, this was just a marvelous and wholly entertaining story for this series which has been so very intriguing from the very first! Highly recommended!

I have enjoyed this series, and this novel was wonderful and funny just as the other books were in this series. I don't think a person reading would have to read the whole series to understand, but who'd want to miss any of it that came before this one? The characters were fun and full of energy.

I just couldn’t get through this book. I tried really hard to want to read it, but I just couldn’t do it. It wasn’t a bad book per se, just not what I expected. To me it was really far fetched. And as much as I did read, I really didn’t like either of the main characters. I only finished 46%.

Katie`s Highlander, Ramsey, is quite the man as all the MacDara men are. He is soured on love since he was duped by a false love (in a previous book) until he meets Katie. They get off on the wrong foot, but soon their mutual attraction takes over. I love Maeve Greyson`s storylines. They are always filled with intrigue, danger, romance, a little fantasy, and of course brawny Scots. This is book three in her Highland Protectors series. Although I would have enjoyed the book more if there was not so much profanity coming out of Katie`s mouth. It adds nothing to the story and for me is a real turnoff. Fortunately Katie`s potty mouth tended to be absent the last third of the book. That part of the book was very good, profanity unnecessary! Hopefully the next heroine ( for Ross I would think) will have cleaner language.

Katie's Highlander (Highlander Protector, #3) by Maeve Greyson ... I love this series...they just keep getting better and better... Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview and review this book. Time travel-romance at its best. Ramsey MacDara (Protector ...from the 10th century) Katie Jenson (Archaeologist ) After he saves her from her car...they are drawn together and do some traveling.... I love a book that makes me feel part of it as this one did....some sadness, lots of laughs, adventure and lots of steamy sex all leading to a very HEA....I can't wait for the next book.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read Wonderful characters Entertaining Happily Ever After Informative Funny Steamy Page-turner Romantic Action-packed

Book three, Katie's Highlander, of the Highlander Protector series, is Katie and Ramsay's story. I have read the first two books, but they are not required reading to enjoy Katie's Highlander!

Katie is travelling through North Carolina enroute to visit friends when she crashes her car. Ramsay finds her, helps remove her from the car, and takes her to his family's house. He is immediately taken with Katie and her straight forward, no b.s. ways. His history with women is tainted so he doesn't quite trust what he is feeling. Katie is an archaeologist and equally attracted to Ramsay and his relics, but not sure if he's for real.

Maeve Grayson takes us on a time travel adventure finding true love. Both of these two give each other hot and cold vibes. I was glad to see them finally give in and just feel! I loved Ramsay and all his witty comments in his head! Such a funny man! The star of the show was the book's ending! The journey was entertaining and kept me intrigued, but the ending was the piece de resistance! It was so heartfelt and endearing it gave me goosebumps!

I highly recommend Katie's Highlander and the entire Highlander Protector series! Each book is such a delightful and captivating read!

Katie Jensen is smart, funny, and an archaeologist. Her father and nanny always were looking for answers. Her father taught her to pick her self up and to carry on. Ramsay MacDara is a protector. He tends to the animals and believes he will lead a solitary life. He has made peace with that but the Goddesses have another thing in mind. Katie crashed into his life and nothing has been the same. She charges ahead and leads with her heart. Ramsay is having a hard time keeping up. Know this, she has crawled into his heart from the very first time he sees her. There are things she is guessing about his family home and relics. She has no idea what is to come. First she is handfasting with Ramsay. Next they are told to stay on the path. Following directions is not Katie's strong suit. She is transported back in time and in shock. From the moment she arrives in that time, she wants to go back. Ramsay has found the place where he belongs. Will love lead them back to the future or will they stay? Love that Orkney Island was mentioned in this book.

I really enjoyed this time travel romance. Ramsay is such an awesome character, though very stubborn though he thought Katie was. Loved the interaction between the two. I loved the descriptions of everything it was awesome. Made me see it through the eyes of the characters.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Katie's Highlander is the third book (as of the date of this review) of a 3 part series. Katie is an archaeologist on her way to meet friends, and is unfortunately in a car accident in North Carolina. To her luck, Ramsay MacDara is riding by (yes, on a horse) and is able to rescue her and insists on her staying at his family home until she is able to get back on the road. Ramsay is your typical brooding male, who hates being in the current century, and really misses being back in Scotland during the time before he and his family traveled forward in time. Through a series of events that are a bit shocking and happen quickly, Ramsay and Katie are sent back in time where they learn more about each other, and about themselves individually and as a couple.

So far, this book is definitely the best of the series and I would give it a 3.5. There is a bit of shock, some suspense, points where you really empathized with Katie and Ramsay, hot and steamy moments, and I didn't have to force myself through the book. Like with the other books in this series, the storyline is certainly interesting, however unlike the first two it seems that the author has gotten better with her writing style or gotten a better editor *shrug*. I still probably would never think to do a re-read of this book or series, but I certainly noticed improvement in this book.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Loved this story. It is very well written and keeps your attention. The time travel storyline was not what I was expecting but I loved it. To go back to the year 917 with the majority of the story being in that time made it different from the other two books in this series. There is a HEA but a lot happens first. The ending was somewhat of a surprise but it makes a beautiful love for Katie and Ramsay. This was a wonderful story and I would highly recommend it along with the other two books in this series which I have read. You will not be disappointed.

Synopsis
The third book in the Highlander Protector series by Maeve Greyson, we meet Katie Jenson in the wreckage of her beloved sports car, dangling upside down from the sun roof. Who better to save a damsel in distress but a devilishly attractive stranger with a deep Scottish brogue and carrying an actual spear like a warrior of old. Meet Ramsey MacDara, a Highlander Protector of the ancient Heartstone, an ancient relic that holds all of humanity's drive to evolve, to hope, to thrive and survive. Ramsey's family had been plucked straight from the past by the very goddesses they serve. While Katie senses a deep attraction between them, wrecking her car was not on her itinerary for her trip to meet up with her friends. But alas, she seems to be stuck, and soon becomes swept up in a mystic rite that lands her and Ramsey back in tenth century Scotland. And married nonetheless!

My Thoughts
If I had to describe the relationship between Katie and Ramsey with a single word it would be raw. Primal. Intense. Although, I guess I could use those same words to describe the Highlander himself. I could not put this down! This is actually the first book that I've read in the Highlander Protector series, and while I did find myself just a little confused in the beginning (I mean I had no idea what the Heartstone was and just in all trying to wrap my head around the time travel bit), I was absolutely in love with this tale and the relationship. While the romance was a big part of this (I mean, hello, this is a romance novel), the romance aspect tied heavily with the actions to move the story line forward.

Katie Jenson is definitely ranked up there with my favorite heroines. Witty, strong, and downright hilarious, I loved her! I have read one or two other time travel romances before, but Katie was the first one to show that without 21st century conveniences, we really would be fish out of water. I mean, it's not often that we read exactly how periods........sorry........courses were taken care of back in the day but that was her first concern upon finding her ass dumped in tenth century Scotland.

Would I Recommend This?
Katie's well-timed puns aside, and beyond Ramsey's rough scottish brogue that made my neck tingle just thinking of it, I was moved by this book. That last chapter (why is it always the last chapter) created such a strong emotional response, I had tears blurring my vision even as I wrapped up this love story. And if a book is that epic that it makes me cry, I have to recommend it.

3.5 stars

I was stoked when I saw that there was the 3rd book in the Highlander Protector series. I wasn’t sure who the next was going to be about. I had a 50/50 chance of it being either Ramsay or Ross. When I read the blurb, I had a mini-freakout because it was Ramsay. I loved Ramsay in Joanna’s Highlander. I couldn’t wait to read the book.

While I did like Katie’s Highlander, I thought that it fell short in several areas. The plotline didn’t seem as well developed as the previous books. The characters didn’t seem as vibrant.

There were things that I did like about the book. I thought that Katie was a perfect heroine. I loved Ramsay. And while I thought the plotlines weren’t as developed as the previous books, I did like reading them.

Kate was a hoot in this book. I loved that she owned her geekiness. That she knew her self worth. She was raised to value herself above everything else. It was an amazing message to read. More people, women especially, need to know that. I liked how real she was. Except for the driving while looking at the constellations. That wasn’t real. That was kinda stupid. But, in hindsight, she wouldn’t have met Ramsay.

I loved Ramsay in this book. He had been hurt by his ex-fiancee. He didn’t want to like Katie. Heck, he didn’t want to fall in love with her. I did think that he was a bit stubborn at times in the book. When he realized that he was in love with Katie, he was willing to let her go so she could be happy.

There is Instalove in this book. Katie and Ramsay meet and fall in love within 2 days. I do wish that there was more time for them to get to know each other. 2 days didn’t cut it with me.

I wasn’t expecting Katie and Ramsay to go back in time. It was a nice twist in the plot and gave the book that added “ummph” that was needed. I liked seeing Katie’s reactions to being in Medieval Scotland. She was out of her element and wanted to go home. I didn’t blame her.

The other twist in the plotline was not expected. It didn’t add anything to the plotline because Ramsay was so accepting of what happened. That made me to “WTH“. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop with it. Like something bad happening to Katie. So, I wasn’t expecting it when it ended the way it did. It was another “WTH” situation.

I did like the sex scenes but I didn’t love them. I was a little skeeved about the period sex. I also didn’t appreciate the scene where Ramsay was cleaning himself off after sex. We all know guys do it but reading about it. No thank you.

The end of Katie’s Highlander was bittersweet. I loved that Katie made the right choice. I also like how Ross and Esme put Adam in his place.

I gave Katie’s Highlander an Adult rating. There are sex and sexual situations. There is language. There is violence. There are triggers. They would be the death of a parent and child abuse. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread Katie’s Highlander. I would also recommend this book to family and friends.

This book is part of a series but I liked how it can be read as a stand alone. The author did a great job of explaining the background. Katie and Ramsay are so adorable!!! I loved how the story started out and continue to flow nicely. There did not feel like there were any slow parts. I enjoyed this book so much I would like to go back and read the beginning books in the series.

The third book in the Highland Protector series, this book was my first by author Maeve Grayson. Her unique blend of time travel into the tenth century from our current times creates an exciting setting.
Here's a summary provided by Random House Loveswept:
An archaeologist with a zest for life finds herself stranded in small-town North Carolina—with a brooding Highland hunk who’s straight out of ancient Scotland.

Ramsay MacDara wishes the goddesses had left his arse back in the tenth century. That way he never would have met the gold digger who made a fool out of him. A loner at heart, Ramsay is riding his beloved horse through the woods near his family’s North Carolina theme park, Highland Life and Legends, when he hears tires squealing—followed by a thud—and rushes to the scene to help. That’s when he sets his eyes on a pair of long legs sticking out of the moon roof of a car. His interest piqued, the rest of her will soon arouse his greatest desires . . . and deepest fears.

Archaeologist Katie Jenson is on a six-month sabbatical from her job at Princeton University. Following the death of her beloved father—whose dying request was for Katie to live life to the fullest—she’s headed to a friend’s beach house in North Carolina. But a momentary distraction takes her off the road and on the journey of her life . . . with a sex god in a kilt at her side. Ramsay’s passion is the stuff of legend—and it just may be Katie’s most significant discovery.

I truly enjoyed Ramsay and Katie as individuals and as a couple. Their brief encounter leads to a quick wedding before the two of them really know one another. The author is fabulous at creating sexual tension and the book has more "heat" than I care for, but the storyline is fascinating. There is much description of both the current day setting and the tenth-century setting, but I find the latter to be what I liked reading about the most. Historical fiction is my favorite genre because I love learning about times past. Maeve's obviously researched the era thoroughly.
