'Swashbucklers: The Saga Continues' by Marc Guggenheim and Andrea Mutti is a graphic novel continuation of a series that was long thought to have ended. Or had it?

Based on a series from the 1980s that I vaguely remember, the premise is pirates in space. The crew of the Starshadow was blown to complete bits the last time we saw them, but in comics, unlike life, these things are rarely permanent. The ship does not survive as well as a few of the crew. And now, the very enemy that blew them up needs their help to save Earth.

I remember the original series, but not fondly enough to want a reboot. The story reads fast enough and reminds me of that somewhat forgettable series I read long ago.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, Dynamite Entertainment, and NetGalley. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Dropping into the middle of a series is always disconcerting, but since this is the resumption of an older title, the authors provide plenty of information to bring the reader up to speed. Raader, the captain of the Starshadow and part of her crew died when a planet blew up under them. So why is she still alive and drifting in space? And when she and a crewman are rescued, they commandeer the ship to go to the last know sighting of the Starshadow where more of the crew are found on the remains of the Starshadow. After being hailed as heroes, Raader and crew is drafter to oppose an enemy that has returned. But then she finds the actual destination is on Earth where her family is. Plenty of action accompany some oddly drawn characters

A sequel to the Epic Comics Swords of the Swashbucklers series by Bill Mantlo and Jackson Guice from the 80's. There are a LOT of references to the original series so you might want to read the series Dynamite reprinted earlier in the year first. The series is about an alternate dimension where space pirates go around marauding the Colonizers ships. A young girl from Earth gets brought into said dimension and joins the crew of the Starshadow. This book picks up immediately after the Colonizers have been overthrown when a new threat arises. The remnants of the Starshadows crew reforms to stop this new menace. It's not the most original series, but hey when there's space pirates, what else do you really need?
