Adorable! Perfect for children who can't get enough of the graphic novel format. I really liked the art style too.

Captain Barbosa and the Pirate Hat Chase
By Jorge Gonzalez
Graphic Universe

Captain Barbosa is one of those pirates who eschews the normal surly pirate crew for an elephant and an alligator to help him out on board instead. He trusts these two animals enough to actually take a nap and leave them on watch. But one day when a seagull swoops down and steals the Captain’s pirate hat, a cross-ocean chase ensues to get it back.

Argentinean illustrator Jorge Gonzalez utilizes his lovely pencil work to depict a calm, wordless comic book chase that will amuse kids. With soft edges on his figures, and expert body language to fill out his silent character’s personalities, this isn’t a work packed with narrative, or even twists and turns, but rather an elegant exploration of sweet absurdity, where kind-heartedness and understanding supersede all other pressing matters in a pirate’s life. Charming!

A truly great wordless picture book tells a complete complex story without any words,, ideally one that we can both understand and connect with emotionally. And Gonzalez has achieved that aim here. We have charming characters with a simple aim" retrieve the captain's hat. That aim is frustrated by a series of increasingly silly complications finally resolving in a sweet satisfying resolution. The illustration style is a little rough but conveys the action and a full range of emotions in a charming manner.

Captain Barbosa has his hat taken and he and his shipmates task it down. The illustrations are simple are engaging, but the book itself is somewhat odd. I like the idea of a WordPress graphic novel, but...

This was a cute, wordless, children's graphic novel that tells the story of Captain Barbosa and his three trusty crew-animals: a mosquito, a crocodile, and an elephant. (Being wordless, the story does leave a lot to interpretation - for instance, the animals are sometimes shown to be a bit see-through leading me to believe they might be his imaginary friends? Although he does use their solidness for plot points sometimes too, so...) Anyhoo, a seagull comes and snatches Captain Barbosa's hat right off his head, so our intrepid adventurers go on a quest to get it back! Along the way, they battle rough seas and befriend sea monsters, but I loved the twist at the end though ;-)

This might be a good one-on-one story for kids who enjoy pirate hi jinks. This would be a difficult book for storytime with there are no words.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book with no words is not a book I would typically pick. The illustrations are adorable. I love how the story unfolds throughout the book.

A wordless graphic novel about Captain Barbosa the pirate. This book would be a great first graphic novel for many kids especially those who love pirates.

Very sweet wordless, graphic novel. The images say it all - amazing.

All I can say is I want more stories of Captain Barbosa and his crew!

This graphic novel is adorably illustrated, and with an unlikely group of friends( a mosquito, a crocodile and an elephant), Captain Barbosa is trying to recover his stolen, pirate’s hat!
This is not the type of children’s book I usually look for, but it was very entertaining. I loved this story and would look for more adventures with Captain Barbosa and his crew.
My review will be featured on my blog November 8th, 2018

There are many things that can describe this wordless graphic novel, but can be summed up with Ah!
The comic illustrations are perfect, the story wonderful, and the only problem is that I want more! I am dying to see more adventures of Captain Barbosa and his crew.
