Sadly I have moved on from this little series of retellings. I read this one and it was just okay to me. These were really great books and I'm sad I no longer connect with them but I definitely have some younger people to recommend them to.

I love fairy tale retellings and this one was very enjoyable. I love that this series puts a twist on the Disney versions and gives a new way of looking at the stories. Snow White is not really one of my favorite fair tales but the story is still enjoyable.

"What if the Evil Queen poisoned the prince?" This tagline had me intrigued, but it's also the reason I felt "meh" about it. My personal issue is not with this book in particular, but with retellings that promise an exciting twist but don't deliver. In this case, the prince is not poisoned until we are 93% in. Where is the story I was promised?! Obviously, this isn't the author's fault. She didn't write the cover copy, most likely. But why would you market the book as this kind of story if it's not really about that?! It's just one thing that happens toward the end of the book and quickly gets resolved.

Mirror, Mirror wasn't terribly written, and I wouldn't go as far to call it boring, but it wasn't anything exciting. Much of what happens is already shared in the synopsis. I think if I were to recommend it to anyone, it would be to younger readers who love fairytales.

Calonita's twisted take on Snow White turns the mild-mannered princess into an outspoken revolutionary, lending depth to a character who often seems shallow.

Mirror, Mirror by Jen Calonita is a re-telling of the classic tale of Snow White. It is a quick and fun read with dual POV. A great addition to the Twisted Tales series.

SO MUCH FUN! I am really starting to enjoy retellings more and more. I love that they are becoming more accepted. I was eager to read this take as I love Jen Calonita's other books. She is a truly gifted writer.

Unreadable copy so I cannot say if I recommend this book or not. I gave it only 3 stars because I truly have no opinion.

I loved this book! I have loved the story of Snow White ever since I was little and have always liked playing around with the "what-ifs" of fairy tales. This retelling took things in a new and fresh perspective. It goes deeper into the story of Snow White and kept my attention the whole time.

If you love Disney and Disney retellings, you are sure to like this book.

This book and the story itself was good, and satisfying. I’m not a huge fan of Snow White or the Evil Queen, but that did not stop me from liking this book! It was an okay read overall, but considering the fact that Snow White and the Evil Queen were already pretty one-dimensional characters to begin with, I think this book did a good job of adding to their story.

However, I think this is definitely geared more towards Disney fans. I would not have read it if I didn’t already love Disney.

There were some scenes, especially in the beginning, that were slow for me. Other than that, if you know what kind of Disney retelling this is, and you liked the previous books in this series, Mirror Mirror should not let you down.

I will need to wait to read this because my arc copy is nearly unreadable. It's too broken up and the are weird images scattered throughout. I look forward to reading it though, as I loved the other Twisted Tales books.

Update: This sucked. I'll save you time. It's literally Snow White, but the prince eats the apple 20 pages from the end instead of the girl. Oh, and the Queen has some contrived explanation for her evilness to I guess empower her as a character? Whatever, it sucked. I skimmed the last fifty pages because I couldn't be bothered.

I have been absolutely obsessed with the Twisted Tales series since it started, and this one was no exception. A great retelling of one of the most iconic animated films of all time.

I am OBSESSED with Disney books and retellings and mash ups. This book was exactly what I was hoping for. I love getting to know the villain more and see how they ended up the way they did. I'm REALLY REALLY REAAAAAAALLY hoping for a Yzma POV at some point. *hint hint*

I loved this book so much I read it three times already! I am a Disney fanatic so anything that deals with any of the stories/Disney are a must read for me. If you love fairy tales and different versions of those tales then these books are definitely for you. The writing was superb and keeps this reader interested!

Mirror, Mirror was good. I realize that’s not a particularly ground-breaking review. But it’s honestly how I feel about it. I wasn’t wow-ed and didn’t find the book to be life changing. But I enjoyed it. The book is exactly what it is advertised to be and well-done at that.

The story, like the rest of the twisted tales series, is a spin (or twist) on the original story. In this case, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. The cover of the book announces the central theme, “What if the Evil Queen poisoned the prince?” It it told through altering viewpoints of Snow White and the Evil Queen. I was a little worried about the time jumps and point of view changes at first, but it worked well for the story and was a great way to give the reader a comprehensive understanding of events.

My favorite character and storyline is the development and evolution of Ingrid, the Evil Queen. She really stole the show in this book. Her story was much more enjoyable than Snow White.

If you know the story of Snow White, then you know what to expect in this retell of the fairy tale, There are a few tweaks to the original Disney tale that some are calling a modern twist, but it didn’t go far enough for me. I know I am in the minority as most people loved the book. I expected more. If you are calling this series “A Twisted Tale” then I want some real twists. If not twists, then explore the characters so that they have depth and range. There are so many ways this could have gone, but it really is almost exactly like the original.

I found the character of Snow White to be as bland as every other version where she is sunshine personified, never has a bad thought, birds flock to her and is so sickly sweet, I can’t stand it. Really!!! We are still dealing with this trope? You are left alone, not allowed to speak to anyone for years and nothing?? The Evil Queen is still evil, but why? This was a missed opportunity. There is some background that sort of explains her path to the castle but I felt it could have gone much further into the psyche of why she became The Evil Queen. Having the prince bite the apple wasn’t enough of a twist for because it came right at the end and it didn’t reshape the story in any way. The prince was still charming and rescued Snow and Snow was still Snow.

I did read that someone said this was for middle grade children. I went in thinking this was a YA novel. Maybe I expected too much. This is also a Disney novel and this story does mostly follow the movie version of the fairy tale. I’m not sure how much Disney is going to flip it on its head. Still, I had hoped for more.

Mirror Mirror was actually a bit of a chore to finish. What should have been an easy to read tale scenes to drag on endlessly. The big twist boasted about really didnt affect the story whatsoever. The subsequent twist was not a favorable one. And while the plot was different from the animated movie it mirrored(no pun intended) the plot of the Wonderful World of Disney film Snow White: Fairest of Them All. And there was endless backstory on Ingrid but I still dont feel she was fleshed out well. And of course Snow is still a kind princess who cooks and cleans and has no real substance.

My students and I have enjoyed this series so far, but this one is the weakest out of the ones I read. I do not know if it was the change of author (though I enjoyed Reflection) or if it's the fact that I have never been especially partial to Snow White, but this book--excellent as it is at retelling the story--left me wanting more. Nevertheless, I bought a copy for my classroom library and am waiting to see what my students will think about it.

Received a free copy of this arc via NetGalley for an honest review. Truely enjoyed this retelling, I loved that it was a more detailed view into such a great classic fairytale. It often felt like the "true" version of the story. My only complaint was it didn't draw me in as much as I would have liked but probably because I have seen Snow White so many times that it is a story I know so well. Now I need to go and get all the others to read and add to my collection as well.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I personally wouldn’t classify it as a twisted tale, but more of a back story on Snow White. It filled in a lot of gaps that were not answered in the original story. However, I felt the “twists” were minimal. Snow White’s character was very strong and independent, more so than I would imagine for a woman at the time this story was originally written, so perhaps that is part of the twist as well? Seemed more of a modern day feminist character. I haven’t read any of the others in this series for comparison but my daughter has and enjoyed a few.
