We Told Six Lies is a young adult thriller by Victoria Scott. Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to review. Molly is a little wild and out there. Cobain is a loner who loves her. When Molly goes missing of course the boyfriend is the first suspect. Did he do it? The entire book is written from both points of view and switched from Then to Now to tell the story. The 2 narrators and 2 points of view does a good job of lending confusion to what the truth is as to what has happened to Molly. A nice twist also makes the conclusion a good one. I don’t love some of thr character names….seems a too many that were trying to be trendy, and there were way more than 6 lies to make this story but overall a decent read. #netgalley, #wetoldsixlies #victoriascott

I gonna start by saying this just wasn’t a book for me, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad book. I actually think it had a lot of things going for it. We picked up not long after the ‘disappearance’ of Molly. Police are trying to figure out what happen and all clues are leading more and more towards her running away rather than being kidnapped even though her boyfriend Cobain believed she was taken so deeply. He does his best to help the police but his details aren’t the best only giving the police snippets of the full story. This story is actually a very intriguing mystery so if that is your vine you should give it a try.

What I had troubles with was connecting with either of the pov characters. They just seemed so withdrawn which I get was part of the idea given the situation they had found their selves in, but nevertheless I needed something that would really connect me to them and I just never found it. Also there seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between Molly and Cobain in their relationship leading up to her disappearance that was just another thing I’m not a fan of.

3.5 rounded up, I really enjoyed this story but the writing wasn't the best. I found a few grammatical errors while reading this book.

One thing I really liked about this book was the flashback chapters. I found it very interesting that the past was wrote in the POV of the main character talking to his girlfriend.

I did find the ending to be a little bit rushed and confusing. I had to reread a few paragraphs to understand what was actually going on. I feel like if this book when through one more draft it could have made it up to a five-star.

We Told Six Lies is a YA Mystery Thriller with the Insta Love Trope where he falls in love first. The story begins with Cobain telling of how he met Molly after she disappears. The story is told in multiple time lines as well as multiple POV’s. As the story progresses, we learn just how untrustworthy the narrator is, making the mystery more difficult to unravel. Victoria Scott kept me captivated through every minute, shocking me at every turn.

Another mystery, another unreliable narrator. When the first twist came (long into the story) it surprised me. Then the second one came. Again, nice twist. And then they kept coming, kept coming, kept coming and I’d had enough. I think a good mystery uses twists sparingly and at the right time. When you throw a bunch in at the end of the book it discounts them and makes for some eye-rolling.

While I had some problems with the main character I have to admit I did enjoy this thriller. It was definitely page turning and kept my attention with plenty of twists and turns. The writing and story telling are both great

I thought I'd love this book but the characters seemed undeveloped for me and also the writing style... I just didn't connect. Repetitive.

I did not like this book that much. The story felt a bit unbelievable to me and the characters were way too blah.

This book had me thinking I knew what was going on the whole time only to be surprised left and right! Loved the suspense and the guessing game throughout. Can’t wait to read more by this author!

The story starts with Molly being missing and her boyfriend Cobain is the primary suspect. The book jumps around between Then-the start of the relationship between Cobain and Molly as if told to Molly by Cobain, Now- while Cobain tries to deal with Molly being missing and his desire to find her, and then Molly-who is dealing with her kidnapper in the present.

The book is narrated predominantly by Cobain, a super interesting (and kinda compelling in my opinion) guy that has a lot of issues, the least of being his lack of confidence, his anger, his obsession with dark images and ideas... Basically, Cobain is like the loner kid who everyone else avoids with no friends and Molly is this manic pixy dream girl who everyone loves and she uses her power to get what she wants. It really seems like they have a toxic relationship with Cobain obsessive over everything pertaining to Molly and Molly is this manipulative free spirit who comes and goes, using and discarding (I didn't like her, in case my tone was not apparent). I think Cobain struggles with telling the difference between love and obsession (which is problematic) and he is an unreliable narrator, adding a level of uncertainty to everything.

We Told Six Lies very much had a similar feel to the book Jane Anonymous, but with a more malicious undertone to the story (if at all possible when talking about the kidnapping of a teen girl). This is also very much the study of a toxic relationship and the dark side of love- with the real gritty details that I would never recommend for a young YA reader (aka sex, manipulation, suicidal ideation). Keep in mind this is a very dark story in general, don't go into this expecting any sort of HEA or happiness at all really (and I think that Cobain was the biggest victim).

Nope. Can't do it. I was already kind of on the fence about this one, because nothing was really grabbing my interest, and then we get to:

..."we found your mom. She wore a red robe, and it draped open to show her long legs. I wish I could have stopped myself from looking, but I couldn't. She oozed flesh and sex."

Not happening. And then I flip the page and find out that the main character only knows where his maybe-girlfriend is because he followed her home. No thanks. Do not want to read about it.

I skimmed a bit near the ending, and it looks like this has some interesting twists, but I really don't want to take the time to get there.

It's been a busy week for me. I have been trying to get back into the swing of things and force myself to get into a good schedule (sometimes getting up early is hard). But one thing I have been doing in the mornings when I get up is spending a little time with an audio book. I love audio books but I find listening to an audio book in the morning when I am getting up early, just helps to get me awake and moving. I can take my phone around the house with me as I am preparing for the day and still hear my book perfectly and by the time I am ready for the day, I have listened to between 20 minutes to an hour of the book! Recently, I was browsing Hoopla (I am using this app a ton lately, like even more than I was in the past) looking for an audio book to listen to for the following morning. I had just finished the audio book I was listening to and wanted something new (and perhaps mystery or thrillerish). That is when I found the audio book for We Told Six Lies!

Molly has gone missing. Molly and her boyfriend Cobain were planning to run away together but then Molly broke up with Cobain (and told basically everyone but maybe not Cobain). Then Molly goes missing! Of course, the police call Cobain in for questioning and he is super helpful, even providing them a list of people to look at who might have taken or hurt Molly. But could Cobain be the one who took her? Molly and Cobain have a complicated relationship and things went bad right before she went missing. As the police search for Molly, Cobain begins his own search, hoping she is still alive.


Listening to the audio book was amazing. The book switched between perspectives and times (we had a lot of now and then). It was super nice to have a narrator helping me to keep track of these timelines and I honestly think if I had just read the physical book things might have been a little confusing. I never saw/ guessed the ending for this book (I will not give away the twist but its a pretty good one)! Cobain was definitely an unreliable narrator but this was established early on making it easier for me as the reader to second guess things (and even suspect certain things and then be like wait that was totally not possible)! I really enjoyed my time with this book each morning and I look forward to picking up a new audio book soon!

This was an interesting read with a really big twist. I liked the characters of the book and thought they were very well developed and real. The story flowed well. It was told from more than one view point but was easy to follow. It was a short read, but I enjoyed it.

This was a typical young adult thriller with the usual tropes. I enjoyed Molly as a character but some of the things she said throughout the book began to get tiresome and repetitive. I still preferred her chapters to those of Cobain.

I really enjoyed Violet Grenade from Victoria Scott so when I saw she was writing another book, I knew I had to read it. I really enjoy mystery/thriller books and that, combined with Victoria Scott's writing (which I really enjoyed) made this book a really great reading experience for me!

A very good and gripping novel. Kept me on edge and was an intense page turner. I do love books with a good conclusion and this was nothing but. A must recommend with thriller enthusiats.

Did not finish. I tried really hard to get into this book but it just wasn't for me. I found the characters to be uninteresting.
