The author is traveling along the same path as the John Wesley Powell expedition of 1869. He takes you through parts of the Green River, Canyonlands, Lake Powell, Dinosaur National Park, to name a few before ending up at the Grand Canyon. Now when I was in my teens, I hiked part of these trails and went down the Colorado River over 50 miles in a canoe also canoed on a lake, so this book was right up my ally.
The author telling of his story through words and pictures is amazing and brought me back to those times and back to a few years ago when I went back to the Green River and Canyonlands. If you have never seen either one of those places you can without a canoe.
The author also gives you instructions and guides in how to put in for permits, maps, shuttles, guides, rental equipment, and other items you may need. If you are thinking about canoeing or rafting you may want to find someone local first to get your feet wet if you have never done it for there are some things you do need to learn before you go out. We trained for months before we went down the Colorado River and I was glad we did. This was a very good book and brought a lot of great memories.
