Great horror book. The cover alone is what drew me in but the story was fantastic and I finished it is two days! Have already recommended to two of my coworkers!

I thought the book had potential. The beginning had me, but somewhere along the line it lost my attention. I wanted to be scared, frightened, like most of the reviewers said they were. It felt more like a mystery than a thriller, and it just seemed slow at times. I didn’t feel very involved. 3 stars.

I find this author to be hit or miss for me, I'm afraid.... I realize I'm in the minority here and will keep plugging through their releases so as to not miss a hit. Thanks for the opportunity to review this!

Creepy and well written. Had me hooked from the beginning. One of my favorites of 2019. I would recommend this to so many different readers. I loved the deeper element of the story dealing with relationships and family.

The Whisper Man had so much potential when I read the synopsis. I was beyond excited to get a review copy of this that I cracked it open the first chance I got.

The beginning started out super strong and by the time I got to the middle of the book it had completely fizzled for me. I never like force reading a book because it’s never going to be what I want it to be. I don’t want to force feed myself a story that I’m just not jiving with and this was that for me.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and Netgalley for the gifted review copy. All opinions are my own.

An excelled story about a serial killer that stalks young boys. Both eerie and chilling, this story shows the sometimes difficult relationships between fathers and sons. A thriller that not only keeps you on the edge of your seat but also shows a parents’ love is learned by their children. Excellent character development.

*Happy exhale* Ya know what, gang? I needed that. I haven't had a book that actually kinda creep me out in a while and I love me some spooky books! Only regret is I wish I had read it closer to Halloween season 😂

Okay. Let's unpack. There's two main stories really going on here - one following a cops case and one a newly widowed father raising his slightly peculiar son. Now, most of the time I dislike stories featuring cops or private investigators just because I'm usually not interested in the grunt work setting as much as just a regular person figuring things out - I guess because it's more relatable but this te it didn't bother me. I liked the characters. I even liked the son and I usually can't stand kids in stories.

It had a strong creepy vibe (and children rhyming. Nothing scarier) and it carries for most of the book. I wouldn't say it's very scary or anything but I felt a little iffy reading it alone late at night.

Definitely would recommend and excited to see what comes from this author.

If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken . . .

Single dad Tom Kennedy is trying to start over. After his wife died suddenly of a heart attack, Tom wanted to move himself and his son Jake away to a new place. Jake helped him pick out the new house from the photos, and Tom is hoping that the new school will help. But something isn’t quite right. Jake struggles at his new school and starts talking to “invisible friends.” And Tom catches a strange man skulking around the house and trying to break into his garage. Tom starts having nightmares and hears the house making strange noises.

But the police don’t take him seriously until he figures out what it is in the garage that’s s valuable.

Detective Pete Willis never completely recovered from the case of a young boy who went missing decades before. Now there is another one missing, and Detective Amanda Beck is on the new case. But clues are thin, and as the days tick by, she fears that her chances of finding the boy alive are receding. Their paths cross with that of Tom and Jake, and pieces of the puzzle fall into place.

The past mixes with the present. Reality mixes with dreams. There are butterflies, children’s rhymes, a man in jail with answers who refuses to help. All the pieces are there, but can the police put them together in time to protect the next little boy from The Whisper Man? Or will it be too late?

Alex North’s The Whisper Man is a complex tale of terrible crimes, mixed with family secrets, haunted by ghosts, and rich in redemption. We all tell kids that monsters don’t exist, but they do. And sometimes, those monsters come after us. Part thriller, part spooky story perfect for a campfire, The Whisper Man is a beautifully written story of the monsters among us and the heroes willing to take them on.

I tried to read this book and struggled, but once I started the audio book, I was hooked. It helped that one of my favorite British dramatic actors, Christopher Eccleston, narrates it to perfection. The Whisper Man is spooky, brilliant, powerful, moody, thrilling, and genius. If you don’t mind a book that might keep you up at night, The Whisper Man is a must-read.

Egalleys for The Whisper Man were provided by Celadon Books through NetGalley, with many thanks, but I bought the audio book myself, thanks to Audible.

Definitely lives up to all the hype! Great psychological thriller with the gore. Throughout the book you are questioning if the serial killer called The Whisper Man was actually caught and in jail or is actually still on the loose or had an accomplice. You also question if Jake is just traumatized after losing his mom or if he is actually seeing ghosts or if he is actually the target of the Whisper Man or his accomplice. There were also some great examples of men showing emotional vulnerability and rebuilding their lives and relationships after tragedy. I give this 5 stars.

I was given a free advanced copy of this book from NetGalley for review consideration.

I loved everything about The Whisper Man. It is one of the best thriller books I have read in a while. I look forward to reading more books from Alex North.

I'm not sure what the hype is for the book, but its not for me. I don't like detective storylines, and this book was extremely boring. There was also way too many storylines in this book.

Having recently finished “The Whisper Man” by Alex North, I am happy to have had the chance for the preview; thank you NetGalley and Celadon Books!

Although this was an excellent chilling and thrilling book, the story between fathers and sons surprised me as well. Following along with those emotional moments of "The Whisper Man" were favorite parts of this story for me. Fathers who love their sons... and fathers who don't.

The Whisper Man by Alex North is an excellent blend of thrill and mystery. I always imagine mysteries as puzzle pieces and thrillers as the foreboding sense of impending doom in written form. This book has both of those things.

In the past, Detective Willis solved a case of murders of five young boys. The murderer once nicknamed "The Whisper Man" had been taken off the streets. Or had he? Now, another boy has gone missing and it follows the same pattern as the Whisper Man.

I love how this book reads like putting together a puzzle, but yet still surprises when the whole picture is shown.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for this honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I did figure it out well before the ending, but I so much appreciateded Alex North's construction of the story that it wasn't a disappointment to figure it out. The creepiness factor was definitely there without being over the top. This was the first book I had read by this author but it will not be the last.

Synopsis: In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and son caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.

After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.

But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed "The Whisper Man," for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.

Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter's crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.

And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window...

Review: If you like Hannibal Lector then you’ll like this! I got so many Hannibal vibes from this! It was great overall. The characters were well developed, the plot was so interesting and unique from start to finish. The writing was amazing and I loved the underlying message, that our every action has ripples that we might not realize until it spirals into a whirlpool or hurricane.

My only issue is that sometimes the pacing was too slow for my taste, but overall it was a great novel!

Verdict: If you like thrillers this is your man!
