I went into reading this not sure if I was really in the mood to read a romance book and ended up emerging a few hours later after being completely captivated by the story of William and Emmy!

This is such a sweet charming story that moves at a relatively quick pace, I’m not always a fan of the sort of instant-love plot lines but I felt like this one was able to work quite well as although it was a bit of a love at first sight sort of story, the characters did then communicate for quite a while before losing touch and finding each other again. I also loved that there was a chapter with there letters detailing the time that was passing as well as of course what was going on in their lives at the time. I did get a tad confused with the timeline at points as it did move quite fast but it didn’t take to much to figure out again. This was a book that I had guessed most of what would happen before it did but still I found it to be a really enjoyable, feel-good read.

Rating: 4.5/5

Would I read again: Yes

Would I Recommend: Yes

Would I read another book from this author: Yes

A nice little read, but not as fun and engaging as a lot of the books like this about. Lacked the chemistry and engagement I’m used to in these books, was still a nice read but seemed to lack a bit of magic

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

Belinda Missen writes funny, heartwarming and uplifting contemporary novels that once you start reading, you simply will not be able to put down and she is on top form with An Impossible Thing Called Love, a zesty page-turner about missed opportunities, second chances and new beginnings.

It had been love at first sight for Emmy when she had clapped eyes on William, one freezing cold New Year’s Eve. Globe-trotting Emmy had immediately fallen for the handsome first aider and she had truly believed that their love would last forever. However, the rose-tinted spectacles had quickly come off and her hopes and dreams for a future together with William had been smashed to smithereens when, on her return to Australia, their long-distance romance met a sudden and unexpected end. Emmy’s letters to William went unanswered and all her emails were unread. Realizing that the man she thought of as her Prince Charming is a frog who has no interest in their relationship, Emmy decided to draw a line under the whole affair, pick herself up, dust herself off and start afresh in London. Emmy is looking forward to a fresh start in London, however, just when she is about to dive head first into her new life in walks William on her first day at work!

William is looking as gorgeous as ever and all the feelings which Emmy has tried so hard to suppress come rushing back with a vengeance. But why did William disappear for so long? What was his reason for turning his back on their relationship and what is he hiding from her? Will it be second time lucky for Emmy and William? Or should they simply consign their relationship to the past and move on with their lives?

An Impossible Thing Called Love is a fabulous read that is simply terrific! Heartwarming, funny, poignant and simply irresistible, An Impossible Thing Called Love is contemporary women’s fiction at its best. With characters you cannot help but love, hilarious moments that will make you laugh out loud and poignant and emotional romance, An Impossible Thing Called Love sparkles with warmth, heart and humour.

Belinda Missen keeps getting better and better with every book she writes and An Impossible Thing Called Love is a first-class read you simply should not miss.

Emmy is travelling from Australia and ends up in Scotland, where she gets assaulted and is treated by the gorgeous William, the chemistry is definitely there but Emmy is due to go back home..... can a long distance relationship last? At first the emails and letters are flying between them and then William suddenly stops writing without about explanation. Emmy is upset but moves on with Craig and eventually they both move to England to work but on the first day in her new job who walks in but William...... is the chemistry still there but why did he stop writing?

A lovely lighthearted book with good characters and a bit of mystery and twists to keep your interest

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are really likeable and I found myself rooting for the relationship to work.

The books starts with Emmy who is Australian spending her gap year travelling with friends. New Years Eve sees her in Edinburgh celebrating Hogmanay, where she ends up assaulted and being treated for her injuries by William. Instantly smitten with each other, she spends the rest of her time in Edinburgh with him. But reality hits when she has to return home, but they promise to keep in touch.

Months pass and like they promise, they keep in touch via letters, until William disappears and just like that Emmy’s dreams fade.

Years pass and she is offered a job back in the UK, now settled with Craig, surely her holiday infatuation with William is a thing of the past…?

The book also contains the first chapter of her next book A Recipe For Disaster.

What if you are on holiday and you meet someone just before you have to head home to the other side of the globe? Not a very good timing, I would say, but it's possible to keep in touch nowadays with all the technical gadgets we have and why not meet up again? You make plans and suddenly your soulmate does not respond anymore ...

But nothing just happens, so it must be Cupid watching over them?

This is a romantic story about love found, lost and maybe found again? It's full of funny conversations that made my day.

The book takes us from Scotland, to Australia, Paris and London to come full circle in Edinburgh.

It made you realise that you have to take a look at your own behaviour before you judge someone else. Maybe you are doing the exact same things that you can't stand an other person doing to you.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. 4 stars.

Thank you, Belinda Missen and RachelsRandomResources. Review copy courtesy of publisher/author.

Honestly I would say I could predict the plot while reading which means there arent enough plot twists or surprise factors to shock you but this is still a cool light hearted read so it is fine to read. But this is still a nice romance read dont get me wrong.

Writing Style
I quite enjoyed the way this one was written. There was a magical feel to it that made me wish I had the guts to up and move to London, like I wanted to for a while there.
As Emmy came across new locations she would marvel at the simplest of things. This really made me connect with her because I do this as well when I travel. The simplest of things grabs me attention and I just want to know more because it’s somewhere different and I want to know how it differs to what I’m used to.
Also, a holiday fling that actually wants to stay in contact just has a magical quality to it. The touches of that magic scattered throughout the story really kept me engaged throughout the whole book.
Initial Thoughts
Right at the very start of the story I thought we might have been in some ancient Viking town or city during a festival. That just shows how recently I’d read the blurb doesn’t it? Coz it was, in actual fact, set in Edenborough in like 2010 NYE.
One of the magical qualities of this book was the way Emmy and William hit it off as he helped her after receiving a punch in the face. They just seemed to have instant chemistry and it seemed a given they’d get together. Until they parted ways and didn’t exchange numbers or emails or anything.
When they kept running into each other I started to think maybe it would work out. But then it all seemed to fall apart. I felt really bad for Emmy at this point. I’ve lost a good friend when they stopped responding so I can empathise with how she would’ve been feeling. And it made me connect to her even more.
Final Thoughts
I really liked that the issues that pop up in real relationships was what made these ones difficult. Lack of communication, a feeling of getting left behind, not wanting to look like you can’t hack it. And even the desire to prevent someone else from ruining the relationship so not talking about that person.
If I hadn’t have read a tinsy bit of the acknowledgement (I normally skip these) I wouldn’t have realised that this is actually one in a series. So I will likely try and ferret out those books and add them to my every growing (it was already ridiculous) TBR pile.
Seriously, if someone could just pay me a decent salary to not work and just get through my TBR pile then maybe I will get them all read along with the rest of the series for those that I liked.

What a lovely story! This is a feel-good, cozy read for this super cold and wet winter. I can also see it appealing in the warmth and happiness of Spring and Summer. We follow 2 people through the years and some pretty amazing locations to the HEA. I loved the story and the characters. They are faced with some pretty realistic problems in their path to love. Great read! Now... to look for another from this author!

I loved the romance of this book. Emmy and William's story was impossibly romantic. A real fairytale. At least, it was at first. However, there was a lot of will-they-won't-they. A LOT. Just saying. be prepared to shout at this book on occassion. For as much as I enjoyed the first three-quarters of the book (hugely), by the time it got to the last quarter, I have to admit I was kind of over it. The last twist was one too many for my liking, and made me feel like the book could have happily ended somewhat earlier than it did.

One thing that really struck me was Emmy's strength. Her refusal to take any s**t. Emmy was kind of awesome. It made me realise I've read way too many weedy, pathetic MCs who can't cope without a man in their life. I want more characters like Emmy. Women who stick by their laurels and don't fall for a man's bull. I'll definitely give Missen's other books a read to see what her other characters are like.

I enjoyed this book, my first by this author. I enjoyed the characters, the dialogue, the descriptions, the overall plot and pacing.

What I didn't love? There was a section of the book that got confusing for me with regards to the timeline. Chapter 5 is New Year's Eve 2012 and chapter 6 is January 2014, and Emmy is reflecting on the discussion she and a friend had "weeks ago". Except that, in truth, this conversation took place a year ago. (I had to go back and sort through all the conflicting bits to be sure) and the chapter actually covers the events from the end of 2012, through 2013 and on through 2014. I have to say it was weird.

I didn't love William's attitude when Emmy shows back up in his life, and the huge secret that he kept. (They're both hurt but she handles it in a more mature way than he does.) And it seemed at times like drama was being added simply for drama's sake.

BUT these two were obviously meant to be together. They kept running into each other through Fate or Serendipity, and their friendship is really a wonderful thing.

I wish her move to England hadn't resulted in so much drama, but I was satisfied with the story's ending. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

An Impossible Thing Called Love by Belinda Missen is a charming novel about finding your soulmate, having life intervene, and ultimately getting a second chance at love.

Aussie Emmy is travelling in Edinburgh with her mates Heather and Josh, and by way of an unfortunate accident ends up in a first aid tent where she meets medic William. Sparks fly and the two arrange to spend an evening together, but the night ends all too quickly and Emmy must fly home to Australia. Emmy cannot stop thinkng about William as she returns home and refers to her chance encounter with him as "the best holiday souvenir ever." For months, emails and letters are exchanged, until they suddenly stop without any explanation. Eventually, Emmy moves on and begins a relationship with Craig, who has been a loyal friend throughout her correspondence with William.

Fast forward eighteen months when Emmy and Craig decide to move to England, when Emmy secures a job at a medical clinic where, lo and behold, William is the resident GP. Will old feelings be reignited when Emmy and Wiliam fnd each other again? Has absence made their hearts grow even fonder?

This is an enjoyable read, and I was thoroughly engaged with the characters throughout I enjoyed the international locales, which take the reader from the UK to Australia to Paris, and back again. I would recommend this as a perfect beach read.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for this copy.

An impossible thing called love has a very youthful, fun vibe paired nicely with adventurous characters.

this is cute as far as the story goes but the main character is kind of a jerk. There were a couple instances where I thought she just was plain selfish, which made it harder to like her. I love the second chance romance story.

I have a little confession to make- yes I know yet another one. It shames me to say it but prior to being invited to take part in the blog tour for ‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’ I had never come across Belinda Missen before. Sorry Belinda. After reading ‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’, I cannot believe that I haven’t come across her before. I absolutely loved reading ‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’ but more about that in a bit.
I couldn’t help but take to Emmy from the first moment we met her. She is traveling with friends and they end up in Edinburgh for Hogmanay, only the celebrations don’t get off to a good start when Emmy ends up in the First Aid Tent. This is where she meets William for the first time. To say sparks flew is an understatement- in fact there were that many sparks flying about that they should have had a fire extinguisher on stand by in case the First Aid tent burnt down. I couldn’t help but take to William either. Well for a start he has ginger hair so that’s one point in his favour. He just seems so kind, so gentle and he certainly makes me chuckle. His personality seems to be the mirror image of Emmy’s personality. I couldn’t help but feel disappointed at the fact that their romance seemed to have hit the buffers and I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would all work out well for the pair of them second time around.
‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’ has to be one of the funniest and sweetest books I have read so far this year. The author’s writing style is such that you can’t fail to be drawn into the story from the first word onwards and before you know it boom you are addicted to the book. That’s what happened to me anyway. I binge read this book over the course of a couple of days despite my attempts to ration how much I read at any one time. I was enjoying the storylines, the characters and the author’s writing style so much that I found it nigh on impossible to put the book down. The book came everywhere with me and I begrudged having to break off from reading. ‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’ is brilliantly written and I found that I was chuckling away to myself from when I first started reading the book and I didn’t stop chuckling away until the moment I got to the end of the book. The characters were very well described and it wasn’t long until I began to think of them as old friends and I couldn’t help but hope that everything worked out well for them in the end. This book had the perfect mix of seriousness, comedy and romance together with the odd dash of drama.
In short I loved reading ‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’ and I would definitely recommend it to other readers. I will definitely be getting my hands on copies of Belinda’s other books and I just know that I will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed ‘An Impossible Thing Called Love’. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

This book was mediocre for be at best. Unfortunately I just found that it wasn’t very memorable. The concept was really good, the execution, not so much.

A cracking read that I really came to love! This is a book that'll really please fans of Mhairi Mcfarlane as it's a love story that is so well rendered. A funny and sweet read.

This was a really sweet novel, it really was. There were moments which were terribly cute, but at the same time, as with most novels, moments when you wanted to smack the lead characters upside the head. And I have to admit, the protagonist, Emmy and I did not exactly...connect. I don't know, even though she's an Aussie and I am too, she and I just...I don't know. But she was still fun to read along with. William was a great male lead as well, perhaps not the most swoon-worthy to me at least, but still very likeable.
Look, overall, this was a fun novel to read. Is it going to be one of my favourite novels for ever and ever? Probably not. But, overall a great one to read on a rainy day with a big mug of tea or coffee (or hot chocolate).
Likeable characters, a sweet romance (with a bit of complicated history - I have to admit that I did skim reading all the letters....) and good writing makes for a satisfying read.
Congratulations to Belinda Missen and the publishing house!
Note: I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

ARC received for an honest review.

Not an original thought in this one. To be fair, it's chick lit - not romance. And chick lit is just an awful awful genre. When I requested the ARC (because I wanted something light and fluffy) it was listed as a romance. Had I known what it really was I wouldn't have asked for it.

So a chick meets a dude while she's on vacay. It's meaningful. We're supposed to be able to tell that based on their conversations. Which were strange and immature - apparently this means they're comfortable with one another and meant to be. Then they lose touch. Then they run into one another. Cue more stilted conversations. Add in evil significant others (this has to be my most hated plot device. The instant - instant - the H/h's significant other is a petty, snotty, immature, evil, backstabbing twat however the character stay with them "because" I know that I hate the book and hate the characters.)

The only reason it got 2 stars rather than one is because I like British/New Zealand/Australian writing.
